No wheat or barley? Works for me (shrugs in Coeliac).

@NeverDropYourMooncup

just so long as you’re ok eh? 🤷‍♀️

Hell, we Coeliacs don't get many breaks in life...😄

I keep thinking that in recent years summer seems to have moved to May/June and it’s pretty much always over by now.

Me too.

I think the weather is almost always more reliable in May and June, to the extent we used to take our UK summer holiday in the June half term as it's now effectively autumn by early to mid August.

We'd then get a Spanish villa in August!

I feel sorry for school kids with their six weeks of dubious weather, bar the odd outlier like last year.

Destinedforfakeness · 22/07/2023 13:23

The replies on here are fucking bonkers. People telling other what weather they had when they don't even know where they live is wild. Getting weirdly aggressive about it the first place is also bonkers. It's also kinda wild so many people are claiming a wet summer is absolutely fine with them. I don't agrees but I'm not going to get all butt hurt about it. Wildness.

Mumsnet is a different world!

Westfacing · 22/07/2023 13:25

It's 18C, drizzling, windy and grey skies in London right now. The better-off can go to the cinema, bowling, indoor play, etc but I feel sorry for young families on low incomes - what are they to do for the next few weeks of the same weather?

If it's sunny and pleasantly warm you can take sandwiches and drinks to the park, beach, playground, wherever your local open space is and spend a few hours sitting around, kicking a ball, having a walk etc. Yes I know you can play footie in the rain and splash in puddles but it can't be easy to do this day in day out.

Ah.. we haven’t had much. We had a bad day last Saturday and it’s not rained since. I’m south, about 30 mins from Bournemouth.

You must be similar to me. Rain today though.

WoolyMammoth55 · 22/07/2023 13:30

I feel awful for all the friends of my DS who spent ££££s on staycation rentals by the seaside for this first week of the summer holidays and are going to get 18 degrees and rain pretty much every day... :(

I'd like sunny weather to coincide with the school holidays otherwise the poor kids get no summer fun at all (after sweating through the May/June heatwave in stuffy classrooms!)

Current weather is a bummer and I hope it perks up before September.

DahliaMacNamara · 22/07/2023 13:33

14 degrees here right now. That feels like a massive pisstake for late July, frankly. I drove along a route popular with holidaymakers this morning, and felt so sorry for all the families heading south in the driving rain with their caravans.
Personally, I'd take this over sweating around in 30 plus degrees, but then I'm not staring out at acres of other caravans longing to feel the sun on my back and warm sand between my toes.

I keep thinking that in recent years summer seems to have moved to May/June and it’s pretty much always over by now.

Not sure this is true. I work away from home (still in UK) for a few weeks every year in July and August and have memories of walks in parks with scorched lawns and sitting outside with colleagues and being unable to sleep at night in the heat of the hotel rooms. It has been baking in August too at times.

Fordian · 22/07/2023 13:37

I think we've been fortunate compared to others in the UK. I live in southern Hants and the weather hasn't been too bad, the odd mid to higher 20s and sunshine, a few days of really gusty wind last week; and it's grey and raining right now; however, looking at the weather forecast, I can see that huge swathes of the country north of here have had relentlessly bad weather over the past couple of months.

It's miserable if you have washing to do and kids to entertain, you have my sympathy.

I have to say I’m really enjoying this summer so far. Much nicer temperatures at low 20’s than the mid 30’s we had last year. I found that unbearable.

Low 20s? It's 15 here, just climbed up from 13 when you posted this, NE coast

LuckySantangelo35 · 22/07/2023 13:39

Ah I want last years mid 30 temps back!
fingers crossed 🤞

Hotflushesinthesunfun · 22/07/2023 13:39

I’m in Yorkshire and it’s cold. I’m in my winter snuggle clothes and wondering if I can justify putting the fire on. It’s rained every day for weeks, most days for most of the day. It’s rained all day today and doesn’t look like clearing.

We are going camping this week, in the Lakes. What should of been a week of swimming in lakes and exploring waterfalls is now looking a disaster. I can’t afford a week of indoor activities, and the thought of wet clothes, wet tent etc is horrid.

BeginningToLookALotLike · 22/07/2023 13:40

Is it low 20's anywhere in the UK this afternoon?

I'd settle for low to mid 20s. I don't think that's particularly unreasonable of me but apparently the weather gods think it's a unachievable request.

Spookyseasonmum · 22/07/2023 13:42

I’m on the Derbyshire border and have had heavy rain, thunderstorms and grey skies for a good couple of weeks now. I’m mostly enjoying it as I hate the heat and sunshine, but I would like to be able to hang laundry outside and do more gardening

RobertsRadio · 22/07/2023 13:42

OK, IT'S ALL MY FAULT. I admit it was all me.

In June I was very hot and so for the first time ever in my long life I purchased a Pedestal Fan. I used it once and that doomed it for the rest of you, it's been cold and wet ever since. I'm very, very sorry that my selfish action means summer in the U.K. had now been cancelled. (Hangs head in shame).

MySoCalledWife · 22/07/2023 13:42

This thread is full of nonsense
it is NOT always rainy in the summer hols, we had a massive heat wave in England in August last year 😁

the weather is and always has been a bit unsettled and unpredictable on the British Isles

truth: rainy summers suck!

It’s 12 here with 97% rain, tomorrow says similar. Monday is looking great, down to only 67% chance of rain and 16%

SeatonCarew · 22/07/2023 13:22

Hell, we Coeliacs don't get many breaks in life...😄

We've got to take the positives where we can get them. Maybe fewer products will be cross contaminated or adulterated with the poison protein to increase profits that way!

And considering I have to pay £4-5 for an imitation of bread or pasta, I'm failing at feeling much sympathy for people who might have to pay £2 for theirs. Of course, the actual result will be that mine will go up to maintain the profit, but oh well.

Sympathies. It's 15 here but 12 must feel like autumn has arrived.
