Who do you think is the BBC presenter who has been suspended?

I don't have twitter and haven't seen any theories as to who it is, I'm presuming a man due to the figure outline being used in the press:

Yes. The police were told in April. And did nothing. Because yes, the Met are also scum who serve those in power and fuck over victims of crime. Particularly young, vulnerable, poor victims of crime, where the perpetrators are much more wealthy and powerful.

From the BBC website:

A police force was first contacted about the unnamed presenter in April, it has emerged.

The force says "no criminality was identified" at the time but that further enquiries are now ongoing.

It doesn’t identify which police force. Are you just assuming that it was the Met because the investigation has been passed to it now?

LadyTemperance · 11/07/2023 19:18

@Superfood I think there are people like this at every level of society. Is it better that someone cheats on their spouse because they are poor?

Northernsouloldies · 11/07/2023 20:17

Part of the sun headline today, 20 year old youth. Never heard of a 20yr old being called a youth before. I think there's an element to it being played to the public that person in question is younger than actually is. As for the my child wouldn't have had gotten crack if if wasn't for this money is a bit of a nonsense as addicts will rustle up money no matter what for a hit.

That’s been irritating me too. Funny how they’re putting this moral spin on it considering their history. And now this new allegation is from a ‘young person’. To me, a young person is a teenager.

SabrinaThwaite · 11/07/2023 20:31

Legally in the UK a young person is someone aged 14 to 17.

adriftabroad · 11/07/2023 20:35

That is a teenager, surely.
Young person is up to uni leaving age (in Spain, France etc) so between 21 and 24.
A 14 / 17 year old is a child.

User10486743 · 11/07/2023 20:39

Youths are generally about 16-18 year old males, between childhood and adulthood

TokyoStories · 11/07/2023 20:42

According to the UN, a youth is aged between 15 and 24 https://www.un.org/esa/socdev/documents/youth/fact-sheets/youth-definition.pdf

Not sure I'd have been too pleased about being referred to as a youth when I was 20, having lived independently and worked full time for four years Confused

Superfood · 11/07/2023 20:42

I've worked on many different projects for 'young people' and the age range can be anything from 11 up to 25, occasionally even 30.

I would ask yourself why this specific question is what you are choosing to focus on.

Whether the younger people in this situation are 17, 18, 20 or 23, there is no question about where the weight of power, money, age and influence lies here.

And there is no question that the behaviour of the (much) older person, as described and verified by the BBC, is appalling.

Why would you want to minimise or distract from that?

TokyoStories · 11/07/2023 20:47

I would ask yourself why this specific question is what you are choosing to focus on.

Because I think it's manipulative of the press.

For what it's worth, if it's true, I think it's sleazy and horrible. But there are lots of sleazy and horrible men around. 'Teen', 'schoolgirl' and 'barely legal' are very popular porn categories, for example, but it's normalised and excused, including by some women on here.

Do you think that any of the women here who are sickened and distraught by this story would be fine with it if he were paying 17 year old girls for photos and sending abusive, threatening, expletive filled texts to women in their 20s?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can tell you definitively that I wouldn't.

I think it's fucking disgusting that adult men are making and paying for 'schoolgirl' or 'barely legal' pornography. Let alone threatening and abusing young women.

TokyoStories · 11/07/2023 20:53

I don't disagree with you @Superfood. It's all fucking disgusting and I despair.

SabrinaThwaite · 11/07/2023 20:56

Because “Young Person” has a specific legal meaning in the UK. Employers, for instance, have specific duties when it comes to employing young people.

Someone aged 18 is a young adult.

Given the potential offences that could be involved then there is a difference in being a young person or a young adult.

TokyoStories · 11/07/2023 20:56

What I don't like is the moral outrage (particularly from a newspaper which counted down to a 16 year old's birthday so pervs could leer at her) at this when teen/schoolgirl/barely legal porn is apparently fine and just fantasy.

There needs to be an inquiry off the back of this into how the media in general reports and manages incidents like this. High profile, life changing news that affects all parties.

Are there policies in place to protect the subjects of the stories (in this case the family and individual who is in the photos as well as the presenter), do they warn people what is likely to happen once they share their story?

In this case we potentially have a very vulnerable young person who is alleged to be estranged from their family who are freely sharing their personal information with the world. Is there anyone there to scoop them up?

WeAreTheHeroes · 11/07/2023 21:02

DontBeSillyBridget · 11/07/2023 16:13

NO WAY?

Oh ffs!!!!

Sounds as though this person was trying to blackmail him.

Bazpops · 11/07/2023 21:18

Well as the victim was male it’s highly likely the bbc presenter is gay, I don’t know many straight men who would drool over naked photos of boys

Talk about spectacularly missing the point.

tallcypowder · 11/07/2023 21:25

A third allegation now.

What is going on?

Coralsunset · 11/07/2023 21:35

Can you link? Or say which website/publication?

TheHairyHazelnut · 11/07/2023 21:36

Sky news has it

BishopRock · 11/07/2023 21:50

He seems to have been playing with fire.

Going round to a random someone's house for a cup of tea and telling them next time he'll stay longer.

Did he not ever consider these people would tell others they'd had Wellknown Presenter in their house?

This last revelation sounds a bit sad and desperate.

ThisTimeIts · 11/07/2023 21:55

Broke covid rules!

I wonder if they were telling us to follow the rules?

WhisperingAutistic · 11/07/2023 22:00

Well there is certainly a pattern to this behaviour.
I wonder how many more there are?
