@SirVixofVixHall
@SpeckledlyHen

do you not like warm dry weather? It surely doesn’t have to be a choice between pissing rain and very hot weather

Yep. You can hate 30 plus degrees but surely see that consistent rain is pretty shit for summer.

ginasevern · 01/08/2023 10:12

I don't understand this endless drama about 30 plus degrees of heat. It rarely ever reaches that in the UK and if it does, it's only for maybe 3 days and then it's "run for the hills" headline bloody news. Where I am now it has rained non-stop for over a month and seldom got above18 most days. The wind has been incessant, it is cold and I'm fucked right off.

Sunsetandsunrise · 01/08/2023 10:23

I agree, I think some people have Stockholm syndrome and have convinced themselves they like the non-summer weather we have in the middle of “summer”

. Sun is shining where I am today and you can see everyone’s mood is lifted. Yesterday it was all rain and wind and got a bit cold.

Totally agree

so much drama when we do actually rarely have hot days

it seems like they can’t cope with sweating . I don’t know how they go on when they exercise! Sweating isn’t some terrible thing! Shower daily, wear anti perspirant and wear weather appropriate clothes - no issue

People die when temperatures rise

A 13 year girl died this week in Japan form heat stroke on her way home from school
when it was only 35

The weather is shite
Climate change makes white weather or all types more likely

SirChenjins · 01/08/2023 12:50

And they does when it gets cold

No-one on here is advocacy for 30-plus temperatures, just some dry, sunny, warm weather

SirChenjins · 01/08/2023 12:50

Advocating

ginasevern · 01/08/2023 13:49

@LuckySantangelo35 Thank you, I sometimes feel like a complete weirdo for actually wanting warmth and sun in the summer!

@SirChenjins I'll second that advocation (is that a word) lol.

SirChenjins · 01/08/2023 17:44

@ginasevern yes it is! Although it doesn’t look like it should be, does it 😂

frozendaisy · 01/08/2023 18:24

Radio4 news explanation: Stuck jet stream!
Sea too warm, arctic air too warm, jet stream stuck, also probably weakening, it might get stuck permanently.

Still it will keep the "cosy" lot happy if it does stick we will have winters like northern Canada then. And grey wet summers forever.

Might be time to invest in VitD supplements

ginasevern · 01/08/2023 18:25

@SirChenjins You just know advocation will crop up everywhere now.

IhaveanewTVnow · 01/08/2023 18:58

I’m sitting in a mobile caravan in the New Forest and it has rained everyday for the last week. Ok every now and again the sun comes out but there is certainly no sitting outside at 6:30pm watching the sunset! It’s freezing now too. The wind is blowing, it’s wet and grey but I suppose some will call it cosy😂. I don’t want 30 degrees and we rarely have that in the U.K. 23 degrees and dry would be fine!

People die when temperatures fall too.

Not an argument against a nice summer.

frozendaisy · 01/08/2023 19:16

Yeah a few weeks of dry and warm evening air.

Yes it's fine if you don't HAVE to do anything apart from walk a dog perhaps, yes rainy days when you can hunker down waiting for a good day are "cosy".

But if you have kids, or a job and a few precious days off each summer, spending it in jumpers inside is pants. When our kids were younger they loved mud and puddles, but they adored deep paddling pools, sprinklers and ice cream on a warm day much much more.

The disappointment is not about "well we had a good June" it's about not having a couple of weeks, evening if it's just hot evenings with the summertime squeaks and giggles that waterproof puddles just don't inspire, during the kid's summer holidays.

frozendaisy · 01/08/2023 19:26

And you can like other seasons, who doesn't like crunching over frosted grass, but I don't want to do it all year.

Who isn't blown away sometimes of the stunning colours of autumnal trees (and have looked if you could get to Canada and back in October half term to do the full autumnal colours on a mountainside by a lake), and the first true warmer spring day when you can fling the heavy coat to one side and walk lighter with pastel blossoms.

It's not about disliking other seasons. Right now it's about missing the summer one, with all it's joys.

I don't care about drying washing, I care about summertime spent outdoors with friends and family. It's a different type of socializing that helps carry some of us through the long dark winter months.

So yes many of us can live in the moment and just get on with it. But at the same time can be utterly pissed off that the things about summer that can be enjoyed are just not happening.

I even like January, it's cleansing.

Every winter, NHS under pressure with the flu season and winter accidents.

ohtobeme · 01/08/2023 20:01

People die in winter
But excess cold doesn't raise the excess death rate so much as bring it forward - ie if you get a increase in February then once March warms up the death rate falls below average

Summer deaths tend to be real excess

elm26 · 01/08/2023 20:19

I'm sick of walking my dog with a rain mac on, his muddy feet and putting the rain cover over DD pram.

I was so excited to have a baby born in May so that I could get out and about with her in sling and the dog, family & friends BBQs etc but this weather is never ending. Trying to dry my washing is the worst, baby has reflux so we're washing a lot!

I love all seasons for different reasons, winter for cosy dark frosty nights, autumn for the crunchy leaves, spring for the flowers etc and summer for the heat and fun you can have in the sun.

This rain is depressing.

@ohtobeme

right…
so does that mean we should have a shite summer where it pisses it down for days on end?
i don’t see the relevance

Me either and I think it's really crass to bring something like that up on this thread.

ohtobeme · 01/08/2023 21:24

No it doesn't mean we should rejoice in a shite summer

But climate change means that you will get ever more shite summers with extreme weather of all sorts

I think I am getting some joy out of saying "told you so"

SirChenjins · 02/08/2023 08:22

Why are you getting some joy out of that? Is being joyous in your 'told you so' going to change anything? Of course not. Try and be a nicer human being and extend some sympathy to people whose livelihoods are being wrecked by the weather and try and be concerned about the fact that food prices will increase, placing an extra burden on people who are already struggling financially.

What a truly fucked up attitude. Your pleased you get to tell people I told you so?

Solaire · 02/08/2023 08:35

I feel sorry for the kids - they’ve just broke up for the summer hols and it’s set to be crappy weather for the foreseeable.
