Wishing I could be invited to a wedding

I haven’t been to a wedding since before covid and I have to say I wish I could just receive an invite to one.

they are so exciting. I love seeing everybody dressed to the nines and I love sitting in the audience watching the couple say their vows.

Although I think my most favourite part is the Reception when everybody is up on the dance floor dancing to the music the DJ is playing. What’s everybody’s favourite song to dance to at a wedding?

hopefully somebody I know will decide to get married and invite me to their wedding soon! Anyone else really want to go to one or is it just me?

I hate them! Loathe getting dressed up, and consider them a total waste of money. Luckily none on the horizon for at least 7 years. I may be dead by then 😀

We've probably all got our ideal dosage for weddings. One every 2 years would suit me I think. Wouldn't want multiple weddings a year.

I am 28 and have never been to a wedding in my life! My relatives all either were already married when I was born, got married abroad and we couldn’t afford to go, or didn’t have guests at their weddings and none of my friends have got married yet.

I too love a good wedding, along with christenings, Christmas, New Year, milestone birthday affairs and other family get togethers. I found the dislike of weddings on mumsnet quite a revelation as I don’t know anyone in real life like that. DH comes from a large extended family who are all genuinely nice, good people that actually like each other so over the years, we’ve had the privilege of being invited to many weddings and have enjoyed every single one of them. Love the dressing up, general atmosphere, food, dancing, tipsy uncles and the terrible but funny speeches, love it all.

The last wedding we went to was in May for DH’s step brother. It was ‘small’ by their standards (only 50 people), registry followed by a reception in the garden of another family member. We all chipped in with food and drink and did games including rounders and giant Jenga. The weather was glorious, plenty of Prosecco, kids running around or in the games room playing Mario kart, my teens and their cousins having a dance off, and plenty of bad middle aged dancing. My idea of a stonking good time. I have another one coming up for good friend in September and I literally cannot wait. Already bought my outfit and I’m making her wedding cake. 😊

I think as I get older, I appreciate the times for joyous celebrations more and more but also realise that I’m perhaps lucky to be blessed with good family and friends that I genuinely like spending time with. Sadly, funerals are becoming more frequent so all the more reason to cherish and enjoy the celebrations.

OP, I hope you get an invite very soon or find someone who can make you their plus one. Good luck!
