I think there is something in that. Back in the day, whenever there was a strike people on both sides got together in the traditional smoke-filled room and hammered out some sort of compromise. Both sides were reasonably realistic that that was going to have to happen.
Come Thatcher things started to change, and new legislation changed things a bit, but nevertheless until around 2010 - and possibly a bit later - there was still a more realistic approach to disputes. But the current lot seem to be stunned that the lower classes don't know their place, and think that the way to deal with strikes is to go off to the media giving soundbites about selfish teachers/nurses/doctors/railway workers etc, and are totally clueless when someone like Mick Lynch strikes back with the inconvenient facts.
