Idaho mash

cocksstrideintheevening · 05/07/2023 18:42

Just had some for dinner. I don't make mash, CBA. Mostly cook everything else 'from scratch'.

It might be my new favourite food.

Anyone else like it?

Never heard of it!

Ostryga · 05/07/2023 18:44

Best thing ever!! I was sceptical but it’s better than my mash and so much less faff.

Also great to thicken soups/stews with!

Plunkplink · 05/07/2023 18:46

Delicious I’ve had it once but the calorie content is massive, I believe it’s an American product. Probably packed with UHPF s . It’s like crack.

Crumbcatcher · 05/07/2023 18:49

Ooh I've got one in the cupboard for emergencies but I might have to try it now!

Magenta82 · 05/07/2023 19:05

What is it?

What is it?

Like Smash but tastes like proper mash. It’s some kind of wizardry.

ApplesinmyPocket · 05/07/2023 19:11

I think it's great! Much more like real mashed potato than other types.

My only grumble is that all of the 'flavoured' types have garlic in, which we all detest, so we only have the plain but it's lovely.

ComputerInitiateJump · 05/07/2023 19:12

It's really good and usually on offer for a quid somewhere. Much better than having a pot of potatoes boiling for ages in the hot weather.

Clymene · 05/07/2023 19:13

Yum!

IDAHO® POTATOES, VEGETABLE OIL (COCONUT, SUNFLOWER), MALTODEXTRIN, SALT, SUGAR, BUTTERMILK POWDER, NONFAT DRY MILK, BUTTER (CREAM, SALT), MONOGLYCERIDES, CALCIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, NATURAL FLAVORS. FRESHNESS PRESERVED BY SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE, SODIUM BISULFITE, CITRIC ACID, AND MIXED TOCOPHEROLS.

Diplidocus4 · 05/07/2023 19:15

Great for camping etc and lovely too !

Magenta82 · 05/07/2023 19:16

I've just added some to my tesco shop, I figure the ingredients could be worse and its worth a try.

NoTeaNoShade · 05/07/2023 19:16

Idaho potatoes make the best mash!

Oh you once did this on a pasta sauce thread I started. Glad to see you’re still going!

amylou8 · 05/07/2023 19:25

The garlic one is my favorite..yummm

Moredramathanrazzamatazz · 05/07/2023 19:26

It's very nice.

Clymene · 05/07/2023 19:28

I'm happy to be consistent @Ostryga GrinGrin

I have some bread machine recipes for potato rolls and potato bread and use it in those.

When DD4 was learning to feed herself with a spoon I used to mix up a bowl for her at lunch and chop cooked veg to stir in. She loved it.

RaceToTheMiddle · 05/07/2023 19:30

This stuff is great for hiking. High calorie and hot.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 05/07/2023 19:31

We bought it at the start of lockdown when food shortages were happening and thought it might be a good emergency food if we couldn't get fresh potatoes. Omg what a revelation. Its bloody lovely. Tastes better than mash I make.

Penguinsandpuffins · 05/07/2023 19:31

I find it smells like rhubarb 🤷🏻‍♀️ Love the Sainsburys one though 😋

MaMisled · 05/07/2023 19:32

I tried it in December and wanted to evangelise so the whole family got a packet in their Christmas gifts! Incredible stuff!

LiveByTheRiver · 05/07/2023 19:35

Love it. Saw flavours you can't get here in San Francisco when I was there and brought quite a few packets home with me

Gong, no wonder it tastes so good! I bought several packets for a quid each when my DH gave me some and I thought it was made from scratch.

Cherrysoup · 05/07/2023 19:42

Gong? Omg!

Rummikub · 05/07/2023 19:49

Hmm I’ve seen this but never bought it. Tempted now.

Do you just add boiling water?

I used to love eating dried Smash as a child.
