How long before your Dad's started their periods after first signs of puberty?

DD9 has just (I think!) Started early puberty, ABIT grumpier, more easily upset, a bit sweaty etc.
How long did it take for your girls to start period? I'm fairly sure my periods started about 6-9 months after me getting stinky pits and pubic hair??

But I was 11 when I started the first signs, not 9!

Around two years is about right I think. I noticed signs in year 4 and periods started during the summer holidays between years 5 and 6.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 05/08/2023 20:06

Ps my dad is so moody sometimes I wonder if he will in fact get a period 😂😂🤔

TheHennaHairedHarridan · 05/08/2023 20:09

Following with interest, I have a 10 year old dd and no signs yet.

My dad is 76 and I am not entirely sure he knows what a period is 🤣

(please don't remove the typo in the thread title, it's too funny)

@5FootMama
It was 6-9 months for me as well. Started puberty right around when I turned 12 in the spring, first period in autumn the same year, around October as I recall. It seemed to correspond with putting on weight as I was stuck at just under 22kg for quite some time but got up to 28-29kg ahead of a growth spurt and that’s when puberty kicked in.

Member968405 · 05/08/2023 20:39

I read in a textbook ‘2.5 years from first pubic hair to first period’ and that seems about right in my life experience

BashfulClam · 05/08/2023 20:55

Around 3 years for me. I remember hair just appearing when I was 10. Me and my ex used to laugh about the ‘pube fairy’ you go to bed one night all innocent and childlike and wake up the next morning with a rug between your legs.

I actually remember the exact moment I got my period, I was in a local shop that I hated and only went into very infrequently. It was early summer and I had my school skirt on with bare kegs. I then felt that weird dribbling sensation you get with your period, went home and visited the loo, pulled my pants back up and ran back out in shock.

I don't know how to define "first signs of puberty". I'm not closely inspecting DD's body like that.

More tangible to me, a lot of girls seem to have a big growth spurt (in height) just before they start periods. So I'd look for the height growth spurt more than anything else.

7 ?! Someone said 7.

thatsn0tmyname · 05/08/2023 21:42

I remember being told that periods start about two years after the first signs of vaginal discharge. Check when you do her washing. I've spoken to my 9 year old about this. When her discharge turns pinky, periods are imminent.

Weloveflowerss · 05/08/2023 21:43

These comments 🤣🤣🤣

Is there any truth in puberty starting if over a certain weight? Dd has just turned 9, weighs under 4 stone and in 7-8 size clothes. Her brother all started puberty young at around 11. I'm a bit worried for dd as she has ASD and very immature.

orangeclubsarebest · 05/08/2023 21:44

Years! Started going through it at about 10. Only just had her first period at 13.5.

HedgehogB · 05/08/2023 21:46

I started my periods before any other signs - no pubes and no boobs at all. Age 11. My mum was very surprised.

Sleepybear1234 · 05/08/2023 21:47

About two years from stinky armpits in year 5 and moodiness to period starting in year 7 x

thaegumathteth · 05/08/2023 21:52

Dd has had under arm hair since she was 9 and is almost 13 and hasn't started her periods.

TootenCarMoon · 05/08/2023 21:53

@Persipan You win comment of the day, I can’t stop sniggering to myself 😂

Mumof2bears · 05/08/2023 21:53

DD was 10.5 when she had her first period, despite no breast buds or hair growth, but with a slight widening of hips and thighs. It was very light, but there was definitely enough blood for me to be certain. That was 3 months ago and she hasn't had another one since then, though I've made her aware that at this stage its quite normal for them to be irregular. She did try to argue otherwise, until I pointed out that I had more than 25 years experience of menstruation versus her 0 years! Happily we'd had a good chat about it a few months previously and she's been quite happy to ask questions etc.

OttilieBottilie · 05/08/2023 21:56

Eldest daughter can't remember when she started to show signs so is suspect it was 11ish, period started at 13.

Poor DD2 had hair at 8, smelled etc. Periods started midway through y6 when she was 11.

Third daughter is 12. Is just starting to show signs of puberty, nothing yet.

CheerfulYank · 05/08/2023 21:56

My DD is 10 and I’ve kind of wondered. No hair or BO but God she’s in a MOOD most of the time lately 🤦‍♀️

I hope it holds off honestly. I was 13 when I got mine and I hope she makes it that far. It’s natural and all that but still a pain to deal with.

My dad is almost 63 probably past all that by now 🤣

TeenMum87 · 05/08/2023 21:59

🤣🤣

TeenMum87 · 05/08/2023 22:00

My DD was 13 and we had absolutely no sign other than a tummy ache the day before.

LightSpeeds · 05/08/2023 22:08

Persipan · 05/08/2023 17:14

He's 73 at this point and still no sign of it...

😂😂

MrsRandom123 · 05/08/2023 22:11

A couple of years she started developing at 9 snd periods at 11. She’s now 13 my height with hips, boobs & bum and looks a lot older than most of her friends some of whom haven’t started their period yet.

my younger daughter is now 9 very tall & very skinny & no signs & i think she’ll be very different to her sister.

i started my period at 11 & had bras in p7 & mucb bigger boobs (used to get teased for it) than most of my class when i started high school

WunWun · 05/08/2023 22:13

My (skinny, restrictive eating) DD had full on BO at 8 and couldn't go without deodorant and had hair at 9. She's now nearly 12, has needed a bra rather than a crop top for a year and there is still no sign of periods.

Changeling78 · 05/08/2023 22:16

Now, my DD started her periods at 9, but hadn’t shown any signs of puberty. They all came later.
