How long before your Dad's started their periods after first signs of puberty?

DD9 has just (I think!) Started early puberty, ABIT grumpier, more easily upset, a bit sweaty etc.
How long did it take for your girls to start period? I'm fairly sure my periods started about 6-9 months after me getting stinky pits and pubic hair??

But I was 11 when I started the first signs, not 9!

So true! 🤣🤣

I think it’s meant to be about 2 years. That seems about right from what I remember of my puberty, but I don’t really remember details. I wouldn’t necessarily expect your daughter to start her periods soon, but changes might happen faster and children are starting younger these days.

lavenderlou · 05/08/2023 17:16

My DD is 13 and has needed deodorant for about 3 years but hasn't started her periods yet.

AmilyChestnut · 05/08/2023 17:17

My daughter started going through changes about a year and a half before starting her period. She started her period shortly before turning 12. Once she started year 7 she seemed to shoot up and turn into a woman over a period of weeks!

My Daughter not Dad started her period a couple of weeks after the first signs of puberty. It was a bit of a shock to us because she's only 7.

BettySundaes · 05/08/2023 17:19

Dad approx 70 years
DD 3 years - nothing yet for either of them

MissSmiley · 05/08/2023 17:20

I'm going to ignore the dad reference ... I think it's usually about 2 years after breast buds appear

Tweeps · 05/08/2023 17:21

9 is within the normal age range for the onset of puberty. Dd also began puberty at 9 and started her period 2 years later.

DD1 not long after initial signs: started at 10, other DD at least 2 years after first signs, started at 12.

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 05/08/2023 17:22

Dd started showing signs of puberty at 8 and had her first 3 periods, 6 weeks apart at ten. She then had another period at 11 then was regular at 12. Fingers crossed your dd gets a decent break too before her next period. 9 is so young bless her.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 05/08/2023 17:22

I think my dad must be keeping his periods quiet because he's never mentioned them but my dd started about 12 months after growing a few hairs and from getting breast buds.

Lauram82 · 05/08/2023 17:23

How longs a piece of string? My now 12 year old was just horrible to be around for about 9 months and then literally grew boobs overnight and started her periods really quickly afterwards (she was 10). My now 11 yr old is clearly sprouting but has been on a slow burner so it’s been a good few months of very slow growth boob wise and no signs of a period yet. I have everything she will need when they do start and we’ve had a good chat about what to expect and how to use everything etc too. My 9 year old is grumpy as hell at the minute so obviously getting those first surges as she’s typically really easy going and pleasant but I don’t expect anything other than a grumpy bum for a while. My eldest took me by surprise and I wasn’t prepared but I’m glad I’ve had chance to have a good chat with #2 dd ahead of things happening and as time goes on I’ll do the same with #3 and #4 dds.
I was 12 when I started and I expected similar timings for my girls but clearly it happens when it happens.

Have you taken her to a doctor? A friend's DD had precocious puberty at a similar age and they were able to give her medication to stall it until a more appropriate age.

My dads always been an aggy bastard so I think he has a constant period tbh

Ohhelpicantthinkofaname · 05/08/2023 17:36

Dads 65, don’t think he’s started his periods, but happy to check.

though on all seriousness, they both started needing to use deodorant in about y4 at school. Dd1 started her periods at 12 in y7 and dd2 aged 11 in y6. Stinky pits, then boobs, then moods and then periods. I think that was the order.
