BBC Presenter and yet more allegations

1000 replies

friendlycat · 11/07/2023 23:28

It would appear that the front page of tomorrow’s The Sun has further allegations about messages with a new 17 year old. Creepy hearts etc

Scrolling through Sky news and seeing front pages of the papers. This appears bottom right on The Sun front page.

I'm not sure I care anymore, this feels like a horrible witch hunt

Thing is that’s how people with excessive money get away with these things. They do what they want and then claim that the person wronged is just trying to get money out of them. It allows them to abuse freely.

do you have any scrap of evidence on a charge of abuse?

GraysPapaya · 12/07/2023 07:13

If it is who we think it is, the job requires a certain level of trust and decorum. The person is there to get the nation through tough times. You need integrity.
I don’t want to listen to a person in that role knowing they’ve broken marriage vows and are having online affairs with people 40+ younger. Some of which may have occurred under the age of consent to do so.
I’d judge a male friend of my if he did it at my age, let alone 60+ and in that job.

LlynTegid · 12/07/2023 07:13

Whilst I think what is alleged should be criminal, it is not from what I understand the law to be.

However, I think that the man concerned should come forward and acknowledge the allegations are about him. Even if saying no comments will be made about the allegations.

Not someone I would have expected to have behaved in the way alleged, but I am old enough to remember Frank Bough and his drug taking.

RumpleDumple · 12/07/2023 07:14

Meadowfly · 12/07/2023 06:40

I’m not vehemently on the presenters side. I just don’t think these accusations are THAT bad. It’s nothing like jimmy saville. It’s just seedy. And the bbc have to keep talking about it or they’ll be accused of a cover up or not taking it seriously. And of course they can’t release his name unless he agrees to it. The bbc has its faults but it is a wonderful organisation (those who have spent time living abroad will know this) and these actions of one employee are a ridiculous reason to criticise it.

This!

Beefcurtains79 · 12/07/2023 07:02

So the story should be dropped should it? The ‘crackhead’ victims shouldn’t be believed, and we should all go back to respecting a posh old man who gets his kicks from wanking off to degrading photos of young people? Then acting sanctimonious AF when doing their day job?
Gotcha.

Well if there's no evidence of wrong doing, then what else do you want to happen? Public flogging, in the stocks, hung drawn and quartered? Should he walk down the steps of shame like Cersei Lannister?

The crackhead victim has said nothing to see here.

If something comes out later on via investigation or allegation that he's slept with someone under the age of consent or sent pics to someone under the legal age limit, then I'm the first to call for him to be prosecuted.

But that has not happened yet, so I have to keep in my mind that one is innocent until proved guilty.

WeAreTheHeroes · 12/07/2023 07:15

Beefcurtains79 · 12/07/2023 07:08

I don’t care if a crimes been committed? I don’t want my license fee paying the wages of sleazy old pervs who take advantage of vulnerable young people and drug addicts.
Constantly repeating that a crime hasn’t been committed is a pretty low bar isn’t it? But I guess it’s the only defence really, - other than demonising the victims, being that they have no fame, and appear to be from less enviable demographics.

It's not a low bar at all. It's an important feature of our societal norms. Holding some people up to a higher standard of behaviour because they are public figures sets a dangerous precedent. I daresay we have all done things we are not proud of. Would we want them plastered all over the media and social media and would it be fair if they were?

LaDeeDa123 · 12/07/2023 07:16

This is an ongoing situation. Nobody knows the scale of it and whether a crime has been committed. People on here saying the presenter has done nothing wrong are stupid. You can’t possibly know that with the information you have and it’s dangerous to do so because someone may be a genuine victim in this and be put off from coming forward because idiots on social media are screaming about people just wanting money. Just let the Police get on with their job. We’ll know one way or another in due course. Up til then it’s nobody’s business except the parties involved

Or, could the publication date of this story to be detract from another Tory cronie as well as GO??

Exactly this 👆 convenient timing! Also gone quiet on the so called 'honours' list

Unless anything illegal has happened this needs to be dropped and handled internally by the BBC. Whilst it is probably selling loads of newspapers it is the gutter journalism which encourages the tabloid press to hack phones and intrude on (innocent) people's lives.

Don't understand how a man who can afford £35grand on this cannot find a more discrete way to fund his fetish.

But it is illegal to have indecent photos of an under 18 year old . Permission or not ? Is that not correct ?

That law is there for a reason . So I am a bit confused.

Because that is the accusation of the parents.

As this allegedly happened at work the BBC have been terrible . Their non action has basically made it worse IMO.

If they had handled it properly the person probably would not be hounded now.

Prestat · 12/07/2023 02:07

Comment on Twitter:

”As you try to make sense of the current media obsession do not forget that most of the papers covering it want to destroy the BBC because they either see it as a media rival or as an obstacle to the Foxisation of TV news”.

thanks

Jigslaw · 12/07/2023 07:17

The BBC and police can investigate and make the necessary actions surely without having to read about it constantly. The sun are scum as has been said and astounded anyone gives them clicks or worse buys the paper, but there's far more important things going on in the world. You can find it grim and hope they're held to account without seeing the need for tonnes of articles about it.

Lacucuracha · 12/07/2023 07:17

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/07/2023 23:39

The sun will be seeking out and paying £££ to keep their crap story alive.

So fucking what he sent some emojis to someone. The first person doesn't want to proceed with anything, the second has said the presenter sent mean messages when he had hinted he would name the presenter online, the Third met up with him, the 4th received some emojis.

Fuck me. This is such a load of nonsense

Way minimise sexual exploitation. You do you though.

Lacucuracha · 12/07/2023 07:18

marshmallowfinder · 11/07/2023 23:40

Don't necessarily believe it. Many people can see the money and want to cash in on the action. It's easy to make up a whole load of shit.

Except there is evidence.

StefanosHill · 12/07/2023 07:18

Let me fix that for you: there is allegedly evidence.

WeAreTheHeroes · 12/07/2023 07:19

Let me fix that for you: there is allegedly evidence.

The story would have died ages ago if there was no evidence.

Juanmartinez · 12/07/2023 07:21

The BBC have seen the evidence and said so on the news .

pendleflyer · 12/07/2023 07:23

Yikesno · 12/07/2023 06:23

This thread is absolutely amazing - it beggars belief that there could be so many legitimate mumsnet users so vehemently on the side of the unnamed presenter. Something very strange is going on here - I suspect people are being paid to defend him, denigrate the Sun and obfuscate the story in online forums like this one.

this is a joke right?
If not this is conspiracy theory piled on conspiracy theory.

tallcypowder · 12/07/2023 07:23

Meadowfly · 12/07/2023 07:01

Those of you in a righteous frenzy are the ones being manipulated imo.

It's all part of a bigger picture though.

Even allegations at the met. It needs to stop.
Too much of it around.

Lacucuracha · 12/07/2023 07:20

StefanosHill · 12/07/2023 07:25

pendleflyer · 12/07/2023 07:09

agree from what I have seen of the evidence so far.
Meanwhile folk continue to pile on.
do they have nothing else to do?

You are spending time on it too…

Fuckitydoodah · 12/07/2023 07:26

The allegations are grim and morally shady, but no law has been broken.

Does this person deserve to have their life ruined?

If it is who we think it is, it's been documented that they've had severe depression in the past. I should think after this they'll be a suicide risk. That would be awful.

Juanmartinez · 12/07/2023 07:28

@Fuckitydoodah its crossed my mind too.

pendleflyer · 12/07/2023 07:30

I remember the big shock of Frank Bough being that someone got off on stuff that would be as nowt in today's post 50 shades world while having the sheer effrontery to wear patterned jumpers.
