Wishing I could be invited to a wedding

beeonmybonnett · 09/07/2023 23:18

I haven’t been to a wedding since before covid and I have to say I wish I could just receive an invite to one.

they are so exciting. I love seeing everybody dressed to the nines and I love sitting in the audience watching the couple say their vows.

Although I think my most favourite part is the Reception when everybody is up on the dance floor dancing to the music the DJ is playing. What’s everybody’s favourite song to dance to at a wedding?

hopefully somebody I know will decide to get married and invite me to their wedding soon! Anyone else really want to go to one or is it just me?

God no. They are tedious at best, they last for bloody hours. Luckily everyone I know is either already married or never going to be.

I love a wedding, OP, I know what you mean. And as you get older, there are fewer opportunities to let rip on the dance floor so I really value weddings for that!
haven’t had one in ages though 🙁

Yes, love the dance floor - so good to push your worries to the back of your head for one night and dance the night away!

I’m quite a shy person so I’d never be confident enough to dance with an audience when sober but after having a couple of glasses of wine at a wedding, I somehow find the confidence to dance on the dance floor!

And sure what better excuse is there to get all dressed and glammed up for the day ! Lol

Yes, I love a good wedding too, OP.

I feel a little bit sad when a year or two goes past without going to any.

beeonmybonnett · 10/07/2023 00:52

I think it’s depressing that I’ve been to more funerals in the last few years than I have weddings!

I was going to say offer yourself up as an MN witness-for- strangers. They are required every now and then. But those weddings don't have loads of outfits and dance floors. 🤷

Tighginn · 10/07/2023 00:59

I see weddings in the same light as I see professional footballers, the most disgusting waste of money imaginable.

Magssss · 10/07/2023 01:01

I must admit that after we had EIGHT weddings last year (we are at that age where everyone is getting married) I was so relieved to have only two this year!

blahblahblah1654 · 10/07/2023 01:04

I love weddings! It's been 4 years since we've been to one too. All our friends are married off now so I can't imagine going to another anytime soon!

This is the best description I’ve read in a while.

Not to mention they’re long, boring and full of gushy bollocks.

I miss weddings too! Its been 7 years since I went to one!
most of my friends either got married before I met them, eloped, or didnt get married at all, so Ive been to very few weddings in my life!
Im always in awe when people have multiple weddings in a year!! Ive been to an average of a wedding every 5 years or so!!!

I dont necessarily love the dancing, but I love the dressing up and the party!

They are great. And who doesn’t love a slice of wedding cake!!

My god so many people on MN are such absolute bloody miseries about weddings. I always think they’re also the least likely to be actually invited anyway as if they’re this miserable in real life they probably don’t get invited to many anyway.

I love a good wedding. Nice to have a big party where everyone is all happy.

PrayerFactory · 10/07/2023 16:15

OP, honestly, it’s lovely that you enjoy weddings, but if your favourite bit is getting dressed up, having a few drinks and hitting the dance floor, surely you can replicate that on a night out with friends without having to wait for a wedding invitation?

pimplebum · 10/07/2023 16:22

I love a wedding to both the events in the day and the romance

Oh it just wouldn’t be the same for me - a wedding is way more exciting!

Don't mind them, went to one at weekend, just I hate evening part. The incredibly noisy disco do you can't speak/hear so have to move elsewhere to chat, which mostly means no seats.

I like a seat!

I managed 10.30 last one then went off to bed, partner stayed until 1am!

finewelshcheese · 10/07/2023 17:08

I love a good wedding.

We had an invitation to one that was meant to be in 2020 (to the full day) then when they rebooked it for 2022 we had been downgraded to evening guests 😂 gutted!

Mumdiva99 · 10/07/2023 17:18

I love a wedding. Not been invited to many over the years.....lots of my friends have remained unmarried.

However the last few years I have worked at a few weddings. That's fun too. Making the day special for the guests.

gogomoto · 10/07/2023 17:33

If you like dancing find a local pub with live bands/dj- we are lucky several have free entertainment. No need to wait for a wedding

gogomoto · 10/07/2023 17:35

Perhaps i should organise a meet up here for people who want a night out (the great thing here is that there's all ages from kids to great grannies!)

PomTiddlyPomPom · 10/07/2023 17:41

I love a wedding! People on here are such miseries about them though.
I love getting dressed up in a really fancy outfit (the ones you can't really get away with just for a night out with the girls) and seeing distant family that you don't normally bump into!
Even better if it involves staying overnight at a fancy hotel.

Summer2424 · 10/07/2023 17:49
