Reassurance re facial injury

I took a bit of a tumble yesterday, and have ended up with several gashes on my face, as well as other injuries. Been stitched up. I honestly look horrendous at the moment. I'm pretty devastated.
Has anyone had facial injuries and totally healed?

Oh @Vegemiteandhoneyontoast your accident sounds horrendous. But so amazing that you pulled through so well.

Funnily enough, I put some aloe vera from a plant in the bathroom on the bruises (not the stitches) this morning, and it definitely seemed to help. It's only a tiny plant, so I'll try to get another bigger one. I'm inspired to hear it worked so well for you.

Fresh Aloe vera gel is amazing stuff.

I have a few plants and use them mainly for burns, cuts and insect bites. A few years ago, I splashed hot oil on my wrist and the skin started to blister straight away, so I cut a stem and slathered the burn with gel, repeating a few times over the day, and by the next morning, you could hardly tell anything had happened. Didn't even have any residual tenderness. I've heard similar from others. No idea how it works but the gel does promote healing.

Husband got bit on the nose by a dog, it pissed blood everywhere, it went through his septum and the tip of his nose. All you can see is if he's stood above you and to the side, is a slight dip in his nose.

Gosh, that's amazing. The human body is a marvel

@Vegemiteandhoneyontoast you've inspired me to stock up on more aloe vera plants

If you're near Oxford you can have one of mine.

JustFrustrated · 18/07/2023 16:45

I recommend getting a silver spray, it helps heal. And also a scar gel.

Bless you. Thank you. Alas not that near Oxford. But I greatly appreciate the kind offer. I'll ask around locally

Thank you. I think I've got some colloidal silver somewhere. If not, I'll get some. I'll research scar gels. The stitches are coming out in a few days. Once that happens, it's operation scar prevention!

My last scars, with stitches, I covered with brown micropore tape to keep the wounds smooth.

Scar gel as soon as the stitches come out.

Solution for Scars or Rio Rosa Mosqueta
Pure Chilean Rosehip Oil.

Boiling water from a kettle and no scars. Also flamzine (sp) silver cream is magic

CrazilySensitive · 18/07/2023 17:00

@JustFrustrated thanks. Is there any particular scar gel you'd recommend?

OP posts:
CrazilySensitive · 18/07/2023 17:12

@SlayB funnily enough, I ordered some Neals Yard rosehip oil this morning. Hopefully that's similar?
I'll check out the silver cream. Can I apply these things as soon as the stitches are out?

Thanks @CrazilySensitive . I'm in mid mid thirties, so I think the skin pen really helped with collagen production.

Bless you, try not to form any judgement too soon. You really have no idea what you're long term outcome is going to be so in a way you're worrying about something you don't know yet. Because my accident was quite nasty I think I was just grateful to have got out without other more serious injuries. Maybe it would help to think about that. I know quite a few people who have done really nasty injuries falling off bikes (!) So you were lucky not to have a head injury or break a leg/hip/ shoulder. Some of those injuries can last a lifetime really. You have a good chance of a full recovery so in a way a scar (hopefully a very small one) is a small price to pay. But yes I get that "if only I could have gone back 10 seconds and done things differently " it's very natural to feel that for a few days. Take care.

CrazilySensitive · 19/07/2023 00:12

@BodgerBadgerMashup thank you. Yes, in more positive moments, I'm extremely grateful that my injuries aren't life threatening etc. But can't sustain those positive thoughts. I'm in too much discomfort to sleep well (hence awake now) so rumination is inevitable.
Anyway, thank you so much for understanding. The kindness of strangers means a very great deal to me...

For now, just concentrate on healing. Imagine teams of tiny workers carrying away the damaged tissue and replacing it with healthy stuff. Cheer them on as they work. It might sound daft, but it can help how you feel.

Thank you. That's actually really helpful imagery. It's so good to hear from others who've been through this ❤️

Op are you going to try for some RL interaction today?

FragrantBumFluff · 19/07/2023 08:21

My mum fell down a set of concrete steps flat on her face. Two black eyes and gashes all over her nose and chin, she looked a complete fright and was devastated. This was 3 months ago and she has completely healed now, you wouldn't even know. All the best Flowers

It really helped me, OP. At the time, I was really banged up, not just my face but hands, elbows and knees too, all gouged, scraped and bruised. I was a mess and there wasn't much I could do other than concentrate on healing, so that's what I did.

Bad accidents put you in a weird head space and it's very easy to keep asking yourself 'How TF did that happen? What did I do wrong?' but sometimes accidents just happen because they do. For me it was a split second of inattention and the next thing I know I'm regaining consciousness and there's an ambulance. It really freaked me out. The way through it for me was to comfort myself, as a mother would do with a child, tend myself gently to shush and just rest and get better. It was then that I imagined the little workers putting things right, working 24/7 to make sure I'd get well quickly.

BigBundleOfFluff · 19/07/2023 09:04

It will heal! But to help it along I think scar/silicone gel or sheets are amazing, vit e oil and what I think is most important, but ultra boring is spf 50 for life.
I'm prone to keloids and think time and consistency of application of above is vital. Also, if you are a picker like me - sitting on your hands!!

CrazilySensitive · 19/07/2023 09:21

Thank you @Vegemiteandhoneyontoast . Yes I've got a few bodily injuries too, but not nearly so bad. I guess I was protected by clothing.
Funnily enough, I think I also blacked out. I remember cycling along, thinking it was much windier than I'd thought before setting off, then nothing until two kind strangers were tending to me, and I was covered in blood. No memory whatsoever of falling. I am so fortunate that I didn't end up with life-threatening injuries. I've never had an accident before, and always been so incredibly fortunate with my physical health. So it's just such a shock!
I love your imagery. I'll definitely use that. As you say, not much else to do. I can't concentrate on reading or anything much. I'm spending a lot of time in the bath!

Thank you. Yes I've ordered some silicon gel from Boots. Oh, I'm a terrible picker! I might have to ask someone to tie my hands behind my back!

The amount of blood circulation around faces makes for very dramatic looking injuries, but it's also good for rapid and effective healing.

No one notices my old facial scar. With the location and when I got it, there weren't really options to assist with healing. It felt like it was red forever, but it faded into obscurity.
