How long before your Dad's started their periods after first signs of puberty?

DD9 has just (I think!) Started early puberty, ABIT grumpier, more easily upset, a bit sweaty etc.
How long did it take for your girls to start period? I'm fairly sure my periods started about 6-9 months after me getting stinky pits and pubic hair??

But I was 11 when I started the first signs, not 9!

I'd say two years. DD started symptoms around 9 and I was terrified this was so early. She is 11 and started last night.

They say it's happening much earlier now, the poor girls.

My Dd started developing breast buds at 6
she is now 8 with breast development and pubic hair
she has had blood tests, ultrasound and bone growth X-ray which all say age 11
The Endocrinologist said periods will start within the next year
They have not offered puberty blockers as they said the downsides to them outweigh the positive effect
if she was 3 or 4 then she would have been offered them
But omg the hormones are something else the tantrums are awful
she knows what’s happening but she is only 8 and she is finding it hard
we we’re told puberty is happening earlier and earlier and that he is seeing more girls aged 6/7/8

I don’t have a daughter but I was just turned 9 when my periods started. I’d had puberty signs for about 2 years. Interesting that people say it’s getting earlier. I was 9 (am now 50) and my mother was 8. I don’t know about my grandmother but given her small height I’d say she was young too. They say you stop growing after your first period. Both my mother and I are under 5 ft.

Shamefulsecrets0 · 05/08/2023 23:52

I started mine aged 9, along with hormonal acne and discharge that nobody warned me about so I spent weeks convinced I was dying, too embarrassed to tell my mum - annoyingly my breasts never seemed to catch up with the rest of puberty. My DD is 7 and already seems to be showing some small signs - but I'm hoping she's got a few more years yet at least. I'll be having a word about changing bodies soon though 😢

DD is two months off being 11, I’d say she’s had some early signs of puberty for a year or more, like whiffy pits after sport, and a few spots, and emotional up and downs. No pubic hair or breast development and no period yet.

I think pubic hair and breast buds are later signs of puberty so would expect periods along fairly shortly after those.

kwetu · 06/08/2023 00:27

DD's puberty started at 9, periods at 13.

dozydoo · 06/08/2023 01:42

Dd is 9, she's been showing signs of puberty for about a year, she's gets quite wiffy, and her moods are something else! I even got called into school because she was so emotional one day for no reason, they said they thought it was the start of puberty, but as I'd already noticed, we had already had chats about it at home.

I was 9 when I started & it was awful, I remember not knowing what it was because my older sister who was 11 hadn't even started hers yet, (think she started when she was about 13) and my mum wouldn't believe me as I was so young 🤦‍♀️ so I guess my mum was older when she started, but she's not around anymore to ask.

Sittingonasale · 06/08/2023 01:51

DD1 didn't really have many signs of puberty before hers started about 12. She does take care of her personal hygiene though unlike her sister (now 11) who I have to beg to shower as. she gets BO.

11 y/0 is actually taller and probably just as developed as 13 y/o who is quite petite but not started yet.

My dad has hit the menopause by now. Explains his confusion of accidentally putting his wife's underwear on.

Lovelynames123 · 06/08/2023 05:27

We've had breast buds, pubic and underarm hair, moods, sweat etc since dd1 was 8, now 11 and still no period, dd2 has just started with under arm hair at almost 10 but nothing else really. I was 13 so hoping it holds off for them a bit longer

Pinkflamingopants · 06/08/2023 06:19

@Ohmych 7? Or year 7? If 7 then she needs to see a doctor

I got breast buds around 9 - joyfully, my left started growing for a significant time before my right and didn’t grow much pastbus/small boobs until Yr10 (15) when they shot up to 32 Cs. I only got my period at 15 too.
