TV presenter allegations

JeandeServiette · 08/07/2023 23:54

Could we PLEASE have a thread that stays up?

Meaning don't name anyone, or any programme or ask for initials or hint.

I just would like to discuss how this is likely to unfold.

oh dear, my initial thought/suspicion seems confirmed.

How so?

Doggymummar · 09/07/2023 10:06

I heard from a colleague the accusers family are from Wales, but I didn't see that in the press. Can anyone corroborate?

The shadow outline on the Daily Mail is interesting. I've shown it to my family and all immediately and independently said it was 'name'.

This person fits it all- but again if it isn't it seems very unfair. I do think that whatever happens it needs to be dealt with quickly.

As for why, I'm with the other posters, it's men. Although why so much money needed to be sent I'm unclear- sadly I know that many youths (and I see that as a term for either sex, as I do the term 'bits') do this for much less.

I looked at this and wasn’t sure what the bulk around the neck was.

I am aghast at the way pps are ripping into the BBC on the basis of one unproven allegation by a family who seem to have now gone to ground.

The original complaint to the BBC was made at the height of the Philip Scofield affair, and it’s not too far fetched to assume there were probably other complaints (including false claims). The BBC would need to do their own investigations before removing someone from air so the time delay isn’t surprising.

Hmmm - adds weight to my suspicion too. His name has come up previously.

@NoraBattysCurlers Curious about your last paragraph. Are there ongoing investigations on this? I’d have thought that allegations of a former Conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer would be investigated thoroughly.

@AProlificNameChanger, what on earth makes you believe that these allegations would be investigated thoroughly?

The age of consent in England is 16.

The allegations were one of many made in 'The Email' sent to wedding guests last Thursday.

Sunnyfunnytimes · 09/07/2023 10:13

determinedtomakethiswork · 09/07/2023 09:31

Why isn't this a police matter? Why is it up to the BBC to investigate it?

The age of consent in the uk is 16. The youngest they were was 17. It isn’t illegal just disgusting, that’s why the mother went to the employer. What the young woman chose to spend the money on, as n adult at past 18 the mum says, is not the an illegality by the presenter. So there is no criminal case.

SoupDragon · 09/07/2023 10:17

VisionsOfSplendour · 09/07/2023 09:49

Well we don't know do we? Has that person denied it is them?

But either way my explanation of what the clip is purporting to suggest still stands

Yes, we do know it is pointless because the presenters change all the time and there is nothing unusual about it. Maybe people should stop making unfounded suggestions. Why shojld they deny it! What does denying it mean? Anyone can say "it wasn't me". No one is going to say "yeah, you're right, you've got me." are they?

alipenguin · 09/07/2023 10:19

Off topic a bit. I know someone who was doing well in the BBC who reported to their boss inappropriate behaviour by a children’s presenter, who is still on tv. The whistleblower’s career in television came to a screeching halt. Cast and crew all knew about the presenters questionable behaviours but either did nothing or the bosses did nothing. The BBC cover up or look the other way.

Regardless of who it is this time, bosses need to be doing more to stop this kind of behaviour when it’s first reported.

I’m less interested in who it is and more concerned about why tv execs (and the police) don’t do more when reports are being made.

SadKendall · 09/07/2023 10:19

Has anyone checked out the tattle thread?

I just popped over there for a read and they seem to have a consensus.

Doggymummar · 09/07/2023 10:20

VisionsOfSplendour · 09/07/2023 09:38

A television isn't needed to listen to the clips and spot the difference

Oh there are two clips on consecutive days. When you open it fully you can see them both. I've mine set to autoplay so this is not default. The missing person still did the voiceovers for news at ten on Claudia winklemen yesterday. Maybe an oversight?

asking a 17 year old to send photos can result in a prison sentence

Not if it’s only fans and they purport to be older.

Willmafrockfit · 09/07/2023 10:22

what is the tattle thread? @SadKendall

DameMargaretofChalfont · 09/07/2023 10:23

For everyone stating that no criminal offence has been committed because the age of consent is 16

Under the Protection of Children Act 1978, it is an offence to 'make, distribute, possess or show any indecent images of anyone aged under 18' - even if it was created with the young person's consent.

It is also a criminal offence to ask a child under 18 to send a sexual image of themselves - and causing or inciting sexual exploitation of a child carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.

If Caroline Dinenage was genuinely furious at this type of behaviour, she would have left the parliamentary Conservative Party long ago.

Caroline Dinenage's faux fury is masking relief that it wasn't one of her Conservative Party colleagues who she sits next to in the House of Commons, for a change.

This story has very conveniently kept the allegations that the former Conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer was having sex in toilets with drunk sixteen year old girls from the front pages.

"Very conveniently". The most beloved phrase of the conspiracy theory nutters.

Porageeater · 09/07/2023 10:27

When have ongoing investigations or lack of evidence ever stopped the tabloids from naming and hounding people? And they say there is evidence. I think they are keeping it under wraps to maximise the hype and people clicking for clues and also maximum damage to the BBC so win-win for them.

adriftabroad · 09/07/2023 10:27

Ive not been on any of the threads apart from this one. I live in Spain, so it is not on the news.
I have, however, worked out who it is. Its easy.

Why do so many posters find such horror in speculating while on a thread which is inviting just that? (While saying otherwise)
Why the faux shock horror and condemnation of being interested in one of the top news items in the UK? It is the bigger picture that matters here too.
Why the constant need to deny you read the DM, having "just clicked on it by accident?" Who cares?

I am horrified that so any middle aged men behave like this. So many. I have a teenaged DD. THAT is why I am interested. Disgusting. Only Fans etc online porn, Tinder... it all makes me sick.

The mother says she complained to the BBC in May, the "child" is now 20 so in May they were either 19 or 20 so nothing illegal for the BBC to investigate. I'm not sure if it would have been appropriate for them to investigate the activities of 2 adults doing nothing illegal.

BBC aren't law enforcement so I'd have thought they'd have little if any authority to investigate what went on years ago, police matter if it started when under 18.

That may well be the case but if the person is lying about how old they are and stating they are the legal age ............

hamstersarse · 09/07/2023 10:33

I don’t understand why it’s not possible for the BBC to release a statement and be open and transparent about who is under investigation. They don’t seem to have such morals when describing cases when others are involved. See Cliff Richard. Or Andrew and Tristan Tate - who they refer to as ‘human traffickers and rapists’ despite no convictions.

What do you mean by worked it out?

Do you mean you know who everyone is speculating about or you actually know for sure who the person is?

the star is not accused of making the images or distributing them. That’s not the accusation, and If this was only fans and she claimed to be 18 as you need to be for an account, then he’s done what every other person using that god awful site does, you pay for further images. There is no police investigation , which tells you something , it wasn’t illegal or perceived to be illegal.
