Wishing I could be invited to a wedding

I haven’t been to a wedding since before covid and I have to say I wish I could just receive an invite to one.

they are so exciting. I love seeing everybody dressed to the nines and I love sitting in the audience watching the couple say their vows.

Although I think my most favourite part is the Reception when everybody is up on the dance floor dancing to the music the DJ is playing. What’s everybody’s favourite song to dance to at a wedding?

hopefully somebody I know will decide to get married and invite me to their wedding soon! Anyone else really want to go to one or is it just me?

I wouldn't want to go to multiple ones a year but it has been a while since I went to a proper wedding reception and really wish I had one coming up

Topseyt123 · 10/07/2023 18:02

I might have said similar years ago, but not now. I've outgrown them, at least until or unless any of my DDs should ever get married. All three are in their twenties now but it still isn't looking that likely anytime soon.

To be honest, I'm not a massively sociable person, so I'm not that bothered and I can understand people finding them tedious. I enjoyed our own wedding but was less keen on others (kept that under wraps though obviously).

GlitterSneakers · 10/07/2023 18:04

I love a wedding too op, the atmosphere, the dressing up and having a good dance. The last one we went to was last August, so not long ago, but it was our first one since 2019.
I’m hoping someone in my family (nudge nudge little brother) proposes to his lovely gf soon, so we can all celebrate 🎉

I like them too, there was a time in my 20s when I was going to several a year but it has been a long time since we've been to one now. I'm the opposite about which parts I like though, don't like dressing up (dressing up = uncomfy shoes) and don't like the music and dancing. The best parts are the ceremony and the chance to talk for hours with people you haven't seen for ages, getting to know other friends of your friends and familt. I always think it's a shame when people want to dance instead of talking.

I see weddings in the same light as I see professional footballers, the most disgusting waste of money imaginable.

This is exactly how I feel!

Anyway, I hope you get your wish and are invited to one.

I was thinking yesterday that this is an experience my kids haven’t had - the family wedding, embarrassing adults dancing, falling asleep on a couple of chairs late evening. I can’t imagine we will have any weddings in the next couple of years, but I hope we do have some family ones before my kids are grown!

FromNowOn23 · 10/07/2023 18:18

I love the choosing what to wear and getting dressed up part!

Sadly a lot of weddings are child free these days.
I remember going to family weddings in the late 80's & early 90's and getting to wear a 'posh' dress then go skidding across the dance floor on my knees with the other kids....

WhatNoRaisins · 10/07/2023 18:40

I'd love to take my kids to the odd wedding but we don't have anyone in our circle that's likely to get married in the near future.

flotsomandjetsome · 10/07/2023 18:45

I've never been invited to a single wedding that wasn't family (siblings or cousins) when I hear about people talking about wedding 'season' I am envious.

I seem to have a lot of acquaintances but no real close friends

Babdoc · 10/07/2023 18:49

I have turned down multiple wedding invites, and only attended my own with great reluctance, in order to get a year’s tax rebate! Ghastly things.
DD2 is marrying next year, and unfortunately doesn’t want to follow my “day off work, 2 witnesses, job’s a good’un” route. She wants the full razzamatazz, with reception etc. I will stick on a smile and attend, but as an autistic radfem who can’t dance and hates big gatherings, frocks and small talk, I will be struggling.

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 10/07/2023 18:57

I think the actual ceremony is nice, but I am not a person who enjoys wedding receptions or parties.

ElFupacabra · 10/07/2023 18:59

I didn’t think you were allowed to like weddings on MN? I love them. Just had my own, it was epic but went too quickly. Luckily we have a friends wedding in a few months so can enjoy it without the stress!

OP, honestly, it’s lovely that you enjoy weddings, but if your favourite bit is getting dressed up, having a few drinks and hitting the dance floor, surely you can replicate that on a night out with friends without having to wait for a wedding invitation?

No, you really can't. Not even a big birthday would warrant a nice dress and dancing with my friends and where I live.

How about this instead?!

I love weddings too OP. Haven’t been to many either lately but we’ve already got at least 3 next year and it’ll be fab!

Absolutely the ceremony itself is really nice but the music and everybody having a good time and dancing is just creates such a nice atmosphere

I think it’s depressing that I’ve been to more funerals in the last few years than I have weddings!

I'm in my forties and I have noticed the same

I love a wedding! People on here are such miseries about them though.
I love getting dressed up in a really fancy outfit (the ones you can't really get away with just for a night out with the girls) and seeing distant family that you don't normally bump into!
Even better if it involves staying overnight at a fancy hotel.

Agree with you. The last wedding I was at, we stayed overnight at the hotel. Lovely breakfast the next morning with the newly married couple. Was really lovely.

I love weddings. I'm very middle aged now so don't go to many but I am having my own this year. It won't be a "waste of money" because we don't have any to waste! We are still managing a good party with nice food but we've stripped it right back. No cars, no photography etc. What we spend on will be for everyone to enjoy.

That sounds lovely. I have seen some posters comment that weddings are too much but I don’t think they are. Especially if you’re trimming it down to save money, like you are.

Enjoy your day!

In what way are they exciting?

beeonmybonnett · 10/07/2023 22:39

Watching two people who (in most cases) love each other and are committing to spending the rest of their lives together, being all dressed up and glam for the day, seeing people who you haven’t seen in a long time, dancing the night away to the music.
