I’ve recently joined a local gym having spent a lot of my adult life trying to avoid the place. Don’t have much social media so didn’t realise the new “trend” is to wear scrunch bum shorts and sports bras

Honestly so many females wearing this in my gym. I felt like the odd one out wearing a black tshirt and some old black leggings.

Ive always done running so in okay shape but I felt out of place in what I was wearing having just started. Maybe I just need to pay less attention to others 😂

Blimey what a nasty, nasty, horrible thread!

Wear what the fuck you like at the gym. Women being bitchy about women. Nice!

Most gym's are open and friendly places not for fucking Judgy McJudgy mumsnetters.

It's threads like this that make want me to leave mumnset. What is wrong with some of you, so angry and bitter? Are your lives that crap you have to be vile about young girls who are in their prime?

I'm in my late 50's and have been going to gyms regularly for over 30 years. I'm 3 stone overweight and don't wear trendy gym kit.

But I love seeing the young fresh faced kids, with their long white socks pulled up to their knees, their enthusiasm and passion for life!

Trends come and go, leg warm warmers, all in one gym kit with the thongs up yer bum! See attached pic!

Blimey ladies. Such a sad sad thread.

@RainyWeekend My DSD looks amazing in her skimpy gym wear.

Ok, I’m going to say it and then run & hide with my hard hat on…..
I really don’t get the juxtaposition of women shouting loudly “don’t sexualise/ objectify me” and then dressing in not very much/provocatively🤷🏼‍♀️. I mean, dress how you want but don’t complain about the reactions you get to it when you know that’ll be the end result!
@Flippertyfeckerty

Wow possibly the worst thing I've ever read on this site!!

Oh, this old bollocks again.

99.99% of the time, what they are actually saying is "don't send me dick pics" and "don't make disgusting and offensive comments". A woman posting pictures of herself in not much doesn't make it OK for men to talk openly to her about smashing her back doors in, licking her pussy, coming on her tits and the rest of it.

Yes, that kind of egregiously offensive stuff that pained me to type out is what they're talking about. If you still "don't get" it because SHE'S WEARING A BIKINI, just trust me, it's not OK and there's no contradiction in posting a sexy pic and not wanting to be spoken to like that. It's totally unacceptable and what she's wearing is irrelevant.

Explain

Dressing as they want to without being harassed by men.

Taking photos and sharing them online, not other people taking photos of them and sharing them online.

You know, basic stuff. 🙄

Coffeetree · 21/07/2023 10:49

Well I sometimes wear a crop top/sports bra with leggings to work out, especially in yoga because its easier to twist around etc. Some people wear less, some people wear more. It honestly never occurred to me that someone would notice and/or be outraged. Maybe calm down and have a protein bar?

Some posters are in a right mood this morning.

Another delightful trope.

Women being in a mood. Perhaps they are on the blob, LOL. Or menopausal.

I never said women, I said posters.

I haven't said anything offensive.

I said not ALL women don't not want to be sexualised. Only fans as an example.

I agree women should be able to wear what they want and not be harrassed.

You are totally taking my post the wrong way.

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 21/07/2023 10:54

@Catspyjamas17 I point out in my DH is in a mood and he doesn't getting fucking periods. Wind your neck in.

caringcarer · 21/07/2023 11:11

They are a bit too revealing for me. I'd never wear them. Don't feel pressured to wear them OP if you don't want too.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 21/07/2023 11:14

So many people on this thread judging and bitching about other women for what they choose to wear.

A bit pathetic to be honest.

Hopefully most of us don't give a shit about what you think about our clothes!

FortheBeautyoftheEarth · 21/07/2023 11:19

I mean live and let live and all that but I HATE them. I don't think they look nice...even if you have a good bum. Some people are weird.

AllTheChaos · 21/07/2023 11:37

I actually bought a pair of the dark coloured honeycomb ones to try for a giggle after a previous thread as I was so shocked by them, and was amazed at how comfy they were! I have no bum though, and they were dark so wouldn’t have shown the ‘scrunch’ bit even if I had actual buttocks to delineate (which I don’t these days alas). I wouldn’t have the moxie to wear them out though, but they’ll do for an extra layer under trousers in the winter.

ManateeFair · 21/07/2023 11:46

As someone who gets extremely sweaty and loathes feeling too hot and encumbered by layers, I would actually love the confidence to work out in booty shorts and a sports bra, so I say bravo to your fellow gym goers!

Fashions in everything come and go. Gym kit is no exception. But honestly, just wear what you're comfortable with and don't worry about it. Most people won't care in the slightest what you're wearing.

I imagine it maybe also depends on what gym you use and when, as I expect the clientele varies from place to place - I'm more a runner than a gym-goer so I don't have vast experience of gyms, but the one I go to usually has a real variety of ages, body types and gym wear. Definitely some scrunch-bums and bras, but also plenty of leggings and baggy t-shirts. Also there's a big Orthodox Jewish community here so there's frequently women working out in long sleeved sports tops, leggings and knee-length skirts. Same with runners in the park.

I wear black cropped leggings, a sports bra and long-line vest tops that I've cut myself from old oversize band/horror t-shirts :)

FrozenGhost · 21/07/2023 12:37

I'm fat and not attractive at all, nor do I think I am, but I've realised wearing a sports bra is really comfortable and keeps you cool. I wear high waisted leggings as I like the feeling of my fat being held firmly - like a comfortable bra for my legs and tummy. I'd hate to be flopping around in tracksuit pants.

Tbh if I saw someone wearing baggy tracksuit pants and a baggy t shirt, I'd feel a bit sorry for them. I'd assume they are embarrassed about their body and trying to hide it. I know it isn't about cost as a pair of basic lycra leggings costs a few pounds.

There's nothing wrong with wearing that, of course, but there's also nothing wrong with the latest active wear. Lots of people love the gym and they love fashion, no surprise they combine the two.

lookingforMolly · 21/07/2023 12:49

I just wear my grey patterned gym leggings and a black tshirt.

What I really don't understand are the women of all ages who don't tie back their long hair!! You cant properly work out with your hair / hair extensions getting all sweaty & greasy although somehow their hair NEVER looks greasy.
They all have fillers, tans, tits out with tiny waists at my gym.
They never look hot red or sweaty why??

The only reason I go there is to avoid the antisocial kids at the local council leisure centre.

Miajk · 21/07/2023 12:49

WhatADrabCarpet · 20/07/2023 23:08

Scrunch bum legging/shorts sexualise women.
Why on Earth do they wear them?
Women complain that they don't want to be sexualised.

And most women that wear them have seriously wibbly bums anyway.

What a nasty comment.

A lot of bitterness on this thread. So much internalised misogyny.

lemmein · 21/07/2023 12:50

Women being bitchy about women. Nice!

I don't understand comments like this. It's the style of the shorts that people are criticising, not the bodies in them!

Crikey.

Coffeetree · 21/07/2023 13:29

But the looking and staring and judging is only coming from losers? So who cares?

Coffeetree · 21/07/2023 13:30

But okay, I'll prepare to be judged by the losers. Thanks for the tip.
