TV presenter allegations

JeandeServiette · 08/07/2023 23:54

Could we PLEASE have a thread that stays up?

Meaning don't name anyone, or any programme or ask for initials or hint.

I just would like to discuss how this is likely to unfold.

Is there a danger that not announcing the presenter will ramp up homophobia? It would appear as are talking about a male presenter and a male victim so speculation will possibly fall on those presenters that are known to be homosexual (of course they may not)?

I think this case is worse than PhIl Schofield and when revealed a career is going to be swiftly ended.

I bet it's a "happily" married man, not someone known to be gay, at least not known to the public.

SmirnoffIceIsNice · 09/07/2023 08:10

Looking back on those days when The Sun and other red tops published a topless picture of a woman every day - for payment - it's horrendous to think this was deemed acceptable in a daily newspaper. In the case of Sam Fox who was only 16, what on earth were they thinking!

My parents used to buy The Sun and I always felt embarrassed seeing these images as a young girl growing up.

DisquietintheRanks · 09/07/2023 08:10

I am wondering whether the young man in question was happy with his mother going to the tabloids with this. I don't really see how it helps him at all.

Namechanger1002 · 09/07/2023 08:11

“The family finally approached The Sun, making it clear they wanted no payment.”
It doesn’t say they didn’t receive payment which is what The Sun usually say.
I don’t blame them for going to the papers - I wouldn’t trust the police or the BBC not to fuck up an investigation like this.

VisionsOfSplendour · 09/07/2023 08:12

gogomoto · 09/07/2023 08:01

If an offence has been committed then why hadn't the family reported it? Why go to the employer or a newspaper neither have the ability to investigate crimes. If it's simply seedy but not illegal behaviour then it's all about money I'm guessing, how much did the sun pay?

I think you may be guessing wrongly, the sun doesn't appear to have paid anything

MayThe4th · 09/07/2023 08:12

Maybe people wouldn’t be looking for excuses if this was a cloak and dagger story being published in the tabloid renouned for page3?

let’s not pretend that the sun is a paragon of virtue. If the alleged victim had been female and 20 years ago they would have paid for the pictures themselves.

User10486743 · 09/07/2023 08:14

Has it definitely been said now that the alleged victim is male

I don't think so. In fact it has been said but a random on MN so it must be true that it's a female!

gogomoto · 09/07/2023 08:02

It all sounds pretty close to blackmail to me.

My thoughts too. The mother knew before and did nothing....why now?

User9753224 · 09/07/2023 08:17

Next headline will be a list of all of the bbc tv presenters that haven’t come out to say it’s not them..

Theunamedcat · 09/07/2023 08:18

BillyNoM8s · 09/07/2023 00:04

The bbc's own article says male presenter.

An unnamed BBC presenter is facing fresh allegations by the Sun newspaper after it claimed he paid a teenager for sexually explicit photos.
The star was pictured in his underwear "ready for my child to perform for him", their mother told the paper.

Fresh allegations? So he has been accused before?

No idea why I'm asking that question as we don't know who it is 😅

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 08:18

indeed,
3 years later and the mum reports it?

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 08:19

sounds like a scandi noir

FitAt50 · 09/07/2023 08:19

Sounds like the 'son' has set himself up on an onlyfans or 'seeking sugar daddy' website. He would have to have claimed he was 18 to get approved on these sites and to register for payments from 'customers'. The BBC 'star' would have discovered him on there and made connection and regular payments for private contact.

DisquietintheRanks · 09/07/2023 08:19

Lacucuracha · 09/07/2023 07:52

You can’t understand why seeing your exploiter get justice could benefit the victim?

Most victims of sexual abuse say that they value having control over what happens to them next eg when and whether they report to the police. Bad enough their abuser taking away their control, without everyone else doing it too.

This mother wants revenge, which is understandable. Let's just hope her child is on board with that and possibly being prosecuted for distributing indecent images of a child of course, otherwise things may just have been made a whole lot worse for them.

Goldfoot · 09/07/2023 08:21

Theunamedcat · 09/07/2023 08:18

I'd read that as more allegations now, so not just the pictures.

cushioncovers · 09/07/2023 08:21

Sounds like the mother wants money and is going to use the fame of the bbc employee as a cash cow.

frustratednomad · 09/07/2023 08:22

I would be interested to know if this celebrity is still being paid. If the BBC has definitive proof that this incident has happened then they should be made to name the person involved, it is license payers money that have paid his wages, ergo license payers money that has been paid to the victim.

I thought it had been established that she hadn't accepted any payment and didn't want any?

I was wondering about how they would have made contact. How stupid must a high profile person be to risk being publically identified by contacting randoms online

I find it a bit hard to believe anyone would do that

SlashsHat · 09/07/2023 08:26

Thoughts and prayers to all the male BBC presenters who are currently off air for legitimate reasons…

one thing I know for sure is I hope Katie Hopkins gets sued (again) for libel following her video. Would have thought the odious road would have learnt her lesson the first two times…

lionsleepstonight · 09/07/2023 08:27

Good too see some pp are focusing on the actions of the mother (females always get the blame in the end) when the issue is a publicly funded tv presenter is using that cash to exploit a vulnerable person (age 16 at the start / drug addict).

Rightly so it's career ending.

This is the top story in several papers. They want us to guess. Another name is trending on twitter today of a very well known person who happens to be gay. Make of that what you will. Speculation? Perhaps

lionsleepstonight · 09/07/2023 08:28

And the 'trending name' has been wrong three times so far, so don't hold your breath!

Channellingsophistication · 09/07/2023 08:28

I think it’s a girl, not a boy. I saw an article friday night saying daughter. I can’t find that article now.
