Holiday makers at it in hot tub...

We have a couple of converted barns as holiday rentals. Before anyone starts, no we can't get residential permission on them and no we don't make much money at all especially now the business electricity is so high (and no we don't get help for that). Anyway, they have good sized gardens and are not too far from the sea so attract families with small children this time of year. They also have hot tubs. Last night was the first warm and sunny evening since last check in and guests in one cottage (two adults) were having sex very loudly in their hot tub at 9pm (along with loud music). I'm not sure if they thought they couldn't be heard because a hot tub is pretty loud if you are in it. Or maybe they just don't care but hot tub noise is NOT loud to surrounding gardens, fields and houses and we can quite often hear people's slightly raised conversations in them. There are not many buildings or traffic noises around to drown out noises. I shuffled our kids off to bed pretty sharpish. The guests know we live on site when they book and have heard our neighbours kids during the day because their garden is almost next to theirs and also sound travels really, really well here. Anyway this has given us the ick big time. They are here until the weekend. I want to say something to them so it doesn't put off other guests. OH does not think we should (he also wants to get rid of all hot tubs asap!) and has dragged himself to work as per usual so it's just me and the kids. WWYD?

Also this is the first time OP has encountered this and she owns the place so obviously not most people do this @BadNomad ! They might have sex in it, but not so loud they can be heard by the neighbours.

OsirisservesAnubis · 26/07/2023 21:00

They won't be the first that have done it. It's just you know about it this time.

I've had sex in a hot tub, it wasn't good.

OsirisservesAnubis · 26/07/2023 21:01

My own hot tub I hasten to add! No one else used it!

It's like going camping or caravaning - you're going to be disturbed by other people's noise. If you don't like noise, don't holiday in places where people will be outside making noise.

I agree. Having heard others having sex in tents whilst camping, you have to accept this is part and parcel of it 🤷🏻

You're assuming they know how loud they're being. Sound travels outdoors. You might not be aware of how far.

But, yeah, plenty of sex goes on in hot tubs whether you hear it or not. It's actually why a lot of couples book places with them.

I can't understand how you can have sex in a hot tub, or any water, and not have it forced up your vagina Blush. I'm surprised people are so eager to do it.

In desperate moments things happen. Not tried it personally in a hot tub, but others obviously like it going by this thread!

But the problem here is the noise. If they don't realise, the OP should tell them. They might not want to be heard! And the other guests and OP's family really shouldn't have to listen to it. I'm not saying people shouldn't have sex on holiday, but I don't think it's that outlandish to say that no one else should be able to hear it. Just being on holiday doesn't mean no social norms apply any more.

No you don’t - loud sex is completely inappropriate when you’re sharing an outdoor space with other adults and children.

It's the sex. It has given her "the ick". Her husband wants to get rid of the hot tubs now rather than just tell people to shush. Because they don't like people having sex in the hot tubs.

Not sex that they and their children and other paying guests can hear, no! Of course it gives people the ick to hear other people's noisy sex. I'm sure the OP is fine with the idea that her guests have sex in the holiday accommodation she provides, but not ok with having to listen to it - and obviously most guests don't do this as this is the first time she's had this problem.

I am so surprised that some people don't agree with this!

Grim but it should be part of the information pack that fornication at anytime is prohibited and will, if 'substances' are found when doing a 'check' in the filter and surrounding waters, wil be subjected to a hefty fine which they will have agreed to if your deposit scheme is water tight

willowstar · 26/07/2023 21:38

Maybe not the point....but we have had a hot tub for the past four years and have never once had sex in it. Nope. We all go in it, including my young children and their friends...so no sex. Ew. So they are not all filthy sex ponds.

With young children and their friends, yours is probably a pee pond instead 😂I'm not sure which is worse. 🙄

Get rid of the hot tubs - grim things anyway, and in a holiday rental they are going to be used for sex. Then send an email along the lines of @Seasideanticscanleadtosandybuckets suggestion

Winner!

Harls1969 · 26/07/2023 22:59

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is now singing 'Sex pond, sex pond, you're my sex pond'?

No more “grim” and “used for sex” than the bed sheets. A proper hot tub, not a cheap inflatable, runs a filter constantly and has chlorine cartridges that maintain a level of chlorination. We change the water every 3 months. I guarantee you our hot tub is cleaner than any public pool you’ve ever swam in.

SirChenjins · 27/07/2023 06:32

I’m sure your hot tub is a marvel in terms of cleanliness - others in shared accommodation probably not so much, and certainly used for sex as shown on this thread (unlike public swimming pools - local authorities, for example, tend to take a dim view of people shagging loudly in their pools).

Honestly ideas like this are crazy. How on earth would you prove there is jizz in the water?!

People shagging loudly does attract ire regardless of location. People shagging quietly, don't necessarily attract as much attention, which doesn't mean it doesn't happen, even in public swimming pools.

A place I stayed at (lodges) with hot tubs had a sign on reception stating hot tubs will be tested daily, and if any bodily fluids are detected (we all know what they are hinting at here), a fine of £50 will be imposed for cleaning.
I kid you not every morning whilst we was in the lodge eating breakfast a man came on the patio to test the hot tub with his little testing kit.
I wouldn't recommend testing hot tubs in front of guests as it did make us feel a bit uncomfortable, but maybe you can have a sign or something, or let guests know on the website etc that a fine will be imposed. This might deter people from doing it.
But it's all about guests having a bit of respect outside, especially when you are literally living on the site.

OooohAhhhh · 27/07/2023 08:49

Obviously not stating a fine will be imposed for having sex, but for detection of anything in the water, due to the hot tub needing to cleaned.

This just isn’t possible

i have a hot tub and check the levels (Ie PH of the water) regularly. That’s all that man was doing.

there isn’t some sort of jizz testing kit I assure you

Apparently, all hot tubs which are commercially let out like this should have the water changed between them anyway. So what difference does it make if there is any bodily fluids in it?
