I’ve never really been aware of this actress before but that video response is appalling. She’s horrible.

Even if you did watch Corrie, you might have forgotten all about her.

She played Eva Price, who was written out in the summer of 2018

I'm a regular on the MN Corrie watchalongathon threads, and I had to google her. And then when I did she see that she played Eva Price, I had to search for that as well to remind myself what the character looked like. And what she did.

She's no Julie Goodyear.

RedRobyn2021 · 02/08/2023 12:29

These are my thoughts

I do not see the problem with asking, exposure does increase business

It's fine for her to say no

Its unprofessional to post it all over social media IMO

The celebrity lady, who incidentally I don't know of as I don't watch coronation street, will probably have a lot of unkind comments made about her and it must be horrible to have the Daily Fail stirring the pot. This is real person with a family.

Tough shit, innit.
Some nomark actor and a parasitical PR company get their comeuppance. It makes a refreshing change.

RedRobyn2021 · 02/08/2023 13:50

@Tryingmuchharder

It cost the baker nothing to say no without posting about it all over social media. I don't blame her for saying no, but as I said it seems unprofessional to me to plaster it online. Also, not very kind. Just generally unnecessary.

RedRobyn2021 · 02/08/2023 13:51

@originalnuttah what's a grifter?

RedRobyn2021 · 02/08/2023 13:52

@andlwpan no, just a person who tries to be compassionate to others.

RedRobyn2021 · 02/08/2023 13:53

@Tryingmuchharder

I don't blame the baker for saying no, you make a valid point. But I think it wasn't necessary or kind to plaster it all over social media.

PlacidPenelope · 02/08/2023 13:54

Also, not very kind.

How kind is it to expect others to use their skills and work for free?

I'm glad the Bakery put this out there it is high time these freeloading, grifting celebrities and influencers had their grabby behaviour put in the spotlight.

HRTQueen · 02/08/2023 13:54

What’s unkind about calling out publicly companies taking advantage of small businesses

they need to put together a good package then they need to pay out

why should people shut up about this I hope more go public with the expected freebies and how shoddy they are often treated

It’s not necessary or kind to ask for things for free either

ejbaxa · 02/08/2023 13:58

I think that it was a very unreasonable request asking the baker to work for no money, with payment being some publicity (perhaps). Party planners are extremely cheeky asking for hundreds of pounds worth of cake/work for free. It seems like CT wasn't involved so I can imagine her not being very happy about the fallout - but to say the baker craved publicity is a bit low IMO. I think it would have been easier for her to just say she knew nothing about it and sorry about the situation - it's not like CT did anything wrong, it was the planner. The baker was minding her own business when faced with a very cheeky request so she was not craving publicity IMO.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 02/08/2023 14:01

It seems like CT wasn't involved

If this was an event for CT then she'll have been plugged in like a valve in a heart and will have discussed every detail in detail with the planners. They won't suddenly have decided to contact the bakery for freebies because it'll be a nice surprise for their client.

FuppingEll · 02/08/2023 14:03

Flopsythebunny · 02/08/2023 11:41

As the owner of a small business, my inbox is always full of messages from so called influencers wanting freebies in exchange for promotion. We get sick to death of it. I some even threaten with poor reviews on if we refuse

Exactly. This isn't a new thing for that business. Not at all. Why did they choose to 'expose' this actress but not the 100s if other requests they get? Why not Harold from Hull with 1000 followers? They knew exactly what they were doing, I bet they were hopping with excitement when that message landed in their inbox.

ReeseWitherfork · 02/08/2023 14:15

Comefromaway · 02/08/2023 12:37

But I can’t work out how NVRMND and the celeb name got leaked? Surely it was the bakery?

A different bakery that they also approached leaked the name.

Oh really… They’ve played this game very well then. No mention of them anywhere (or clearly there is if you knew, but not in the main bulk of the story). Tbh I think they’re the only people wrong in this situation. No reason either the events company or the actor needed to be named.

Callyem · 02/08/2023 14:15

CF-ery should ALWAYS be called out!

DismantledKing · 02/08/2023 14:17

Callyem · 02/08/2023 14:15

CF-ery should ALWAYS be called out!

Yep. Enough of this misplaced twee ‘be kind!’ BS.

LaDeeDa123 · 02/08/2023 14:52

The events company are getting everything they deserve. They tried to get free things based on their assertion that OK Magazine would be covering the event. That wasn’t true. This is technically fraud.

DismantledKing · 02/08/2023 14:53

I’ll always be on the side of proper businesses like the bakers, and fuck parasitical and pointless industries like PR.

wayyour · 02/08/2023 14:56

I don't blame the baker for posting about this on social media. The sheer cheek of the company asking for so much.

The only downside is that the actress (I'd never heard of her) didn't seem to know anything about it, and has been hassled by reporters.

Beefcurtains79 · 02/08/2023 14:57

Why did she bother lying on her Instagram yesterday that she wasn’t having a party? That was strange wasn’t it.
The posters trying to blame the bakery for this, and saying she probably had no idea sound so naive they can’t possibly be real.

You think the actress did know about the requests?

You’d have to be really, really naive to believe this. If she didn’t know, surely she’d be angry at the events company? She’s not even pretending to be, as she can’t afford to piss them off and lose out on her other free shit they’ve grifted for her.

ArcaneWireless · 02/08/2023 15:00

The only downside is that the birthday boy may now be cakeless.

🏕 as BiscuitBiscuit indeed.

Why should anyone be kind to what is effective a scammer?

The "be kind" brigade always trot out the tired old trope, forgetting that decency and honesty are valued as well. And the PR company plus the Z-list "celeb" would to well to remember they ha e acted without decency or honesty towards a small business.

Grifters are no better than thieves.

OriginalUsername2 · 02/08/2023 15:02

The request was crass, the owners response was brilliant. The “star” who commented doesn’t get it at all.

The email itself is terrible. “You’ll get loads of exposure” doesn’t sound professionally worded at all, even if you leave out the bloody cheek of it.
