Tell Me...What songs do you want at your funeral?

I know, bit morbid.
Tell me your songs (and why if you want cos songs are personal).

Today in my car I heard the song by Train - Drops of Jupiter. I think the lead person Pat wrote it after his mum died. And I thought "ummm could be on my shortlist."

Reasons why asking; I love music, need some inspiration, I always wonder why particular songs chosen when I'm at funeral.
Annoyingly my health running down hill. Treatment for leukaemia is lurking to put me (hopefully) into remission.
I am catastrophising today and thinking what if it all goes crap.
So my focus is on music. I don't want my lovely family picking all the music- it will be horrific! (Light-hearted but honestly urgh).

The Laughing Gnome by David Bowie. It always makes me laugh. I want to go out on a high.

travailtotravel · 13/08/2023 12:57

Dont fear the reaper, blue oyster cult. And Freddie singing who wants to live forever. Maybe theme from local hero.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 13/08/2023 12:58

I want Good Riddance by Greenday too, it’s a shame about the name.

whatisnormalanyway101 · 13/08/2023 13:01

I was talking about this to someone last night. The song that first came to mind was Mary J Blige - No more drama 😂(I don’t know why as I have a pretty drama free life as it is).

My lovely uncle had 'Always look on the bright side of life' played as the curtains closed. Everyone sang with their arms round each other, crucifix style. He was a funny, lovely man and it was perfect. He planned it to perfection.

I would have Holiday in Spain by the Counting Crows

Sadmelon · 13/08/2023 13:09

Lucky Man by Verve.

Poshjock · 13/08/2023 13:10

DH wants Love of my life & Guide me home. Queen are his favorite band.

AuntieMarys · 13/08/2023 13:12

Not morbid at all...everyone should have a funeral plan! I'm having a direct cremation so no service...but if I was I'd have Sound of Silence by Disturbed

Plump82 · 13/08/2023 13:15

Lynyrd Skynyrd Free Bird.
I think the lyrics are just perfect.

NorthernChinchilla · 13/08/2023 13:20

Say a Little Prayer, Aretha Franklin.

moose62 · 13/08/2023 13:22

Bat out of hell as the curtains close. I am a huge Meatloaf fan and it would bring a smile to my children's faces.

SuffolkUnicorn · 13/08/2023 13:22

moonlight Sonata and broken needle by Marilyn Manson

Halo8 · 13/08/2023 13:28

Last Exit for the Lost, Fields of the Nephilim.
Ride On, AC/DC

I remember 12 year old me insisting that i wanted With you in your dreams by Hanson. I really hope my family have forgotten that 😆

Queen fan here too and i would like A kind of magic worked in the day somewhere.

To make em cry a bit?
Beat you there - Will Dempsey

I really really really want Mike's Song from Walk off the earth. Either for the 'photos/video' or played right at the end. I want it to end kind of positively with that message from me. I don't think my mum will do it though as she definitely thinks it has to be low sombre songs, i'll have to talk to my sisters.

Hold on to memories- Disrurbed, though I’d be annoyed to miss David Draiman’s sublime vocals

KezzabellaB · 13/08/2023 13:41

Watermark by Enya (love it) and Paradise by Coldplay - this is mainly because I strongly believe in the afterlife so it's where I think I'm going 😊
I did want Dancing on your Grave by Motorhead but DH thinks it's in bad taste 😂

gogomoto · 13/08/2023 13:50

Durufle's Requiem, live chamber orchestra perhaps Grin

And the hymn the day thou gavest

CurlyTandtheTangles · 13/08/2023 13:54
