The joy of a new notebook

I'm surely not the only one? I was telling dh that I've almost finished my current notebook and that it's exciting because it means I get to start my new one. It's a beautiful notebook - it has a gold, shiny cover - and I've got the nice gold shimmer ink to use in it.

When I said all this, Dh looked at me like I've got two heads, as did one of my dc (the other has a better understanding of all things stationery).

Light-hearted question obviously, but do you get excited by new notebooks?

Thank you @LaChatte .

Oh gosh, I feel like my life is so boring as I don't think I could fill a double page per week as a planner (wake up, work from home, feed and bathe kids, sleep, repeat).

I do use a notebook for work stuff but just use an ugly one provided by work. Maybe I should start using a nicer one, it might inspire me!

I had a quick Google of bullet journalling and I do love anything that can help me be more organised so I'll give it a go!
I already make lists for shopping, meal planning, to-dos but somehow always end up just using scraps of paper.

The planner part is for teaching (I don't use it at all during the holidays) ! You should definitely start using a nice notebook for work stuff, it actually makes quite a difference imo!

Using up scraps paper of is good too , but my Husband gets given them to use . He's not to bothered about nice notebooks 😁

Yea lol my dh takes an old envelope or the inside of a torn up box whereas I bought some fancy post-it notes for my shopping lists!

In my Rhodia dotted spiral bound book I do calligraphy practise. I don't write anything particular, just my name and those of my family or random quotes and song lyrics that come into my head.

Such beautiful script - definitely justifies the lovely notebooks and ink!!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/08/2023 18:06

That's lovely, @MyMachineAndMe

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 01/08/2023 19:30

@MyMachineAndMe Your writing is indeed beautiful , my new notebook arrived today and has been given much love today 😍.
Now then , I think I also need a fountain pen at some point .😁

MyMachineAndMe · 01/08/2023 19:56

Thank you 🙏 My actual, everyday handwriting is not that fancy!

So I finally got replacement ink for my fountain pen today. Just cartridges but I did get the Parker branded ones for it.

It's been empty for so long I've been trying to get the ink to flow as I think the old stuff had dried in a bit.

But that's not the problem now. The end with the nib I put down and now can't find it. I can't see it anywhere from where I was sitting and I've checked the whole room and it's just gone. I've got an open ink cartridge, the lid and the longer end part. Just not the nib part. Where the hell has it gone?

Tarkan · 08/08/2023 15:58

Found it! I'd put it on top of a notebook and it had rolled under a table into a weird corner.

I'm just having fun getting it to flow now but I think it's almost there now. It's cutting out occasionally but definitely getting better the more I write.

Tarkan · 08/08/2023 16:09

My normal-ish handwriting when I'm not scribbling really quickly. Even this I go too fast with at times.

I read that soaking the pen in warm, soapy water and then rinsing and drying it will get rid of dried up ink. I do this to mine every now and again and yes, the borrowers come and take my things as I do so too!

That's nice, fancy writing and the main thing is that you can read it and it feels comfortable when you write for longer periods of time.

Not going to lie, I may have ended up with an inky tongue at one point. Blush I'll try the soapy water if I need to do it in the future though.

I tend to write with Pilot Frixion or Uniball Eye pens so it's just getting used to the weight and the nicer feel of my fountain pen again.

I did eye up some notebooks today but I only had cash on me and not enough to buy one. I may have stroked a couple though. Grin

MyMachineAndMe · 08/08/2023 20:16

Dc2 likes pens and quirky stationery so we went to Meadowhell at the weekend. Didn't like Smiggle, thankfully, but did buy a strange, green plastic covered book and pen and eyed up some funky-coloured ink.

I had to come back to share this. I found these beauties half price in our local WH Smith today. I got the front grey one for £6.99. I love the magnetic closure and apparently refillable.

Oops it attached the wrong pic.

Tarkan · 16/08/2023 15:59

I can't see my photos other than the close up. App is such a pain with photos.

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 16/08/2023 16:08

That is a lovely notebook , I think I saw that one the other day . Like the magnetic closure , ideal for keeping in bag .

Tarkan · 16/08/2023 16:54

That's what I was thinking with the magnet, less likely to have bent pages if it's in my bag I would hope! They have a great range of them all half price which is what my other photo was but it just didn't want to post. I had another one in my hand when I saw these, hardback green cover with embossed leaves over it. I thought it was cute but as soon as I saw these ones it went back.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/08/2023 17:28

@Tarkan That looks good.

I'vemuyst ordered a new Lamy Safari (personalised) and one of these

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/08/2023 17:37

just

Tarkan · 16/08/2023 17:56

Oh I love the colour of that!

I don't know if my pic will work this time but I'm loving the ivory pages too. Nice and easy on the eyes. I've only gone and mislaid my fountain pen though so no writing in it yet.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/08/2023 18:02

Love those creamy, delicious pages.

MyMachineAndMe · 16/08/2023 21:00

Ivory, cream or off-white paper is so much nicer than the brilliant white. It seems easier to read the words too, though I'm not sure why.

We had a family day out today and went into a historic printers' shop and talked to the man working there about the letters and inks and fonts and paper. I can't remember much of it because my memory is terrible but it was interesting to look and see.

Ahhh I'm desperate to come and catch up, had a really stupid few weeks - but coming back to some people's questions about what washi tape is for, I know this isn't the litter tray but I think I found the answer and I thought I might make some of you smile 😂 (photo hopefully attached) I am yet to get this particular roll back, she's obsessed with it and keeps chasing it round the kitchen.

Definitely need some stationery shopping therapy so coming back at the weekend to read through and make notes 😁

That's hilarious and what a cute kitty. We have a Shih Tzu who eats sellotape if we're not careful. He'll run around with a roll in his mouth then hide away with it. There's nothing worse than going to wrap a gift and having the tape break because of little teethmarks through it.
