Thread 9 - TalkLair: “Russell's teapot goes on being round”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 8).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with summer flowers - should bloody well be, what with all that rain. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Joke presents are usually horrid and waste of the world's resources anyway. But I agree, pooing cats seem particularly unlovely. I picked up an ad blocker somewhere along the way, which is nice.

There are fat fluffy baby swallows in the nest over my kitchen door, bulging out over the sides - they must be only a day or two from first flight, and seem to be keeping lots of adults busy feeding them - parents, maybe uncles and aunts, big siblings. Sweeties. Though it has to be admitted that they, like the calendar cats, do poo.

That’s a lovely house apart from the lack of garden. The description is both brilliant and alarming: I don’t want my floors dancing; if there’s any dancing to be done I’d prefer to do it myself on a sturdy floor, thanks very much. And a luminous hall sounds scary.

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn - that's an excellent contribution on the Belfastdad gym thread - makes it really clear that the person's flashing of his bits to young girls was a very deliberate act.

I agree! The context makes it crystal clear.

Re: the lack of garden in the Leicester house, it wouldn't put me off. I'd fill it with glorious tropical-looking container plants and enjoy a jungly-yet-cosy vibe all summer. Victoria Park is so close, if I needed SPACE I'd just toddle over there.

I even like the mustard-yellow ceiling!

I like the look of it.

All the food talk makes me sad. My diet at the moment is appalling because there are so many things I can't eat because they get stuck. I'm so over it. On the only plus side: ice cream!

I'm in a grand old mood though because England are in the world cup final! Suck on that suboptimal men's team!

MavisMcMinty · 16/08/2023 16:37

I went to the local shop just after England’s third goal, and the village was EMPTY. Once I’d got to the till, when the game was over, there were about 10 people in the queue behind me!

SinnerBoy · 16/08/2023 16:40

Oh dear, poor Australia! They were sure they were going to thrash the Poms!

duc748 · 16/08/2023 16:51

I post on an Aussie sport forum (for the rugby league), and I had a look at the appropriate thread. 178 pages! Cutting to the end, it was mostly blokes complaining that the Matildas 'flopped', or, sack the coach. A few posts in a more sporting spirit, to be fair.

Tricyrtis2022 · 16/08/2023 18:35

Been out all day so haven't seen any news. I'm allergic to football, but still very glad indeed to see that the women's England team won the world cup final. The first time England have won the world cup since 1966. Bet they'll be having a good party tonight!

duc748 · 16/08/2023 18:42

It was the semi-final, Tric. the Final is on Sunday.

Tricyrtis2022 · 16/08/2023 18:42

Really? Bollocks. Oh well.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 16/08/2023 20:48

It's the first time in the final since 1966, whether they win or not.

MouseMinge · 16/08/2023 22:39

They have a very good chance of winning.

I was catching up with The Newsagent today and was a tad enraged about the whole Manchester United Mason Greenwood affair. For those who don't know he was charged with a number of offences against a woman, charges that held a lot of weight because of a video that was seen on social media where the offences were seen/heard. While all that was going on he was suspended from the team. The charges were dropped earlier this year because the woman in question backed out, I'm sure for very good reasons. Anyway. Man U have since been deciding whether to make him part of the team again or not. Obviously, a lot of men think he should be let back because the charges were dropped despite the proof of his vile behaviour being around for anyone to see. The problem, of course, is that he is very good at football because if he wasn't then he'd have been kicked out and none of this "should we/shouldn't we" bollocks would be going on.

Man U still haven't made their decision but the prevaricating makes it clear that they want him back in the team. If they didn't the decision would have been easy. The decision should have been easy. Part of this stage of decision making is reaching out to stakeholders including the women's team. And here I get more enraged. Some of those team members are currently in Australia playing in the world cup, the biggest competition in their careers. Bad enough that Man U are reaching out to them right now. Worse, braindead male supporters are filling up their socials with pleas/thinly veiled threats that they should get behind Greenwood.

None of this should be happening. He should have been kicked out of the team and the only reason he hasn't been is because he's good at football and no one gives a flying fuck about women.

weaseleyes · 17/08/2023 10:46

Relief in the weasel household today as daughter got into uni. Her grades were a bit lower than predicted, so she was a bit disappointed (and her friend did better!), but she's going where she wants. I have been showing her A level catastrophe! headlines to cheer her up.

artant · 17/08/2023 11:42

Oh that’s great news @weaseleyes - well done your daughter! It does sound like grades are quite a bit lower this year but in any case all that matters is where they get you so hers have done the job. Once you move up to the next level no one cares what grades got you there.

Britinme · 17/08/2023 14:04

Congrats to weaseldaughter!

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 14:16

How exciting! Congratulations!

Considering getting a dog collar-cam, just to see where Badger goes on his practically DAILY solo jaunts. It’s just who he is and what he does now, think it’s too late for neutering, and besides, I know a dog who was done at 6 months old, and he disappears for HOURS on walks, think it’s just a boy dog thing, my bitches have never really done it.

Anyway, I want to know where he goes, just to reassure myself he’s not potentially annoying angry shotgun-toting farmers. Haven’t had any phone calls or neighbours returning him home or passive-aggressive village Facebook posts talking about “a black and white unneutered dog” knowing full well who and whose he is, so I think he’s just going through the woods, trotting along, minding his own business.

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 14:18

He’s a very lucky boy to live here. He probably imagines himself as a street dog by day.

artant · 17/08/2023 14:59

As part of a bigger piece of work, a student of mine once made a video of her dog’s view of the world by attaching a camera to its collar. There’s something about the way the dog (and therefore the camera) moved that made it it utterly joyous to watch. End of year assessment was always a drudge but that year whenever I needed a bit of a break I’d go and watch the dog’s eye video again. So I say do it!

MavisMcMinty · 17/08/2023 15:04

Right! Off to google.

Tricyrtis2022 · 17/08/2023 16:08

Congrats to weasel's daughter!

That vid and Mavis's idea of putting a camera on Badger both sound delightful and now I also want to know where he goes. What a lucky dog he is.

I often used to let Toby choose our walks and just followed him. Sometimes he's just do one of our regular routes but occasionally he'd get so far and decide he wanted to walk one the other routes, so he'd turn around and go that way instead.

Kucinghitam · 17/08/2023 16:27

Congratulations to BabyWeasel!

weaseleyes · 17/08/2023 17:27

Thank you all! It seems no time at all since I was announcing her birth in the other place (where she was sibblet, but I rather like her as a baby weasel).

Britinme · 17/08/2023 17:40

Oh my goodness I remember her being born when I was Jenny28!
