Just saw the not guilty verdict. I haven’t been following it closely but from the bits I have seen, I’m surprised. Was this what was expected?

As PP there is a difference between being an annoying flirt and criminal behaviour. He might have been a bloody nuisance but clearly the jury felt he fell short of actual criminality.

@Needmorelego - no, but feeling like you’re very sexually desirable, seeking more “conquests”, feeling invincible and powerful - those things go hand in hand and are typical male behaviour. We see it all the time.

What a load of sexist bullshit.

AtomicBlondeRose · 26/07/2023 17:08

@Aquamarine1029 oh lord, I’m not in charge of the prosecution, it’s just my opinion! I just think there’s patterns of behaviour with creepy, predatory men, and they often go back years, and yes, often skirt the bounds of legality so they can be very difficult to prosecute. It’s not just sleeping with lots of people, it’s seeing them as conquests and things you can play with. Very male behaviour and clearly goes back years.

Get back to work Kevin!

orangelight · 26/07/2023 17:11

you can't prosecute someone for
having different morals to you. The law determines whats legal or
not.

AtomicBlondeRose · 26/07/2023 17:12

I’m not saying the verdict isn’t correct. But not being prosecuted isn’t the same thing as nothing at all happened.

AtomicBlondeRose · 26/07/2023 17:13

Also, I personally have no issue with anyone sleeping around or doing what they want in their sex life. I do have an issue with powerful men abusing that power to take advantage of other people. That’s the problem.

you have to be able to show that the law was broken. Even if you're right and there was an abuse of power, there needs to be proof/evidence/ credible witnesses etc

What a load of sexist bullshit.

So, pretty much the behaviour of every female "influencer".

Smokeebacon · 26/07/2023 17:17

When I lived in London I used to see him about with very young and very handsome men. I'm sure there was a power imbalance in his sexual relationships.

cariadlet · 26/07/2023 17:26

I was an admirer of Kevin Spacey as an actor for years so was really disappointed when the accusations came out.
I think it's the "What a Creep" podcast which did an episode about him.

Looks like he's a predatory creep but his behaviour didn't cross the boundary into criminality (or that couldn't be proved and it's important to maintain the presumption of innocence).

More of a Philip Schofield than a Harvey Weinstein perhaps? (in terms os culpability;sexuality is irrelevant).

Philip Schofield, Huw Edwards, Kevin Spacey. All creepy predatory men who have a thing for much, much younger victims.

Not illegal but their careers have been ruined for a reason.

IncompleteSenten · 26/07/2023 16:42

Some of the charges were dismissed on a legal technicality. That's not the same thing as innocent.

Given the jury's findings, it seems likely that they would have resulted in Not Guilty verdicts if they'd proceeded.

Twyford · 26/07/2023 17:31

AtomicBlondeRose · 26/07/2023 16:56

I vividly remember years ago - I mean it must have been 2003/4 - visiting a friend in London who had a friend who worked at the Old Vic and who said that Spacey had quite a reputation for being “a bit of a tart”, so I can well believe these accusations.

That's an accusation that is made so often, not least against women. It isn't evidence of any crime.

Needmorelego · 26/07/2023 17:32

@Clymene Mr Spacey’s accusers are apparently men now in their 30s/40s so the age difference isn’t huge tbh.
I wouldn’t say they were “much much” younger.

pompomdaisy · 26/07/2023 17:50

Sometimes people behave like tarts. It doesn't make them guilty and need to result in loss of career. John barrowman is an obvious tart should he also lose his job? A gay man witch hunt has gone on here.

lovenotwar149 · 26/07/2023 16:39

He's guilty as f*. in my opinion

Oh my goodness. How long have you known him? Has he always been like that? What did he do to you?

TheYearOfSmallThings · 26/07/2023 17:56

I'm not against going after every affluent, successful, powerful man who uses his affluence, success and power to behave piggishly. But if we're going after one let's go after them all, not just the ones who target men.

AtomicBlondeRose · 26/07/2023 17:58

I’m not sure John “gets his dick out in public” Barrowman is a good person to compare anyone to!

I'd say exclusively pursuing men who are 20-30 years younger than you is much much younger.

Some of the allegations are from men who were teenagers. Spacey has never disputed that he was on Epstein's flight log either.

Aquamarine1029 · 26/07/2023 17:01

If that's not rock solid evidence I don't what is. 🙄

That’s hearsay clearly…! Not evidence.

I sometimes wonder is it’s about time we abolished juries.

LlynTegid · 26/07/2023 18:04

It was not proved beyond reasonable doubt, seems to me. There are some people who I say were acquitted, some found not guilty, because in my opinion there is a difference.

But not according to the evidence in front of a jury after a long trial. But hey, your uninformed opinion is much more relevant.
if you are so sure why not post with your name attached and invite him to sue?
