I know at first glance it looks like Lucy M Lloyd

But the capital L of Lloyd is completely different to the capital letter of the first name - and I'm sure Incan see an o! Making it not Lucy

Any thoughts please?

This is so thrilling. Honestly. Makes my heart beat faster 😀

Because this is next to nothing to go on, I truly just wanted to know if people thought it was Louey or Lucy!

God knows what you guys would turn up with some of my letters

Letters are one of my favourite, if you have something you need searching for please put it up. I’m rusty but have enjoyed a bit of research

Dalekjastninerels · 24/07/2023 22:26

I would say Louey M Lloyd too.

Yes; Louey short for Louise or Louisa.

This is what my handwriting is like.

A 4 year old child wouldn't be getting a ring for her birthday or have I lost the plot?

no, youre not losing the plot - I took the previous census and found the census 10 year before with the same people

In searching for that census there is a newspaper announcement of a marriage in 1883 for a Louey M Lloyd to a Rev Vawdry in Exeter

wow - amazing!

SabrinaThwaite · 24/07/2023 22:47

Oh yes!

Llewellyn Brookes Vawdrey was the nephew of William Seaman Vawdrey.

William Seaman Vawdrey’s daughter Fanny Maria married George Lloyd and were the parents of Louisa Maria Lloyd.

@ivykaty44 oh I'll hold you to that! I'll share a few bits tomorrow.

I have a lovely sweet letter from a grandfather to his grandson written back in about 1850 I think.

Amazing work, everyone. I give up my theory that WWV was the grandfather, but could easily be another relative such as her brother-in-law. I think it's time for bed now!

TheOwlChronicles · 24/07/2023 22:57

William wyatt vawdrey ... there's a thing. I wonder if we are actually on the right tracks?

MoralOrLegal · 24/07/2023 22:59

Of course, not her brother-in-law at the time of her birthday, but one of many many cousins! Night night, detectives.

TheOwlChronicles · 24/07/2023 22:59

@MoralOrLegal It is indeed impeccable work! Like a history club

And even if it's absolutely nothing to do with this note ... I absolutely love the thought that, 150 + years after my death, someone might one day talk about me n the way that we have talked about these people today

William Wyatt Audrey was her husband's brother.

Wouldn't it be great if we had one of these a week to solve?

Fizzadora · 24/07/2023 23:09

I used to work with a girl whose maiden name was Vawdrey from the Middlewich/Sandbach area

MMBaranova · 24/07/2023 23:19

Fantastic sleuthing. So little to go on.

TheOwlChronicles · 24/07/2023 23:23

@Nomoreheroics err I can certainly supply that for you! 😀

Lowy

This thread is amazing. I posted here earlier, but now I have to name change. Who would have known. Vawdrey is a name synonymous with Cheshire and into North Wales. It goes back a thousand years. The Vawdreys were huge landowners and very rich well before the days of the empire. The original Vawdrey was granted land and title by William The Conqueror. They had tens of thousands of acres, farms, forests and quarries stretching westwards. There are also descendants spawned over Devon.

This is so cool. I wonder what Louey was like, how amazing that we've still got (probably) one of her birthday presents.

I did think it probably wasn't from a future husband because you wouldn't be likely to keep that ring tucked away, you'd wear it. But I didn't guess that he'd be a relation/future in-law!

TheOwlChronicles · 25/07/2023 15:50

Wearing it today and thinking about who Louey might have been!

It's a very pretty ring.
