Another vote for Nicholas Cage. I love Moonstruck, except for him and his shit acting. He wrecks every scene he's in.

I’m watching the second season of And Just Like That, and I mentally switch off when she comes on.

She has two expressions: slightly shocked and a little more shocked (and don’t get me started on all the unnecessary screeching and arm flailing for effect).

I don’t remember her being as bad in SATC, but I’ve probably just suppressed it.

Those answers (especially Hanks and Streep) are more suited for "which actor/actress ain't your cup of tea", as opposed to "worst actor/actress" which is just silly in the case of those two (likewise Harrison Ford who one person mentioned). The wooden Emma Watson is definitely suited to the latter topic.

The best assessment of acting that I've heard was made by an actor in reference to the exceptional Daniel Day-Lewis: the vast majority of actors and actresses are disposable in that you could easily replace them in a film and the film would be unaffected (bascially they were fortunate to get the gig). It's the unique quality an actor/actress brings that really sets them apart. Schwarzenegger clearly wont be winning any prizes for his acting, but he has a unique presence and charisma that makes him irreplaceable. Likewise you couldn't replace Rickman, A.Hopkins, Day-Lewis, J.Andrews, Depp, Hanks, Connery, Grant, Cruise etc. Denzel Washington has been in quite a few weak films (poor script), but the unique quality he brings makes them more watchable than they otherwise would be. Back to the Future would not have been the same classic that it is had Eric Stolz played Marty McFly and not Michael J. Fox. Emma Thompson (great actress in her own right) once said A.Hepburn was not a good actress, to which a son of Hepburn's brilliantly responded, "she may not have been, but she was a star".

Emma Watson is more wooden than a whole shed full of wood, in a town made of wood on a totally wooden planet.

Martin Freeman - he just seems to pull faces.

@DeeCee77 - yes, there are some 'greats' who are excellent at doing what they do even if what they do is mostly pretty much the same (Connery, Ford etc). Then there's the ones like Day-Lewis who are almost unrecognisable between their different roles. And there's some who are capable of the second who get typecast so if you only see them in that sort of role you think they're just doing what they do.

Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas - awful. Elisabeth Shue completely acted him off the screen. She was amazing.

Hugh Grant is a hugely underrated actor. He was fantastic in the Jeremy Thorpe thing, stole the show in Paddington 2 and was perfect in Florence Foster Jenkins. He’s quite a modest actor, if you get my drift. Never overdoes it.

I agree about Hugh Grant. He was definitely type cast for years but now he’s older and no longer gets those sorts of roles, he’s diversified as an actor, gets more interesting roles and was excellent in ‘British Scandal’ as Jeremy Thorpe. Also Florence Foster Jenkins too, I loved him in that.

The three main child actors from the Harry Potter films- just awful and would have ruined the films if it wasn't for everyone else carrying them.

I quite like Nicola Walker - but in pretty much everything she does the whole stopping mid sentence thing. Its ok for adding drama, or highlighting the horror of something but I think it was overused in The Split, and now is starting to grate

I think maybe that’s how she naturally speaks? I didn’t notice it particularly when she played Mrs Boone in Aldrich Kemp on the radio.

Cannot abide Keira Knightly, I just can’t watch any film that she’s in as she’s so awful.
And Adam Sadler, ditto. His voice is so grating and he plays the same character every time. Zzzzz.
There are loads of actors who I can’t see the fuss about, but only a handful I’ll go out if my way to avoid watching.

They have some awful actors in Doctors. The lady who plays receptionist Kirsty is really wooden.

Yes, he was the highest paid TV actor at one point, unbelievably. Him and William Roache (Ken Barlow) are shocking, It's no wonder they've both stuck to only one role, I can't imagine they could ever play anyone else.

Like many PP, I agree that most actors in soaps who have been there forever are not very good actors - as those who have left and come back have found out! Letitia Dean, Samia whatsit from Corrie, The baddie Kim from Emmerdale

Agree to the poster who mentioned Henry Cavill - his acting range isn't great but he does have a very handsome screen presence and an amazing body so I forgive him!
I used to dislike Jonny Depp until I saw him in Secret Window and appreciated what a good actor he actually is. Yes he plays a lot of characters with heavy makeup but never sounds the same person twice.
Hugh Grant has got a lot better as an actor since he stopped the floppy haired posh boy roles and did things like Paddington2 and the latest one where hes an Oompah Loompah!
Have never seen Andie MacDowell do a decent acting job tbh
