That's it.
That's the thread.

Some of the stories on this thread (and others) are depressing.

100s of people come across the Channel each day and are put up in 4 star hotels for free, given 3 meals a day for free, access to healthcare for free, and just need to sit tight whilst that new estate going up down the road from you is ready for them. Yup, that'll be for free, too. You can come to the UK and be whoever you want to be. Don't worry about paying for anything.

Meanwhile back on Mumsnet, people share their experiences of how the CoL crisis is affecting them and the sheer joy for example of finding a £10 note on the floor.

Madness.

This comment reminded me of this.

The Government would LOVE us all to blame this shitshow on someone else, someone who has nothing. While they sit with their millions of ill-gotten gains, inheritance and money we pay them.

So fed up of having no money.

Pathetic. There is no need to hijack this thread with your Daily Mail nonsense.

exactly, there’s always one 🙄

perhaps get onto the clowns in charge to process applications quicker so there’s not this massive backlog and then let the refugees work. Many are highly qualified and eager to work but they’re not allowed.

@beguilingeyes

Presumably you've got no problem with the hundreds of thousands of people from Hong Kong and Ukraine that are coming here?

Not quite sure why Ukrainians can't be moved to the 95% of Ukraine that isn't a war zone, but as for HK, sure, bring it on!

Once 3 million highly skilled, highly educated Hong Kongers arrive and start going for jobs in media, legal, journalism etc, let's see how keen the chattering middle class mumsnetters really are on the idea of mass migration. Over-supply of East European labour in low wage jobs in low skilled sectors has only affected the grubby white working classes, so I shall look forward to grabbing the popcorn when half of HK come over and force them onto the dole queue!

Just the “white working class” are there no black or Asian working class affected?

"Just the “white working class” are there no black or Asian working class affected?"

That doesn't fit the narrative...similarly it's only the people from Hong Kong who are qualified...

Try AttaPoll - you can do surveys. It’s pennies most of the time but does add up. I’ve made £70+ some months and it’s really helpful. You can have it transferred to your PayPal account.

Get selling on ebay or vinted - again it can be a bit slow but it does all add up.

Also, make sure you’re getting everything you’re entitled too. This might be controversial but if you’re working - look and see if you’d be better off not working! I know it’s not ideal but then you could potentially look at retraining like a previous poster has suggested.

I’m fortunate that I’m not in your position just now but I have been there. Where I’ve walked nearly 4 miles each way to the supermarket with something like £12.80 to try and get as much food as I can. I may have accidentally not paid for some nappies hanging on the double pushchair a few times.

I really hope things get better for you ❤️

TheThingIsYeah · 01/09/2023 11:23

@Toomanylaughs

Absolutely Black and Asian WC are affected, but the Guardian doesn't tend to denigrate those groups when questions get raised about the insanity of the government enabling the people trafficking industry.

As I say, once the Hong Kongers start gunning for the skilled jobs then you'll see a mood shift amongst the middle classes alright.

OP - I hope your situation improves, but don't rely on the government - regardless of the colour rosette - to deliver that for you.
