Has anybody ever brought one of the pickled eggs from the big jar in the Chipshop? I honestly have never known anybody to.

I tried my first and last one about 20yrs ago on my now-DH's family local. They do the salt and vinegar crisp there too.
I love pickles and I REALLY love eggs.
I was surprised just how utterly disgusting a pickled egg actually was!

BarbieKew · 06/08/2023 18:45

Yes, always, I love them! It annoys me when chip shops don’t do them, it’s not like they will go off. I pickle them myself now as it’s cheaper than buying one each time.

OatcakeCravings · 06/08/2023 18:47

Yep, and I buy the jars from the supermarket and have them with things like fish cakes.

SisterAgatha · 06/08/2023 18:47

I worked in a chipshop as a teenager and can confirm that in one year, I served about 4 eggs.

TwigTheWonderKid · 06/08/2023 18:47

Yes, of course! They are incredibly yummy!

Samsonsmum · 06/08/2023 18:49

Yes. Yum

Blanketpolicy · 06/08/2023 18:52

I'm mid 50s and never tried one or known anyone who has.

I love picked beetroot, but the taste of pickled onions makes me vom.

Is the pickled egg vinegar very...... eggy? Make me think of a IACGMOOH bushtucker challange.

Bleuuuughhh · 06/08/2023 18:52

Love ‘em.

DrCoconut · 06/08/2023 18:52

Yes. It was foul.

JuneOsborne · 06/08/2023 18:52

Yes. Love them!

ThreeRingCircus · 06/08/2023 18:53

I love vinegar and I really like eggs but pickled eggs are disgusting 🤣. I used to work in a chippie at university and we sold on average one a week.

HarrietofFire · 06/08/2023 18:54

Yes! Absolutely gorgeous.

AllPlayedOut · 06/08/2023 18:54

Once as a child because I wanted to know what they tasted like. I shouldn't have bothered because they're utterly revolting.

My brother once won a pickled egg eating competition. In a pub rather than a chip shop, but same massive jar scenario.

By the end he was swallowing them whole. We know this because they were still whole when he vomited them back up.

None of this makes me likely to purchase a pickled egg, in any form, from any establishment, ever.

🤦🏻‍♀️😂😂😂

BrutusMcDogface · 06/08/2023 18:56

Surprisingly, I’ve never been tempted although I adore anything pickled like gherkins, onions, beetroot, cabbage, cauliflower etc. I also like eggs. Just can’t bring myself to try a pickled egg!

NerrSnerr · 06/08/2023 19:00

Yes. I always get a pickled egg with chips. Once when I was a drunk student a person working in a chip shop gave me a full jar. Cannot remember why.

MendedDrum · 06/08/2023 19:06

No, but I've often wondered the same thing. One day I'll buy one just to try. I'm also morbidly curious about pizza crunch...

LuciferRising · 06/08/2023 19:08

I love pickled eggs. We so make soy eggs.

Sold to the same person each week, right?

All four sold to the same person, or someone different each time?

Roselilly36 · 06/08/2023 19:19

DH loves them!

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 06/08/2023 19:19

DB does. He has a serious addiction to anything pickled…birthday presents generally involve a catering size jar of onions and of eggs.

He famously once received a catering hat of both on Christmas Day and had finished them by Jan 2nd

AtleastitsnotMonday · 06/08/2023 19:24

I guess they must sell a few because they always seem to be on the menu but they most be one of the least popular options.

BonjourCrisette · 06/08/2023 19:25

Yes, I love them! I alternate massive gherkin and pickled egg with my fish and chips. Delicious.

HorribleNecktie · 06/08/2023 19:27

I was convinced they were just for decoration!
