The Roman Catholic Church

Following the death of Sinead O'Connor.

Obviously the acts and crimes of this church are vast and can't be contained to one place. But in honour of a great woman, if you find it in yourself, give your testimony here.

Mine : my father was institutionalised, brutalised and brainwashed in childhood by the Catholic organisation who schooled him following the death of his father. He was an unhappy and violent man who didn't understand family relationships and consequently my own childhood was blighted with violence and misery. I did however learn my catechism very well. I now absolutely reject it.

Most of my relatives are catholics and I doubt that there is anything that the church could do that would turn them away. The level of brainwashing is unbelievable. I was terrified of going to hell as a child and believed every single thing my teachers/priests said.

I will never understand how people send their children to confession and catholic school. Why would you support an organisation that buried babies in septic tanks and carried out such vile abuse to mothers and children. Disgusting.

I don't think you understand Catholicism at all. In Catholicism even the worst sinner can be with God while Protestants mostly believe salvation is achieved through God's grace alone and that this is in Gods plan determined before you are even born, Many believe that God will forgive the sins of some people and not others and that there is nothing you can do to "earn" God's forgiveness. While in Catholicism all can access God's love and forgiveness through confession and absolution.

I've never met a brainwashed catholic in my life, the Catholic Church is not a cult, it does not behave like a cult, it is the largest Christian denomination in the world, while people in the UK love to disparage it, around half of all Christians globally are Catholic.

@Psyclops

i read that read. You have clearly chosen to ignore all the people on there that have pointed out that these views come from her, not the Church she chose to be part of.

This is your bias working - comparing the historical RCC and yet not mentioning frigging witchcraft in other Christian faiths of the lack of womens rights now is ridiculous.

Same for the much confused criticism of science and the RCChurch

Honestly, this is about your views ( which you are of course entitled to) but don’t make out that there isn’t some distorted and inordinate focus on the RCC that isn’t matched anywhere other than for Tories and Brexiteers on here.

So it seems being around Gay people turns you Gay but being around Catholics turns you straight - interesting

Again you are just an ignorant bigot, not interest in actually having a proper discussion but only in hating people and something you know nothing about, how very sad.

The church has blatently criticised women's rights and equal rights for gay people. Campaigned against them. Their representatives have said some truly terrible things on national media which are traumatising for people who experience these things. It is not an inclusive church for many people. IDK how anyone can deny that. If you want to hold such beliefs, that's up to you, but it shouldn't be getting anywhere the 6 o' clock news or state funded schools.

Perhaps things are changing, hopefully @Chickenkeev

"Pope Francis was the first Pope to support same-sex civil unions; after a backlash from some within the church, he later clarified that he meant laws to protect certain rights, such as hospital visitation and inheritance.[8][9] In February 2023, Pope Francis said, that criminalization of same-sexual acts in several countries in Africa/in Asia are wrong, a sin and an injustice."
