I don't think I've EVER been bored

Really, never Confused

With access to the internet for 30 years now there's always books/articles - anything 🤷‍♀️ to read

Plus going out for walks, tv watching, playing games, dogs to cuddle

I just can't imagine ever being bored

I've never been bored either @LaurieFairyCake - and I do find the concept a bit puzzling. There is always something to "do" - even if stuck in a waiting room at A&E, people to watch, planning to be done, thoughts to think. I totally get what you're saying.

I think what we are talking about is different to the experience of dull patches or un engaging material in a work meeting. Yes I've had those, but I wouldn't have said I was bored, more annoyed at a perceived waste of time. Boeredom seems to imply, to me, passivity and not choosing to engage with anything. Now that my time is my own (retired) I have control over what I do and there's always something I can engage in.

Oh - and yes, some of us have been online for 30+yrs, pre WWW the internet was text based and definitely not boring! I had such fun in newsgroups and compuserve forums while at home with babies. Made real life friends who I met up with and am still in daily contact with, though now via FB. Social media is not new.

It's because you are amazing.

I suppose.

OP I have a brother like this. He is never bored. He doesn't always have much to do (which I find boring) but he doesn't get bored of doing nothing.
Nothing on TV, he will draw, doesn't feel like drawing, he will watch YouTube (which I find boring lol). He will watch the rain, he will 100 percent enjoy his own company and that of others. He is so laid back but all very enthusiastic about everything.

User13986509 · 12/08/2023 18:19

I find looking at peoples videos online very very boring so is not something I do but a lot do find enjoyment in watching them and spend a lot of time doing it

caerdydd12 · 12/08/2023 18:19

Being bored isn't synonymous with having nothing to do. The things you say fill your time would be boring to a lot of people, even while doing it.

PuttingDownRoots · 12/08/2023 18:22

For me... being bored is being trapped. Hence why traffic jams are frustrating. Spending the same time going for a walk, having the same daydream isn't boring.

letsdonextweek · 12/08/2023 18:23

Why are you telling us this?

Why do people have to give such arsey replies to an OP?

There's actually an interesting conversation to be had.

Can't wait.. 🍿

User13986509 · 12/08/2023 18:26

Often times like Christmas Day can be very boring as you are often in a situation that may not be your choice but you can't really just read a book or whatever

ImthatBoleyngirl · 12/08/2023 18:48

I have ADHD so I get bored by everything. Always chasing the dopamine 😂

Same!

Merapi · 12/08/2023 19:14

I find some things fantastically dull, but I'm rarely bored. My brain fills itself with things I'd rather be thinking about instead; that's how I while away the tedium.

Totally! Why are people so rude on here? Completely unnecessary.

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 12/08/2023 19:37

Good for you.

"We were never being boring"

Hmmm.

BatheInTheLight · 12/08/2023 19:41

I get BORED on all day, over the internet courses. BORED OUT OF MY MIND.

Apart from that, I don't ever feel bored.

I have ADHD so I get bored by everything. Always chasing the dopamine 😂

I have ADHD and cripples me in to going to bed at any time of day to shut my mind off.

I also have demand avoidance - so you can imagine the 2 fighting each other.

I'd love not to be bored, but can get overwhelmed at anything and have to face plant in bed.

There's many a thing I'd love to do. I just can't, therefore boredom is a trigger to sleep before I harm myself.

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 12/08/2023 19:44

I put a screwdriver bit in to a drill as was obsessing about hanging a door.

Drilllll.... Smoke.... Try to set screw straight... Severe burns... Oh, not bored any more 🤣

MyMachineAndMe · 12/08/2023 19:49

I don't think I have ever, ever felt as bored, lonely and isolated as I do at the moment, despite having a dh and dc.

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 12/08/2023 19:50

Saying that, many a time at school or in the workplace - bored now! This task was supposed to last an hour. Goodo. 25 mins in. Next!

I'm not cut out for people, especially gatherings with no control. They bore me 🤣 I took daughter to Canaries for Christmas... €10 2 sunbeds for the day. Bored now!
Poor girl 🤣

BendingSpoons · 12/08/2023 19:51

I'm jealous. I get easily bored, mainly by routine/monotony. I have a job I mostly like but parts of it bore me to tears. I once temped in a factory assembling parts. That was extremely tedious, made worse by having the same radio station on all day that had a fairly small play list.

Ohh that's sad to read.

I'd ask why, but I think you should start a new thread.

You'll get lots of support and space for a moan. Post in relationships maybe? Or mental health. All here to get you out of this fug.

Hopefully see you on another thread ❤️

"I can't imagine being bored as rectifying it is as simple as picking up a book."

Oh dear. It doesn't work like that.

Badbadbunny · 12/08/2023 19:57

I think the worst boredom I've suffered was in a job I used to have - I hated the job and did the bare minimum of work, not helped by there not actually being any work for me to do a lot of the time. I remember constantly looking at the clock counting down to finishing time many days.

Other than that, it's usually when waiting around for a bus, train, queuing for an attraction/event, etc., when it's just a matter of killing time.

I've never been bored at home - always something interesting to do, whether it's watch TV, listen to music, read a book, or more latterly, find things to read/watch on the internet, or do housework, gardening, washing the car, etc. If anything, there's too little time to do everything I want to do.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/08/2023 19:59

" there is always something to be done at home"

But those things are mainly boring!

Gwenhwyfar · 12/08/2023 20:06

JaninaDuszejko · 12/08/2023 17:22

Housework you can do things alongside to entertain you like listen to music/podcasts/radio. The worst boredom is when you have to pay attention to something because soneone you love is wittering on about it but you aren't actually interested in it Minecraft.

You can't listen to anything while hoovering.
And tidying up is really awful because you have to really think hard about where things go so you can't day dream or listen to the radio.
