Reassurance re facial injury

CrazilySensitive · 17/07/2023 14:28

I took a bit of a tumble yesterday, and have ended up with several gashes on my face, as well as other injuries. Been stitched up. I honestly look horrendous at the moment. I'm pretty devastated.
Has anyone had facial injuries and totally healed?

Ah, thank you. That's reassuring. Did you take arnica orally or topically?

I managed to split my forehead open falling up stairs. 14 stitches. It was very angry for a while, I used kelocote on it and am very strict with spf. You can't see it now at all, it took maybe a year to get better and longer to totally go.

Thank you. Yes, I'll be super careful in terms of sun exposure. That's reassuring. A year and a bit more, is actually not that long...

Yes, me. I fell flat on my face on a concrete surface last September.
Fractured my nose which bled like crazy, took hours in A&E to stop, ended up with two black eyes, nose swollen to twice the size, gashed & bruised forehead & cheekbone, split lip….could have successfully auditioned for a horror film.
Took a couple of months to heal, just a few bruises lingered for a couple more months but then you’d never know I’d looked so bad, all back to normal.

Gosh, poor you. That sounds traumatic. But so wonderful that you returned to normal eventually, and it sounds very hopeful. At the moment I'm distressed by my reflection in the mirror, but hopefully in time...

I got my front gate bitten by a dog. Had the cheek and 2 parts of my nose stitched back. Believe it or not all you can see from it is a slight scar now on the side of my nose. At the time I looked like a hells angel lol

FelicityBeedle · 17/07/2023 17:54

A friend had a massive gash on her forehead from falling on a door knob. Silicon scar tape whenever you’re not in public is amazing

Amazing. The human body is incredible. It sounds like time and patience are my friends here. Thank you. You're helping prevent full-blown depression from kicking in for me

Ah, that sounds interesting. I'll look into it. I assume that's for once the stitches are out etc?

I fell down a pot hole last year in the dark I was a mess for ages
I didn't look in the mirror for a long time and kept my hair all off my face as it would catch any bit of skin
Time will heal give it time
Sending lots of love xx

Thank you. I'm finding it all so difficult to cope with. The swelling is awful. I'm not generally accident prone, so never had anything like this before. I'll keep clinging to hope

I sliced my cheek in half it was horrendous. You am barely see anything now 10 yrs later keep out of the sun while it's healing. Use bio oil

Clymene · 17/07/2023 19:06

Yes. Split my nose down the middle, stitches above my brow really bad grazing after being knocked off my bike. I can still see faint scars but only because I know they're there. No one else notices.

Thanks. I've heard about Bio oil. I've also heard that rosehip oil is good. Stitches fresh today. Should I wait till they're out?

Thanks. Yes, mine was a bike accident too. The windy weather did for me. Really regretting going out 😔
Good to know you healed so well

I put my tooth through just above my top lip and it got really badly infected too as the hospital wouldn’t stitch it. It’s healed well but has left. Bit of a scar, but I honestly never even notice it now

Marisquita · 17/07/2023 19:54

You poor thing!

I had a bit of my temple the size of a 50p piece removed a few years ago due to skin cancer. You’d have to look very carefully now to know anything had happened. I’m a bad (hypertrophic) scarrer elsewhere on my body, but my face mended really well.

Hope you feel much better soon.

MamaNell · 17/07/2023 19:59

I burnt my face with hot soup (I'm a chef and it splattered)
Burn the size of a 50p on my forehead. Made a big scab. I used Vitamin E oil on it twice a day and haven't scarred at all. And I have very sensitive skin and loads of scars on my arms which I didn't treat so carefully

Gosh, you really went through it. Glad not much of a scar, and that you've made your peace with it

Thank you for your kind words. That's also really helpful. Maybe the face is better at healing. Hope so 🙏

I took photos of my face (for insurance) and I look SO awful. Like I've been really badly beaten up and that was after I'd been to the doctor. I found them in a box the other day and my kids were really shocked!

Be kind to yourself. It's a massive shock physically and emotionally. Flowers

CrazilySensitive · 17/07/2023 21:42

@Clymene thank you. Yes, I'm still hugely in shock. Keep thinking it's a bad dream.

OP posts:
Junebug22 · 17/07/2023 22:14

Oh poor you! It’s a horrible shock isn’t it? I split my forehead open and above my top lip in a fall. Ended up with two huge black eyes too. I didn’t get either cut stitched when in hindsight I should have. My sister is a nurse so she butterfly taped me up a couple days later -after giving me a right good talking to as she was also certain I’d been concussed! Despite the lack of intervention, both cuts healed pretty well with time. There’s no scar on my forehead now and the scar above my lip has faded a lot over the years. You wouldn’t notice it if I didn’t point it out and stand in certain lighting. I looked dreadful for a few weeks though due to the bruising, swelling, cuts and tape.

I used keloid plasters once the cuts had healed and then scar reduction oil religiously. You have to massage it in. I did it every night and I do think it made a difference.

Hope you feel better soon -be kind to yourself!
