shocked to see how much meat is being consumed, if I’m honest. It’s 90%+ of the meals on here

Vegan propaganda is strong.

Most people eat meat because it’s the perfect human food.

Given I've been watching Motherland on repeat I fancy a massive buttery spaghetti bolognaise with grated cheese and plenty of sauce. If you haven't watched it the first episode is particularly brilliant and includes the spag bol incident.

I have recently re watched the whole thing. Love Motherland

Im not shocked that meat is being consumed, I’m shocked at the frequency it’s being consumed. You don’t need red meat or chicken for 90% of your meals, not only is it a catastrophe for the environment, it’s expensive and bad for you.

Most people don’t have meat for breakfast, so your numbers are off yet again.

Those that have it for lunch are unlikely to be eating much, just a sandwich filling or something, or cheese or eggs or whatever.

Over 85% of the U.K. population eat meat.

It’s unusual for omnivorous households to have more than a couple of main meals a week that are vegetarian or vegan.

I get that yes, reducing meat and fish consumption is good in view of climate change, but I think you’re being disingenuous to be “shocked” at 1/3 veggie 2/3 omnivore main meals.

We only eat meat 2-3 times a week. I'm not sure why you say it's shocking, everyone has a choice on the amount of meat their household consumed.

You’re being extremely defensive, why? I’m not singling anyone out, I’m just saying if this thread is at all representative of the population then then we are all eating far too much meat. It’s poignant because there are so many threads on here about cost of living (meat costs a bomb) health issues (eating too much isn’t good for you) and climate change (meat is a contributing factor). I just hoped it would make someone go 🤔 actually yeah, I am eating meat pretty much every day, maybe I should cut down.

LMNT · 25/07/2023 17:42

@Sweetashunni thats just wrong!

Meat is really good for humans and regenerative agriculture could solve the carbon issue in a generation.

Of course but this is the same website where posters are shocked at the cost of their food shop and wondering when something will be done about climate change. It’s uncomfortable but it needed to be pointed out I think.

navithefairy · 25/07/2023 17:44

A spicy traybake with halloumi.

LMNT · 25/07/2023 17:46

@Sweetashunni recall survey based nutritional epidemiology cannot prove causation. Red meat has never been show conclusively to cause bowel cancer in a randomised clinical trial.

What are you having for dinner?
Ineedwinenow · 25/07/2023 17:47

2 Derbyshire Oatcakes with bacon and melted cheese 😋

navithefairy · 25/07/2023 17:47

@Sweetashunni Good luck with the uphill battle of raising awareness!

I think the problem is people often feel judged or patronised when it's pointed out that eating meat isn't great. Especially when for a lot of us, it is just the diet we've always known.

I do still eat meat but I've cut back a lot, but that needs quite a lot of education and a desire to do so in the first place, and changing some lifelong habits. Not everyone has the desire or the ability.

Good on you for what you are doing, though.

Beans on Toast.

DD & I love beans on toast, DH hates beans, so it's a treat for us whenever he's working lates.

LosingTheBelly · 25/07/2023 17:51

@Sweetashunni i said my DH is eating leftover chinese takeaway. He's vegetarian. I did not mention it because I did not think to. Because that is our normal.

I know it is a free world, but the thread started as a happy one about what other people are eating for dinner. Honestly- your evangelising isn't appropriate or welcome.

Beef Noodles I’ve never made it before so I’m hoping it’s nice!

@TheGriffle taming twins recipes are always great!

Decafflatteplease · 25/07/2023 17:51

Fajitas here, family favourite, easy and fairly healthy

AtleastitsnotMonday · 25/07/2023 17:54

I'm making Thai fish cakes (cod and parsley for the boring people) with garlic and sesame brocolli (plain brocolli for the boring people) and an Asian slaw.

I think it's understandable that @Sweetashunni is concerned about climate change and people's health. It's a growing concern and in the coming years we'll all have to start re-evaluating our lifestyles in many ways (just to also note - I'm a meat eater and I'm worried about it!)

So although it's misaligned with the lighthearted intention of this thread, it's understandable that people are concerned, so shall we just be forgiving and move on?

@Sweetashunni - message heard loud and clear - we're eating too much meat, we all know it and you are unlikely to change any more minds beyond this point.

CurlewKate · 25/07/2023 17:58

Pasta with seafood sauce made from shallots, garlic, white wine, cream, spinach and Aldi's amazing frozen seafood. And a splash of Pernod if we have any left. Leftovers for my lunch tomorrow.

merrymelodies · 25/07/2023 17:59

Chicken bothers (DC's name for chicken burger) made with sautéed chicken breast, mayo, lettuce and sweet onion. And bun.

Therealjudgejudy · 25/07/2023 18:03

Salmon fishcakes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and lots of parsley sauce

yellowsmileyface · 25/07/2023 18:04

Aubergine, black bean, and feta tacos with tzatiki.

Sort of an accidental fusion dish using what I have in the fridge!

NaNaNasAndAirGuitars · 25/07/2023 18:06

Garlic chilli tofu and broccoli
