Thread 9 - TalkLair: “Russell's teapot goes on being round”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 8).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with summer flowers - should bloody well be, what with all that rain. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

I'd always taken that poster to be no more than a wind-up merchant. He certainly has form for it in the past.

Britinme · 22/08/2023 20:12

I honestly can't see the point of wind-up behaviour. It seems awfully juvenile.

MouseMinge · 22/08/2023 20:20

Wind-up behaviour is definitely juvenile. If you knew someone who did it in real life you'd stop having anything to do with them and so it is or needs to be online. People get away with it for far too long online because most of us fall for it for too long. I cannot begin to tell you how much my life and mental health improved when I left that site. Mumsnet is a garden of Eden compared to the toxicity there.

There seems to be some area of the brain in certain males (#NotAllMen) that is forever 12 years old. I think men's brains are supposed to be heavier than women's brains, and perhaps in some cases that extra weight is the weight of stupidity.

As @MouseMinge said, they rarely get away with it for long in real life, except among their fellow twerps. Anonymity is all.

And that's why I'm so glad I left the Old Place Grin

(Although I disagree that MN is a garden of Eden, there are plenty of frankly alarming people! The real advantage is that MN is BIG, so big that mostly, we can self-segregate away from the weirdoes).

I still miss parts of it, but the in group / out group thing gives the bullies such a free reign.

MavisMcMinty · 22/08/2023 21:34

Macman has bought a harness and Go Pro camera for Badger!!!

Unfortunately there’s no card with the Go Pro and no instructions. And after we tried the harness on Badger he went off for a wander, without camera. Think he must have tried to roll the harness off, he’s never worn one before, and he came back with it covered in mud. But still in situ!

Exciting stuff! I hope you get some success with it too because I really want to see the videos!

Was the film that you showed the trailer for called Talk To Me? I can't remember if it was that or another horror that's about to come out. If it was that, then I saw it tonight. Quite a few jump scares and some really deeply unnecessary violence but ultimately a bit disappointing.

duc748 · 22/08/2023 23:32

On toilet watch tonight 😀, went to a proper pool hall with decent tables to have a few games. The wall above a row of urinals was covered in photos of old, 50s, 60s, racing cars, Aston Martins and the like. The opposite wall, behind the wash-basins, was covered in black and white photos of Marilyn Monroe. I assume the calculation is, these are the images that men are least likely to scribble graffiti over. Anyway, it seems to have worked. Now I'm fascinated to know the decor in the Ladies!

Yes! And that’s a shame, the trailer genuinely had me breathless and tachycardic.

I love a good horror film but the trailer for this one (in the article) is terrifying!

Ah no, it was Mother May I.

Britinme · 23/08/2023 05:02

DH's birthday today (81!). We went out to dinner and then to the theatre to see a musical called "Something Rotten", which was a brilliant spoof of both Shakespeare and musicals, complete with a fabulous actor playing Shakespeare who not only slithered around like a proto-Elvis but was a great dancer too (yes there was tap dancing!) Lovely evening.

"Something Rotten" sounds amazing! I've Googled it and see it was co-written by John O'Farrell - he's so funny on his history podcast.

Belated birthday greetings to Mr Britinme, hope you had a lovely time!

MouseMinge · 23/08/2023 11:17

Another belated happy birthday to Mr Brit. The musical sounds great!

@MavisMcMinty I shall keep my eye out for Mother May I. I do like a good horror. I was slightly annoyed with last night's because I kept jumping and making the jumping noise people around thought I was genuinely scared, in a girly scared, she'll have nightmares way. Bollocks was I or will I, I just jump easily. If I'm concentrating on something and someone comes up behind me I'll jump and be all argh which doesn't mean I'm afeared just that my stupid body reacts like that.

MouseMinge · 23/08/2023 11:19

In other news it's a glorious summers day here and perfect for a short stroll down to the beach. Huzzah for the sun!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 23/08/2023 12:08

Happy birthday MrBrit!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 23/08/2023 12:09

There's an edit button!

We have an edit button! This is not a drill!

Edited, for proof.

MavisMcMinty · 23/08/2023 12:43

Ooh! Test post.

Yay!

Forgot to look and see how long we have to edit our typos.

Perhaps we can edit more than once?

Wow! We can!

Still not sure how long we can edit though.

Edit 3: How long we can edit after the original post, I mean.

duc748 · 23/08/2023 13:01

That's a surprise, isn't it? Although most (all?) forums have an Edit Post feature, I kinda get why MN has resisted it, so this is quite a change in policy, isn't it?

Britinme · 23/08/2023 13:07

Thanks from Mr Brit (who some of you may remember as 10smith) for the birthday greetings. I highly recommend "Something Rotten " if you get the chance to see it.

I'm guessing the edit button must be on the website? I'm not seeing it on the iPad app, which is what I'm using as I write

MavisMcMinty · 23/08/2023 13:15

It’s in the dot dot dot bit underneath each post.

Britinme · 23/08/2023 13:16

No dot dot dot on the iPad app :-(

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 23/08/2023 13:19

Not in the app yet, but apparently they're working on adding it.

Britinme · 23/08/2023 13:19

Good!
