Stupid miserable British weather.

It’s flooding now in the next village so I’m guessing those people aren’t feeling ‘cosy’ 🙄.

TrollsRUs · 23/07/2023 12:55

I’m fed up too! Glad that some people have had decent weather this year, but it’s not been great where I am - north East Essex coast.

Spring never really “sprung”! Temperatures stayed cold for longer than usual with plenty of solid grey skies.

We then had some beautiful blue skies, but a bastard strong and biting wind for ages. Definitely still jeans and jumper weather. Trying to get stuff done in the garden was not pleasant due to the stupid wind.

Have had a few “perfect” summer days with blue sky, early-mid 20’s temps and a gentle breeze. However, these have been very spaced apart - the last one was just over two weeks ago. The rest of the time it has either been grey and muggy, grey and really windy, or grey and pissing it down with rain.

I am fed up of the grey! The only “positive” is that it’s been easy to pull out of my road as there have been no queues of cars tailing back to head to the beach. Usually, from Easter onwards, it’s often a pain. I think there’s been 2 occasions so far this year where it’s been solid traffic.

Just wish we could go out for a nice walk and ice cream, trip to the beach, catch up at the park.
Weathers so tough when you have young children!

We used to take children in wellies and raincoats for our usual walks even in this sort of weather. The beach might not follow the usual pattern of picnic on the beach, sandcastles, ice cream outdoors, but the walk is pleasant and there's still things to see and do; rock pooling for instance.

Absolute nonsense - a walk along the beach in the rain with the sand blowing in your face and the mist down so far you can’t see the horizon is not nearly as nice as being on the beach with the warmth on your face on a sunny or dry day that’s warm enough to go paddling, have a picnic, build sandcastles and so on. There are many months of this crap weather in the UK - let’s not pretend that it’s great having it for 11 months out of 12, it’s not.

yeah there’s nothing pleasant about a beach walk in this weather

Sunsetandsunrise · 23/07/2023 13:37

Some people are absolutely miserable😂 they really relish the idea of 12 months of grey and are calling it cosy 😆

Destinedforfakeness · 23/07/2023 14:03

I also feel like it come from a place of privlidge to be able to enjoy this weather. It's not particularly nice if you have to use public transport, live in a small house, gave little kids, can't afford indoor activities for the kids and have to work out of the house. But maybe a bit more pleasant if you drive from a to b, wfh and have teens who will entertain themselves for hours in their rooms.

ginghamstarfish · 22/07/2023 21:03

Don't know where everyone is, but in Cumbria we haven't been cold since the end of April! May and June were unusually hot and dry. Rain this week but still warm, humid.

I'm in NE and it's 12 degrees here. That's not warm. It's pissed down for weeks. With maybe a few days of a few hours of sun but normally mid day when I'm working.

Plus have decent wet weather gear, which isn't cheap especially for a family including growing DC

We're in NE too. Extra horrible as it's normally relatively dry here, even if cool.
Amazing that the normally rainy Cumbria is still warm!

I keep thinking that in recent years summer seems to have moved to May/June and it’s pretty much always over by now.

My mum has always said that the next of the weather happens before the school holidays start.
This year spring seemed dire though so I don't think that has helped. Often September is glorious so I'm holding out for that.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 23/07/2023 11:06

I agree that it’s more pleasant to run in cooler temperatures, but not in torrential rain and wind. I can’t run when it’s like this as I wear contact lenses and getting rain in my eyes is no good for them. Obviously, I can’t run in my glasses, I’d need wiper blades! Feeling very angsty and depressed today ☹️.

I went for a walk this morning and felt like my contact lenses were going to float out.

You're entitled to your opinion, but weather isn't like that wet for 11 months out of 12. And I stand by that rain and cold wouldn't, and doesn't, keep us indoors.

I'll also be going for my run later! Grin

SwanAnn · 23/07/2023 15:03

And I do like a nice sunny day at the beach, with picnics and the usual things, when we get the chance of it.

@SwanAnn

lol all I can say is you can’t be in the north east, cos if it’s you were there would be no way you’d be going out for a run

Rain doesn't keep me indoors. I'll spend at least a couple of hours looking after my horse, riding and walking the dogs but that doesn't mean dry, not windy weather isn't a lot more pleasant.

SwanAnn · 23/07/2023 15:10

To be fair I'm not! It's raining but not torrential at the moment and the breeze is refreshing rather than cold.

Madcats · 23/07/2023 15:28

Stealth boast; we've been sat outside in the garden for 30 minutes AND we cooked some food on the barbecue for lunch (okay a bit of that was under an umbrella).

When the sun peeks through for a nano second it is quite nice.

Daftasabroom · 23/07/2023 15:33

We've had the washing on the line since mid morning.

Or the North West. It hasn’t let up for a single second 🙈.

I walk my dog in all weathers - but in the UK I walk him in far more crap weather than I do in nice weather, and the nice weather is far preferable.

hellswelshy · 23/07/2023 16:06

South Wales here and a let up briefly after rain all day yesterday. We actually have sunshine, warmth - about 22 degrees, and managed to have a walk at the beach for a few hours. Honestly it was so blissful and really needed it. Back to rain tomorrow 😐

Here’s your monthly May summary for Cumbria . Most of May was around 15/16 degrees hardly hot. You had 3 days where the temperature maxed out at 20 which probably felt warm for the North. But can’t be described as a hot month.

June was hot. May was very dry.

It was never hot😂 it was warm at best and it rained as well.
