Has anybody ever brought one of the pickled eggs from the big jar in the Chipshop? I honestly have never known anybody to.

No 😄

calmcoco · 06/08/2023 18:00

I have not, but had bf who did.

Sadless · 06/08/2023 18:00

No never and never seen anyone ask for one either.

No, but I used to get one from the jar that sat on the counter at the pub if I felt peckish after a few pints.

ForeverYellow · 06/08/2023 18:03

Yes 😀

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 06/08/2023 18:04

Yes. Me and ds love them! I got bought a jar one Christmas as a present! 😋

AccidentallyFabulous · 06/08/2023 18:04

My brother once won a pickled egg eating competition. In a pub rather than a chip shop, but same massive jar scenario.

By the end he was swallowing them whole. We know this because they were still whole when he vomited them back up.

None of this makes me likely to purchase a pickled egg, in any form, from any establishment, ever.

ohtowinthelottery · 06/08/2023 18:07

Yes. DH and DS used to request one frequently from the chippie near my parent's house. We even bought DS a whole jar of them for Christmas once (not his main present!)

About 50 years ago when I was vegetarian I used to have pickled egg and chips.

That's so impressive and disgusting 😂

What do they taste like? Vinegary egg?

Yep, pretty much! Delicious!

RustyBear · 06/08/2023 18:11

DH usually gets one when we go to the chip shop. I avoid him for the rest of the evening…

shadowchancesassy · 06/08/2023 18:11

Yes but not for a long time. You've made me fancy one now and a big gherkin 🥺

pictoosh · 06/08/2023 18:12

YEP, every time I get a chippy. Love them.

TheDogsMother · 06/08/2023 18:13

There was a guy that went to my local pub years ago. When they rang last orders he ordered three pickled eggs and three pints of stout. He also got through them in time for closing. I was always very grateful I didn't live with him 🤣

Bluelightbaby · 06/08/2023 18:14

My crew mate literally bought one yesterday !

GallbladderWoes · 06/08/2023 18:19

Yes, purely out of curiosity but it was nice!

coreas · 06/08/2023 18:20

DD gets them and a portion of chips any time we have a chippy tea. I think they are vile but I'm not a fan of vinegary things.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 06/08/2023 18:21

Yes - I also sometimes buy a jar of supermarket pickled eggs. They taste as you'd expect - egg and vinegar.

CheersToMe · 06/08/2023 18:22

I'd be concerned at how long the jar had been sitting there, given I've never seen anyone order one! How long do they keep once opened? The jars are enormous!

There was a tradition in our pub that you bought one, crushed up a bag of salt and vinegar crisps, rolled the egg in that and then ate it.

I never did it but served many people who did!

Vates · 06/08/2023 18:23

Not the eggs but my local chippy used to do big gherkins that I loved to buy!

DirtyDuvet · 06/08/2023 18:27
