Surely no one…. Not the cosy crew, not the ‘no bad weather just bad clothes’ brigrade, not those who claim to sweat if temps are any higher than 15 degrees… surely none of you are into this weather at this point?!
It’s so SHIT!!!

Me either and I think it's really crass to bring something like that up on this thread.

I agree. Not sure where these posters live but we don’t have constant 35 degrees in the U.K. - even in the south east. It might peak for a couple of days but that is it.

all I’m asking for is 23 degrees to 26 perhaps and DRY for a few days and NO WIND. That’s it. Stop going on about people dying at 30 degrees plus. It rarely happens in the U.K.

The cat's sleeping on my foot, sunbathing in the warmth and light coming in through the front window. I'm comfortable, he's comfortable, it's not bad.

Nice for you. It's grey and coming down in buckets in the north east.
Yesterday was forecast to be much worse than it turned out though.

for lots of us it’s terrible

There's no qualification in the statement above that it's specifically for people in the North West to agree with them?

It's beginning to cloud over now and I expect it's going to start raining in a minute. It's still not cold and it's not overwhelmingly hot. It's comfortable and if I went out, an umbrella would keep it off my head. It might piss down later. But I'm still going to be comfortable.

I'm glad I didn't plant any tomatoes or potatoes this year, as they would have been fucked with the wet and the warm, mind. But it's so much nicer just existing in this temperature and the rest of the plants are loving it. Not as if we could have gone anywhere anyhow, what with the rail strikes/overtime ban.

Hotflushesinthesunfun · 02/08/2023 10:13

I got woken up by the rain on my window in the night and it’s set in for the day. Absolutely bucketing it down. My sky tv has stopped working due to the weather.
I can’t remember the last day it didn’t rain here.

@NeverDropYourMooncup

you might think these temperatures are nicer, I don’t

and what’s the point in loads of rain for the plants when it’s always pissing it down so you can’t sit in your garden to enjoy them?!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 02/08/2023 11:17

I think the birds, insects and other invertebrates are enjoying them just fine without me, tbh. Plants have value in just existing, whether I'm looking at them or not. And I have windows with curtains and blinds open - because I don't need to try to keep the house at last summer's average of 36 Celsius (34 at night) instead of getting even hotter than that - to be able to see them. Not a huge fan of heatstroke and sunburn despite factor 50, which I'd get in the garden as it's a sun trap without lush vegetation and shade to make it more tolerable.

Kind of nice that I don't have to worry about literally being caught in a fire on my way to work, either (I travelled daily through an area that did that last year - missed being caught in it by sheer fluke). The garden and, by extension, the house, is safe from neighbours having bonfires or barbecues, too.

Sun's back out. Be back later once I've picked this morning's blackberries - they're so sweet and juicy this year, the crop is outstanding, thanks to the rain.

@NeverDropYourMooncup

its not either or though is it.

baking temperatures and fires or endless days of pissing rain in July and august.

what’s up with blues skies and 25degrees?! Nice, no?

Rockschooldropout · 02/08/2023 11:35

It’s actually starting to depress me .. it’s cold wet and gloomy .. the house is dark .. I’m having to tumble dry my washing and 13 year old dd is utterly fed up .. what makes it worse is thinking about winter .. last winter here was shocking . So cold .. I can’t bare the thought that we won’t st least have one last glimpse of summer before that hits but the forecast for the foreseeable is shocking 😞

I put the lamp on at 5pm yesterday. I feel quite down too.

For a few days, I suppose. As long as it's still cool in the mornings, the office is cool and the trip home is cool. And there's rain to ensure the plants and fauna don't suffer.

@NeverDropYourMooncup

it doesn’t need to be cool in the mornings and it doesn’t need to rain every day or every other day even. Plants are suffering now cos it’s too much rain.

It needs to be cool from my point of view, because me passing out on the bus is rather inconvenient for everybody else. I expect I'd feel differently if I drove a car everywhere with air conditioning, as it wouldn't matter to me what the weather was like outside.

Native plants and species seem to do rather well in this weather, though. It's as though it's natural.

Sounds perfect to me.

No idea why people keep claiming it’s either wildfires ‘caught in a fire on the way to work’ wtf? or pissing rain and therefore pissing rain is fine for 5 weeks.

We could just have some nice warm weather before the endless grey and cold autumn and winter starts again.

ginasevern · 02/08/2023 12:17

It's obvious that so many people in this country can't tolerate temperatures above 15 degrees, even for a few weeks (or even days it would seem) in the summer. Who the hell sweats profusely in that temperature? This hysteria about 30 degree heat is ridiculous. We hardly ever get anywhere near that and if we do it's only a very rare flash in the pan, even in the East of the country. My neighbours and colleagues all seem to prefer this endless cold wind, grey skies and lashing rain to beautiful sunshine, warmth and blue skies. So I'm clearly an oddball and I might as well resign myself to it.

Wimpeyspread · 02/08/2023 12:18

The bees, not so much, so pollination of plants is down and crops are suffering so we have higher food prices to look forward to and farmer's livelihoods are down. Your small crop of blackberries (I presume you've had more sun this year than we have here in Edinburgh if they are out - lucky you) is not of any real interest to anyone but you.

It's only 2nd August

IhaveanewTVnow · 02/08/2023 12:27

Acres and acres of land has been planted with Gracie vines in the SE. Costing £ms by Tattinger etc. if it keeps raining the harvest will be shit. They need some sun. Just like me. Vitamin D deficiency in the northern hemisphere is a massive concern. Yet again, I’m sat inside. I can’t afford 100% waterproof jackets or defect leather walking boots. An umbrella with the wind and sideways rain is no good. We are going to the cinema this afternoon. I can honestly say that I’ve never needed to go to the cinema on holiday in my 58 years of life just to get out of the rain. Thankfully is meercat day otherwise it would be too expensive.

im amazed at the peeps saying rain and 15 degrees is their ideal summer 😂you must be just disagreeing with us because you are bored 😂

angharadsgoat · 02/08/2023 12:35

I don't like the super hot days, and will go out in all weathers, but there is a limit. Selfishly, some of my plants would benefit from a little sun (my sunflowers for example) and after prolonged days of torrential and dull you do start to worry about the situation in general, including harvests.

It's meant to be cheering up for the last part of August and hopefully September will be a warm autumn start.

That's the thing. It isn't constant pissing rain here. It's pleasant, sometimes wet, sometimes not. I was more Thank Fuck for That, rather than What The Fuck about getting home just as the reports of the area I passed through going up in flames were on the news.

Your small crop of blackberries (I presume you've had more sun this year than we have here in Edinburgh if they are out - lucky you) is not of any real interest to anyone but you

A company wanting to make money making wine or it raining in Edinburgh is not of any real interest to me, either. My family haven't lived there for fifty years. Who knows - maybe the weather was one of the reasons my father felt the urge to move south, rather than just improved employment opportunities for qualified personnel?

IClaudine · 02/08/2023 12:50

It was dry here yesterday, now bucketing down again. It is shit. How can anyone enjoy this? My shrubs are all either dropped their flowers or turning brown. The wildflowers haven't had enough sun to really get going. The only thing doing well is the cow parsley.

The farmers must be having a nightmare.
