Who do you think is the BBC presenter who has been suspended?

I don't have twitter and haven't seen any theories as to who it is, I'm presuming a man due to the figure outline being used in the press:

There is no suggestion in the news report to say that he has tried to harm himself or been sectioned. I think speculating about this is in the worst possible taste.

Rhondaa · 12/07/2023 18:40

'Yes what he has done is immoral but as the police have looked into this several times what he has done is not illegal.'

Nothing Schofield did was illegal eirher but he too was rightly publicly shamed and sacked.

These rich, powerful privileged men just cannot march about <allegedly> using vulnerable youngsters.

The Sun has a lot to answer for? Wtaf. Huw Edwards hiding in a posh clinic has a lot to answer for.

I'm not defending the immoral actions of the man. But I don't see what people expected to happen after a week of social media onslaught on a man with a well documented history of severe mental health issues.

Rhondaa · 12/07/2023 18:33

If it wasn't true they'd be denying it.

He's been caught, checks into private clinic wife releases poor us statement.

Like all men caught he's no doubt very very sorry he's been caught, I await a Schofield esque sad face interview in 2 weeks time.

At least we won't get Sophie Raworth simpering, 'are you ok?' into the camera.

Schofield's boyfriend worked at the same company as him, even if we ignore all the evidence they met when he was considerably underage.

This seems to involve either dating apps or OnlyFans.

I expect him to release his own statement, apologise for his behaviour and say he is resigning/being sacked and working with relevant parties to address his <alleged> abhorrent behaviour.

There's seems to be too much apologising amd enabling going on in his favour bizarrely.

justasking111 · 12/07/2023 18:47

Let's wait until the wheels turn there are a lot of victims.

NeedToThinkOfOne · 12/07/2023 18:58

Read the statement from his wife, a brave woman who just wants to protect their children- for her sake the speculation and nasty comments that have been rife since last Friday should stop. Statement from the police confirms no criminal case, it’s a matter for the presenters employer. It really is nothing to do with any of us at this point, give the family some privacy, we can only imagine what impact the last few days have had on their children.

If nothing illegal has taken place then they are no more ‘victims’ than the young cam girls/boys, OnlyFans performers and porn stars that millions of men wank over every day.

If you’re going to be morally outraged about this then spare some for the men who get off on the sexual services of young adults every day. Where is the outrage about that? Confused

I agree, I thought her statement was very well done. And if nothing illegal has taken place then it really is none of our business.

He is in a position of privilege and power. Like Schofield. This isn’t about men wanking over porn it is about high profile men going on the telly pushing their happily married well behaved lifestyle then allegedly chasing vulnerable youngsters.

I really don't think anyone would care if he'd been caught with a copy of readers wives.

You don’t have to be a high profile man to be in a position of privilege and power when it comes to sex. Or anything really. And plenty of sex workers are vulnerable.

Are you really that naive to buy into an image?

Curiouscarla · 12/07/2023 19:10

Yes it's the devout Christian image that really winds me up.
Bur it's true that those who shout the loudest about being upstanding members of the community are always the ones that have a lot to hide.

It's as if the ego needs to convince itself.

Rhondaa · 12/07/2023 19:12

'Are you really that naive to buy into an image?'

I'm not remotely naive. Those bleating 'He didn't do anything illegal and had mh problems' probably are.

In what way?

Surgicalnightmare · 12/07/2023 19:14

But he's done nothing illegal and he has a long documented history of Mh issues.

Do you realise how difficult it is to be admitted to a mental health inpatient unit -private or otherwise - in the UK? There are NO beds unless you are seriously unwell. Money cannot buy a bed in much of the UK.

Rhondaa · 12/07/2023 19:15

TokyoStories · 12/07/2023 19:13

Illegal doesn't mean not grossly inappropriate and immoral. Mh problems does not excuse or explain said inappropriate and immoral behaviour.

justasking111 · 12/07/2023 19:17

How many 18 year olds are doing this for money I wonder. They wouldn't know a newscaster from the BBC as a celebrity but just another punter.

Your child in their bedroom on their phones could be making money. I think these websites are irresponsible at the very least. Let's shine a spot light on them.

I think it's fairly easy to pay to be admitted to a 'clinic' tbh.

I don’t believe anybody has stated that it does.

TokyoStories · 12/07/2023 19:22

Although for what it’s worth, mental health problems can absolutely make people behave inappropriately.

the80sweregreat · 12/07/2023 19:30

I agree that shining a light on these internet sites is a good idea too
Someone is making money from it all
They seem to be overlooked.
It's too easy to go on them and make loads of money. Completely immoral.
Not condoning what Edwards did btw.

Yep, this subject is for a whole other thread. Funny how people will condemn an individual, but not those legal platforms that enable and encourage the behaviour, with no protection for the vulnerable or young consumers.

"he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he'll stay for the foreseeable future."
