Who do you think is the BBC presenter who has been suspended?

I don't have twitter and haven't seen any theories as to who it is, I'm presuming a man due to the figure outline being used in the press:

If it isn’t the person in question, the speculation and (potential deepfake) photo is enough to drive anyone to the brink.

If it is, we don’t know the details of the situation. This could have been a meeting via only fans or similar and a transactional relationship with age and consent being a prerequisite to appear on such sites. Bad judgement, low morals? Absolutely. A witch hut that ruins his and potentially his family’s life though? Completely unnecessary.

DontBeSillyBridget · 10/07/2023 08:08

So you can have sex with a 16 year old? But can't have a photo of a 17 year old?

Not only that, it is illegal for an under 18 to share indecent photos/selflies, even if of themselves.

A303 · 10/07/2023 08:45

@Wotsthef Bad judgment and low morals should in some cases be enough to bring a person's career to a cessation though. Particularly when that person is a figurehead or has a position of trust, or is in higher public office. Let's not through the baby out with the bathwater.

TheHairyHazelnut · 10/07/2023 08:49

The biggest question for me is always: why on earth do any of these people (men) think something like this is worth risking their families and lucrative careers for?

It's ridiculous. All the hurt and money lost for sex.

The only conclusion I ever come to is that they do not think it is any risk at all... because they and others are getting away with stuff like this all the time. It is so endemic that they see it as an entirely risk free behaviour.

Wotsthef · 10/07/2023 08:49

Losing his job would seem a predictably reasonable outcome. Being hounded and having (potentially) intimate images shared all over doesn’t seem at all justifiable.

Not only that, it is illegal for an under 18 to share indecent photos/selflies, even if of themselves.

And yet, try saying social media is harmful to our under 18s and that children under secondary school age shouldn’t have smartphones and you are jumped on by parents defending their decisions to enable that very thing. Today’s 14yo on any of the social platforms could be tomorrow’s victim of online abuse, or the extreme outcome which the parent in this case is allegedly suggesting was enabled through a platform, possibly not even an illegal online platform.

Bunionbabe · 10/07/2023 08:53

Unless I've missed something, it is clear that the presenter in question is male?

A303 · 10/07/2023 08:55

@TheHairyHazelnut I disagree. I think the risk is the attraction for some men. Many higher powered careers are built on risk. As power is built there is a subconscious mindset of invincibility, of bravado. Humans are curious animals. We like to 'grow', to ratchet up a level every so often. I think those in power have a heady mix of risk and entitlement. Mix that with a bit of addiction - another human trait we all have at least somewhere inside - and you have the perfect storm for going off the rails.

Yes.

If the photo is fake, it is concerning- it doesn't look fake. Scary future ahead with deepfake technology

Deep fake is scary. I watched several short videos of Keanu Reeves the other day before realising they were deep fake.

ConstanceWorry · 10/07/2023 09:29

We need to stop putting "famous" people on a pedestal and paying them such stupid amounts of money.

ConstanceWorry · 10/07/2023 09:31

Makes you wonder how many other "national treasures" are living double lives. Protected by the elite....

ThreeRingCircus · 10/07/2023 09:34

The photo cannot be real...... surely he would not be that stupid?

Possibly loads !

2Rebecca · 10/07/2023 09:42

I doubt the photo is real, the allegation is of requesting photo/s not sending them. If the alleged victim who is now an adult refuses to take part in investigations and it's just his mother getting upset and going to the papers I wonder if any prosecution would succeed. I'm not sure the mother's actions are really in her son's long term interests.

friendlycat · 10/07/2023 09:49

Whilst certain procedures need to be followed, I can’t realistically see how much longer it can last before the name is actually revealed as the person in question is being so widely named on social media and obviously staff at the BBC, journalists etc etc are all aware.

There are only a certain amount of presenters with the earnings relevant and very shortly indeed it’s going to become apparent to all who is not featuring on their normal BBC slot. The lid is going to blow off soon.

But I do have some sympathy for everyone involved as there’s more than just one family affected here and due process is necessary to try and evaluate whether anything illegal has taken place. There’s obviously a difference between illegal and unsavoury.

Either way the career of the person involved is obviously finished.

ConstanceWorry · 10/07/2023 09:50

The watch in the bum shot is his watch. I'm pretty sure that photo is legit.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Another man of a certain age hiding his true sexuality for a lifetime. Very sad for his elderly mother.

It's sad for the whole of his family. Wife and children. Completely caught up in his mess.

Ha, yeah, he should have come out last week so his cohosts could call him brave and heroic.
If it's a real photo, he's looking good!

BeverleyMacker · 10/07/2023 08:08

Well it'll soon be obvious who it is,if he's not reading the BBC news tonight at 10.

I was just thinking this. There'll be record number of viewers later. He hasn't yet come out and denied anything like some of the other presenters.

Curiouscarla · 10/07/2023 09:59

I'm waiting to see what Jeremy Vine says at 12. He is definitely on the war path. I really think he is going to take legal action. I wouldn't want to be those Mumsnetters. Who used his name.

BoohooWoohoo · 10/07/2023 10:00

Just seen the pic 🤮
I hope it's a deepfake.

Of course it's fake.

Why would it suddenly surface now if someone had it available to leak before? A bit coincidental that this person has been trending as the suspected BBC presenter then this photo appears a short while later.

Also, it's in a plain, cheap room with a shallow-mattressed bed with a manky blanket. The person in question would surely be in nicer surroundings, whether they're at home or in a hotel.

It's also a bit crackers to think that they'd send a pic of themselves at their BBC work desk as is claimed. That too may also be faked.

Where are you all getting this photo?
