Reassurance re facial injury

CrazilySensitive · 17/07/2023 14:28

I took a bit of a tumble yesterday, and have ended up with several gashes on my face, as well as other injuries. Been stitched up. I honestly look horrendous at the moment. I'm pretty devastated.
Has anyone had facial injuries and totally healed?

OP please reach out to your GP, work counselling service or a private therapist, in a bit concerned that if you're unfortunate enough to have an incident on the future you're going to end up trying to refuse proper medical care because of this experience.

I think you know logically that the stitches were the right decision, and you know your phobia is (a bit) irrational (like mine of spiders!) But if you don't get some help out could end up being more serious for you. Best of luck x

Thank you. Yes, you're right about future events. I was actually thinking earlier that I'd rather empty my entire bank account (not much unfortunately!) and more besides, even have my life shortened, than have a medical intervention like that again. I usually just avoid my GP. But because I was brought into A&E in a state of shock, I got caught on a kind of treadmill, and agreed to medical stuff I'd usually decline. My current depression has arisen from a kind of guilt that I allowed such things to be done to me. That I betrayed my phobia briefly. Hard to explain. I feel sick when I think about it. I think I might actually be in the midst of a serious crisis, as I'm starting to entertain some worrying thoughts. I just have to keep breathing, and trust it will pass... Thank you for your kindness

CrazilySensitive if you're entertaining worrying thoughts then it's definitely time for a serious talk with a professional as this has gone way beyond being physically injured.

Something I read earlier struck a chord with the way you say you're thinking at the moment. It was this:

“Even if we give it the benefit of the doubt and assume everything you’re telling yourself is true, why do you keep repeating it to yourself over and over again? Do you do that with anything else you know is true?"

It sounds like you're backing yourself into a corner with no way out.

You're right. I'm stuck in a loop of thinking. I agree that I need some mental health support. I'll look into it...

Good luck with it @CrazilySensitive. You've identified what needs doing and that's a positive start. Go for it.

I'm pleased you've recognised you have a phobia and need help.
Can you try and turn your thinking around. Since you know logically your health anxiety is irrational (even though very powerful) can you be proud of yourself for overcoming it even for a short while when you really needed to, instead of feeling like you "betrayed " it.
I'm actually really impressed that someone with such a severe phobia could be brave enough to get stitches in an already scarey situation. That's a step forward if you think about it?

Thank you. That's one way of seeing it. I'm still processing it for sure...

Hi all , I was hit in the cheekbone not broken but now have a dimple (4 weeks ) on will this heal ?

BodgerBadgerMashup · 13/12/2023 21:33

I guess it's hard to say isn't it? If you didn't break anything then it sounds like a soft tissue injury, and depending on how bad they usually recover ok eventually, though can take quite some time. I think you might have to wait and see in afraid!
did you have lots of swelling and bruising at the time? Did you have an x ray to confirm no breaks? Good luck!

CrazilySensitive · 21/12/2023 08:57

Just to give everyone an update, I am now almost fully recovered.

What a great update, are you feeling better about it all now?

Thank you. Yes. I actually still don't think the medical stuff was all necessary. But I've made my peace with it. Somehow I feel separated from the experience now. You have to look really closely to see the scars. Though it was the psychological stuff rather than the physical stuff that became a problem in the end. I fell into a deep depression. But mostly out of it now. Thank you for your kindness. Take care 😊
