TV presenter allegations

Could we PLEASE have a thread that stays up?

Meaning don't name anyone, or any programme or ask for initials or hint.

I just would like to discuss how this is likely to unfold.

@Inkpotlover that statement unless proven is slander.

I think you mean libel, is it even possible to libel a nameless person when you don't know who they are?

Inkpotlover · 09/07/2023 12:59

Sunnyfunnytimes · 09/07/2023 12:57

Absolutely it is not . There was no mention of bribery or using drugs as leverage, I’d report that and get it deleted, you’ve went too far.

So why did you just repeat the comment?! I've asked MN to take mine down but I stand by the fact you cannot slander someone who isn't named!

So what? He is allowed a sex life and preferences. As long as its not Illegal it is not anyone else's business.

Most people wouldn't want their sex lives exposed, even very boring ones. I agree if it isn't illegal it's nothing to do with anyone else.

I used to work for the vice squad in my city, I would be doing the paperwork when prostitutes were arrested. Some were regulars and I got to know them and they would sometimes sit and tell me funny stories about well known people while I was sorting out their paperwork, they really were funny the way they told them and I suppose some people would be shocked. All these years later I still see a very respected person, high up in the entertainment world, on TV from time to time and I remember some stories about him. I've never told anyone his name, not even my husband. I think other people "in the know" telling people is more shocking to me than what actually went on.

Inkpotlover · 09/07/2023 12:55

It wasn't on OF though and he was apparently well aware of the person's age and their vulnerability.

@Inkpotlover, you seem to know so much that you must be complicit in the crime.

Curiouscarla · 09/07/2023 13:04

@ancientgran ive worked in a similar role. This is nothing. I just don't think people are able to process the fact that celebrities or well known types are also humans. It's like a mental block.

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2023 13:05

I remember reading Cynthia Payne's book many years ago now and although she didn't ' name names ' she hinted at the very high profile people she came across in her establishments.
I find these recent allegations depressing ( especially for the victims involved) but not that surprising considering how easy it is for people to access porn and these type of online sites on the net.

I am mostly shocked why these people take risks like this.

It's the thrill of being caught!

RegimentalSturgeon · 09/07/2023 13:06

if it was on only fans, where you need to be 18 to have an account and if the girl portrayed herself to be, you’d have to prove he knew she was a few months younger

Quite. So far the only person definitely known to have committed an offence is the subject of the photos. Crack isn’t legal either. I wonder if plod will investigate that individual as zealously as some posters seem to want them to pursue the presenter.

It's called having eyes and being able to read. 🙄

JeandeServiette · 09/07/2023 13:07

It's the thrill of being caught!

So they gamble with it and sometimes some of them lose. They really can't complain. You know what the deal is if you accept a senior job with a public service broadcaster.

I don't care what this person does in their private life but I do object with being forced to pay for it due to the bully boy tactics by the BBC.

WeWereInParis · 09/07/2023 13:09

People will definitely be shocked, because of the gravitas of the person involved. You just would not expect it from them because of how they conduct themselves on screen.

Oh I'm sure it might be surprising (although reading the news/commentating on sport/presenting whatever in a professional way doesn't really imply anything about someone personal life). But piers Morgan saying "rocked" is just melodramatic - to me rocked is a very emotional reaction, much stronger than "oh really, he always seemed so clean cut" which is my reaction. Or would be my reaction, if I knew who it was.
But at this point there have been so many scandals involving individuals as well as whole organisations that there isn't anyone where I'd think "no! It can't be true!!!!"

HarrisJu · 09/07/2023 13:10

Those of us who are older remember Frank Bough.
I was shocked.

You need a tabloid>English dictionary. Grin "Rocked" is absolutely red top speak for "mildly surprised".

Yes I watched a documentary on this the other day and I was surprised.

I'm medium old and I remember trying to figure that one out as a young teen. I couldn't understand what he'd done.

@Inkpotlover I think you will find that it's called being extremely naïve and believing everything on the internet.

Paper never refused ink.

SpinResistant · 09/07/2023 13:13

Well this just goes to show what happens if you pack senior management positions at the BBC with Tory stooges - we don't need to shut down the BBC, we need to shut down the Tory party!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 09/07/2023 13:16

I heard last night that the story is the news and the news is the story so I have an idea who it is
If I found out my DC was involved in this, I'd make it known too
Possibly the male DC is now in a vulnerable place.
BBC presenter in high regard should be seen to be " clean"
Parallels of PS and ITV

I used to work in the media. I still have friends who do. I know what to believe and what not to, thanks very much.

No it isn't. Don't make things up.

Though it's highly likely Piers is over-estimating the significance of the individual to most people and loving the drama as usual.

BillyNoM8s · 09/07/2023 00:04

The bbc's own article says male presenter.

An unnamed BBC presenter is facing fresh allegations by the Sun newspaper after it claimed he paid a teenager for sexually explicit photos.
The star was pictured in his underwear "ready for my child to perform for him", their mother told the paper.

Fresh allegations implies there have been allegations in the past. I remember a discussion about a chap a few months ago on here.

Isn't it likely the Piers knows whoever it is personally, will at least have met them? His response and the public's may be different, but if it's someone where there'd been prior rumours in the industry, you'd think he'd have known.

JeandeServiette · 09/07/2023 13:21

No it isn't. Don't make things up.

Oh I think it is. They don't go in for litotes. Quite the reverse.

And OFC because the tabloid sector is so immersed in entertainment and trivia they think we're all equally up to date and invested.

One of my Uni friends used to sub for a red top. I could never understand why he wasted a brain but they all seem to consider it an art form.
