Lucy Letby guilty

BarelyLiterate · 18/08/2023 13:12

Lucy Letby has been convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

The scary part is she looks so bloody normal, just a couple of years younger than me, someone I could go out for drinks with. She looks happy in her photos... just how does this happen? How can people be this twisted? What was she getting out of it?

This! Just a lovely, wholesome looking young woman. Especially the festival / concert photo.

I really hope those families do get some kind of closure. I feel for the families where the jury felt unable to return a verdict. I have listened to the podcast on this and felt that some of the evidence may not have been strong enough for some of the babies.

It does just completely blow my mind as a normal human, how someone can do this to innocent little babies. It's not even as if she could use the excuse she was giving mercy to really sick babies. It was ones who were doing well that she chose to do this to.😔

I agree that some don't seem clear cut. Apparently not guilty on 2 counts and 6 are hung.

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 18/08/2023 13:48

As someone said earlier She looked so normal. I have been watching lots of true crime of late and when you look at most people who commit such acts of evil they are so normal, could be next door neighbours or family. I cannot get my head around most of it.

Anothernamechangeee · 18/08/2023 13:48

Just awful for those poor families

And she just looks so… normal.

Laiste · 18/08/2023 13:48

My thoughts and prayers to the poor families of the babies Flowers

I can't imagine how it must feel to have been betrayed like that by a person supposed to be caring for your precious child.

Re: this trend of not turning up for sentencing ... i think if they don't turn up a mandatory addition of 5 or 10 years should be added on to the sentence. Although if you're getting life or multiple life sentences then i guess that wouldn't make a difference to them.

Or just fucking hang them

TetherMetherPip · 18/08/2023 13:48

The relief the prosecution must feel after the jury had been put for over a month, they must have been seriously worrying it was going to go the other way, or be a hung jury.

Poor poor families were there are still no verdicts.

@DysonSpheres

Did you actually follow the court case? There is absolutely no doubt she is guilty.

One of the deaths was caused by injecting insulin into a feed, nobody on the ward was having insulin at the time. She admitted this must have been done intentionally but it wasn’t her?! So had to be one of two other nurses. She was the only nurse present at EVERY single one of the misterious and unexplainable deaths.

I followed the case live and I am a nurse so it may be clearer for me to see but there is absolutely no way she is not guilty. I strongly suspect she has Munchausen's by proxy because she seems to be able to separate what she has done with murder. I think she genuinely just wanted to be apart of a high adrenalin situation, gaining as much sympathy for her as possible (attention) and killing those poor babies was a means of gaining that. I don’t think she ‘feels’ she murdered them.

I’ve followed the case, listened to the podcast. I’m a midwife so understand a lot of the medical side of stuff plus ward set up. I do think she’s guilty but I did think she might be found not guilty due to lack of concrete evidence against her specifically.

yes the insulin shows an insulin overdose, likely to be murder rather than an error as they weren’t prescribed insulin so not a drug miscalculation.

yes, from what I’ve read she was the only nurse present at all of the cases in the trial (remember she hasn’t been found guilty for all the attempted murders). But I did read there were other babies who died who haven’t been included in the case. Some of which she may not have been present at. Yes, I get some of those were not thought to be murder……but it does raise the possible question of did they select cases to suit the narrative? 🤷‍♀️. I don’t know.

BarelyLiterate · 18/08/2023 13:49

Radio 5 Live have just broadcast an interview with one of the consultants who worked with Letby on the neonatal unit.
He talks about how he came to have serious concerns about her, how he took those concerns to his colleagues then to senior management. He then accuses management of refusing to act on the consultants’ concerns, of being reluctant to involve the police and effectively trying to cover it up.
It’s absolutely shocking to listen to. Started about 1:30 if you want to listen on BBC Sounds.

She should pay the ultimate price in return. Disgusting specimen of human.

whatdidshedotogetahillnamedafterher · 18/08/2023 13:51

Another Beverly Allitt...

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/08/2023 13:51

/I feel sorry for the jurors too. imagine having to sit through evidence of deaths of tiny little babies and consider whether someone would have harmed them deliberately.

Chilling.

Differentstarts · 18/08/2023 13:51

I hope she gets beaten every single day in prison

Chipsahoy · 18/08/2023 13:52

Those saying she looks and seems normal. What do you think nasty abusive people look like? They aren’t monsters. It’s why no one believes the victims because “oh she looked normal”
Abusers and murderers don’t look any different to anyone else.

HazelHair · 18/08/2023 13:52

Very tragic. There are no winners at all in this case.

I hope that the parents gain some closure from this verdict.

Paul2023 · 18/08/2023 13:52

Her parents went to court aswell. I’m not sure why though

Mojodojocasahaus · 18/08/2023 13:52

The daily Mail are going to town on her. So creepy how she kept “souvenirs” at home and stalked the families on Facebook

Think we need to spare a thought for the jury.. deliberated for 22 days. Must have been soul destroying

Seymour5 · 18/08/2023 13:54

viviscool · 18/08/2023 13:44

she'll probably end up in Rampton like Beverley Allitt

I think that’s quite likely.

Whattodo112222 · 18/08/2023 13:54

Her mum sobbed and sobbed and said it was wrong............

mateysmum · 18/08/2023 13:54

@BarelyLiterate Yes I heard that too. Seems the hospital management did everything they could to believe Letby was innocent. All the paediatricians voiced their suspicions and wanted the.police brought in but instead the doctors were made to formally apologise to Let you.and threatened with being reported to the GMC. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but seems there wad a.lot of arsenal covering and unwillingness to see what the doctors felt was staring them in the face.
I hope those people hang their heads in shame today

Boudicasbeard · 18/08/2023 13:55

It is such a horrifying case. I can’t imagine what those poor parents have gone through sitting in court and waiting for the outcome.

I don’t understand why no one acted on the concerns sooner.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 18/08/2023 13:55

Waterweir · 18/08/2023 13:54

The consultants tried so hard to get senior managers to suspend her. Two of them were made to apologise to her for their allegations.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66120934

The parents are going to sue the arse off the hospital. Obviously that won’t bring them back though

mateysmum · 18/08/2023 13:55

Bloody autocorrect Letby and arsenal covering
