When I took DD to school last week it was 10 degrees and hit the glorious highs of 16. It's been raining constantly here and the skies are relentlessly grey.

Just a few days of blue sky would be nice.

We're in the North East.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 22/07/2023 12:26

I much prefer this weather. The heat last year was unbearable and I was getting fed up of it in June too! This suits me just fine. I feel sorry for the people across Europe having to deal with the awful high temperatures.

lovescats3 · 22/07/2023 12:26

The planet is on fire, it's climate change, be thankful we are not getting high temperatures here

EffortlessDesmond · 22/07/2023 12:26

We still have a hosepipe ban, left over from last year, in Cornwall.

lovescats3 · 22/07/2023 12:28

This June in UK was hottest ever on record it's frightening when you look at what's going on in terms of the heat and floods across the world in the news ATM look at BBC website

frozendaisy · 22/07/2023 12:29

We have tickets for outdoor stuff tomorrow where you would expect to sit around in parks under dappled shade being entertained.

But hey forget all that fun we can stay in doing housework instead, except laundry on the line we can't do that.

Woo how fucking exciting.

So because other parts of the world are suffering in extremely warm temperatures we shouldn't complain and instead be thankful because it's pissing it down and cold. That's like the argument that you can't complain you don't like the food you've been served because some people in the world have no food.

The two are not comparable. Me not moaning about the crap weather isn't going to help those enduring the heat.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 22/07/2023 11:42

Did you conveniently forget that the whole of the UK does not have the same weather?

Exactly, I'm in London (supposed to be a warmer part of the country) and had to go home from an afternoon out in late May to pick up a winter coat. Admittedly I'm a cold person but that's ridiculous. The start of June was the same.

Bumblebee2022 · 22/07/2023 12:31

Raining here in the midlands, again. I’m refusing to put the tumble dryer on, so again the dehumidifier is on trying to dry the washing. The rain feels relentless, although I did get a load of washing dry on the line yesterday, but it did get rained on half way through, I just braved it out and left it on the line. It’s definitely rained more days than it hasn’t here and so many events round here have either had to be cancelled (outdoor plays/concerts/fetes) or have had their numbers (therefore profit) really affected.

LittleBearPad · 22/07/2023 12:32

LaurieFairyCake · 22/07/2023 12:16

I'm in London and have been wearing a t shirt or thin dress for months! We're only getting very light showers

Ditto.

A couple of complete downpours but the rest has been showers that end quickly. The rest of the time it’s fine. It’s not cold, it’s not hot

@lovescats3

ill never be thankful for 14 degree weather in July

borntobequiet · 22/07/2023 12:34

It often is at this time in July. I know because it’s my birthday today. Two out of three years it’s wet, on average. This year it’s cold and windy as well, boo hoo.

lifeturnsonadime · 22/07/2023 12:35

It not just test match cricket that is affected.

The last 3 Saturday league matches have been rain affected, to have this many consecutive weeks abandoned due to poor weather is unusual.

lovescats3 · 22/07/2023 12:36

Moonsun 88 - try getting your news from a reliable source not social media like Facebook etc

LibertyLily · 22/07/2023 12:38

June was lovely here (SW Wales) - not too hot, but perfect for sitting outside/eating outdoors etc.

Since July it's been absolutely crap - only a couple of dry, sunny days and they've not been particularly warm. Yesterday was dry with a bit of sunshine but when I went shopping I was so chilly I wore a (thin) jumper under my summer dress and socks as my feet were cold. Indoors - admittedly we have an old stone house with 2' thick walls - I'm still wearing three jumpers and using a hot water bottle in bed. Two weeks back it was so bad we lit the living room wood burner!

We moved here from England five years ago and this is the worst it's been. I regularly compare the weather forecast with where our family live (south coast of England) - it's been much better there recently, in fact a family member was complaining about the lack of rain this week. I don't like it scorchio but can't wait to move back tbh.

dizzydizzydizzy · 22/07/2023 12:39

Given the choice between 19C here in London and the dangerous heatwave in the rest of Europe, I'll take the 19C. Although yeah, I'd rather it were 25 and sunny.

Bonfire23 · 22/07/2023 12:42

Just turned the dehumidifier on to try and dry some washing
82 humidity in my spare room because it's so damn wet everywhere

slavetothekittens · 22/07/2023 09:22

North West here and rain has been relentless. Had a dry day on Thursday then back to rain, rain and more rain. Too wet to sort the garden out, too wet to go anywhere. Just hoping summer decided to come back soon.

Yep!
West Yorkshire here.
I think we've had 2 dry days out of the last month.
Other days it's either been relentless rain or 15 minutes of sun inbetween the heavy showers.
For caught in a biblical storm last weekend. Had to pull over. Hailstorm, lighting and I was aquaplaning within 5 minutes of it starting!!

L1ttledrummergirl · 22/07/2023 12:44

Where i am in England, this is normal weather for this time of year.
Growing up, I would joke that it would be gloriously sunny through June, we would eat our lunch on the school fields and love being outside. My birthday is at the end of June and it would rain on or around that date, and continue to rain for up to five weeks. Then, if we were lucky, it would be hot (over 30°c) for a few weeks rather than warm.

For me, the years where this raining period is missing is the anomaly. There is a saying about St Swithins day in July being a guide to forthcoming weather because of people's experiences in history, these shouldn't be discounted in my opinion.

Enfys1982 · 22/07/2023 12:47

Personally I think the school holidays in England and Wales are too late in the year and would prefer it if we adopted the Scottish holidays. Breaking up in June and going back in August. The weather is always better in June and early July.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 22/07/2023 12:47

TiredArse · 22/07/2023 09:13

But it never stops raining. Cooler would be ok, but it’s just relentless fucking rain.

Haven’t had any washing out in weeks.

Where I live in southwest England, it only rained about three times in the whole of May and June.

I'm loving the wet grey weather.

Fwiw it has rained every single day of the Scottish school holidays so far. We got absolutely drenched leaving the building on the last day of term

IfYouDontAsk · 22/07/2023 09:13

I keep thinking that in recent years summer seems to have moved to May/June and it’s pretty much always over by now.

May was rubbish weather too

Whatswhatwhichiswhich · 22/07/2023 12:52

We’ve had rain every day for weeks, and when theres not rain there is wind and dark grey clouds.

I’m trying not to complain, I don’t like excessive heat. I prefer it when the temps are high teens/low 20s and at least some cloud coverage (lupus and sun don’t mix), but this relentless rain is bringing my mood down. Feels more like late autumn/early winter and seasonal affective disorder is shit when you don’t get enough sun in the summer.

ginasevern · 22/07/2023 12:52

Why are there so many people on here that love cold weather. It's summer ffs, which only lasts about 6 weeks if we're lucky. It's been non-stop torrential rain here and an endless battering wind for a whole month with temperatures barely rising above 16 degrees. I'm sick of wearing more or less the same clothes I'd wear in winter. I want to wear shorts, T shirts and flip flops. I also don't understand normal, healthy people who literally drag themselves around like dying swans in 20 degree heat in this country but then happily go to Spain or Turkey for their summer holidays. What's that all about? The winters are so long in this country, how can anyone object to, say, 22 degrees, blue skies and sunshine? (obviously excluding anyone with medical conditions or pregnant).
