No doubt the Conservatives will rattle on that the Lords/Lab have blocked the building of 100,000 homes.
But I seem to recall the predicted increase was spread out over a long period of time - only a small proportion of plots have not been developed due to the existing legislation on waterways.
And the proposed legislation switched the cost of the off set from house builders to tax payers. We would be paying for builders to make money.
3 Conservative peers voted against the legislation and 32 cross bench peers as well as Labour.
But it is very strange that only 151 Conservative peers voted in favour.
There are 7-800 peers overall. So where were the Conservative peers? We know they will turn up if they are pressured to do so.
So where was the Conservative whip?
Did they want to lose?
Was just this another opportunity to blame Labour for their failure to reach housebuilding targets?
Call me cynical but I don't think they ever wanted to win this vote.
