We get these spiders where I work.

They are absolutely beautiful, Tube Web Spiders.

They are deep black, chunky, and get quite big.

They poke out their holes at night waiting for prey/food, check the Web again at night, if it is, you will see it poking out.

If it hasn't eaten or impregnated you by now I think you are safe. It could be a fairy nest, or a nest of fire lizards who will hatch and fly in one day and gaze into your eyes and be bonded to you forever (and can probably be trained to do housework). I would just leave them be.

😂😂😂 Thank you for cheering my day up!

With hyperbole such as:

”What the fuck made this bastard”

“it's absolutely HUGE”

and

”it's absolutely massive”

there is no way the poor creature living in it is gonna be left alone by the op, despite the fact it’s out side the house and not bothering the op at all.

🙄

I’d leave it alone but I would also be asking WTAF it was!
I would certainly get a bug person in to check it out, even if I wasn’t going to get it removed, just so I know what it is, what I am dealing with & also just incase the poor ‘bit so little’ bugger isn’t native to our country & could die as the weather turns.
I am just a lifer fan but we tolerate each-other & after 30+ yrs of work I can live with them, to a degree, & I can take them outdoors in something if they refuse to leave of their own accord… lol
We had a street Wolf Spider just before covid hit. This thing was MASSIVE - with legs it was bigger than the palm of your hand so think saucer from a tea cup size - & he kept going from one house to the other & back. We all kept chucking him out & he kept appearing then one day he was gone. The kids thought it was hilarious, is parents just dealt with him & I am assuming her was either predated or he found a home somewhere else.
We still chuckle about ‘The Mountain’, as we named him, now 😂

Neither my mother nor my older sisters /father!/ brother are scared of spiders.

If they are nearby get them to get up & have a look with a selfie stick so they can look from a distance of course.

Misspiggy1012 · 09/08/2023 12:08

If it's not bothering you please let it be. We kill off so much of nature and we rarely give a thought for what it's doing th help 🌎 it's probably catching bugs maybe small mice and rodents but it won't go inside as there's nothing for it to eat or drink inside the house. I.d leave it it looks like it's been there for a while and you haven't noticed it b4. So forget it and if it does become bothersome then deal with it by moving it to a nearby tree or something else like that but try not to kill it.

AlwaysJumping · 09/08/2023 15:03

@Ejismyf im also here for your picture!

dawngreen · 09/08/2023 16:36

My fella and me used to keep pet Tarantula's and snakes. Once gave a spider skin to a neighbours son, and he took it to school and scared all the staff. Then he threw it in his dads lap when he got home.

CosyCoffee · 07/08/2023 10:21

It saddens me how estranged from nature people have become.

If it's wispy and not papery it's a spider's web. It's not inside your house, it's outside, catching flies before they enter your house. It's just living its life. Please leave it.

^this, very sad that a swear word was used to describe something that is just nature, a sign of the times and not a good one.

Whataretalkingabout · 09/08/2023 18:16

It looks like a mud dauber's nest to me! A type of wasp ...

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 08/08/2023 16:31

@HideTheCroissants.. That extremely lucky if it was false widow and they got away with mild itch.

Why do you keep repeating this bollocks? The vast vast majority of people bitten by a false widow will get nothing more than a mild itch or mild pain.

Several people (@CeciNestPasUnPipi @BarchesterTowels @MustWeDoThis @Barbarolo @Museya15 @NeverDropYourMooncup) have now correctly identified the spider web as Segestria florentina / green-fanged tube web spider. iNaturalist also identifies the new photo as that. I thought the purpose of this thread was to do as the title suggest, and identify what made it, but it appears not... The purpose is indeed to bullshit.

Fellow spider appreciators, here are some cute green fangs to appreciate 🥰

(@Tilep wolf spiders don't make webs but instead hunt - like wolves, no?)

Yes there was! Sorry.

We have a similar looking nest above a door frame at work and it turns out that it’s a green fanged tube web spider. https://srs.britishspiders.org.uk/portal.php/p/Green-fanged+Tube+Web+Spider
We don’t bother it and it doesn’t bother us as they will bite if you aggravate them! 🕷️🕷️

That's exactly what we've seen on our back wall! Shocked me at first but they actually haven't bothered us at all. We just to leave them alone and let them carry on with their business 😬

SwishSwishBisch · 10/08/2023 14:03

ooh that green fanged guy is pretty cool looking!
I think you’ll be safe @WhatcreaturemaderthishHellWEB , sounds like they’re spider introverts! Just hide out in their tunnels all day & only pop out at night to catch dinner. I highly doubt you’re ever going to have any sort of run in with it, and it’ll keep bugs out of your bedroom!

BarchesterTowels · 10/08/2023 14:56

Honeyroar · 10/08/2023 08:34

Yes there was! Sorry.

Pretty sure that's a wasps' nest, @Honeyroar

dawngreen · 10/08/2023 16:24

And don't be scared when they moult either

Moonshine160 · 10/08/2023 17:13

@Honeyroar most definitely a wasps nest

WhatcreaturemaderthishHellWEB · 10/08/2023 22:50

@dawngreen
What do you mean... Don't be scared when they moult?
My mouse and bird catching bedroom pet??

Me too, CosyCoffee - how anyone could think that's a bird's nest ...! Grin

it's a spider's nest or web of some sort, some species of spider will make a sort of funnel or tunnel. They're not interested in catching YOU, OP, they want insects.

But why do you even mind? It's high up, not bothering you, OUTSIDE. Just let it be.

Notanother1 · 13/08/2023 00:09

Have you found out what it is yet?

LizzyA123 · 13/08/2023 10:52

check out https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/spider-webs.html

quite a few UK spiders make similar webs, including some house spiders which can grow huge judging by the ones appearing in my bathroom around now, I address them as “Sir” or “your ladyship” as I relocate them to a shed outside. 😂

Spider webs: not just for Halloween

Explore seven common styles of spider web and discover the arachnids that make them.
