Idaho mash

Just had some for dinner. I don't make mash, CBA. Mostly cook everything else 'from scratch'.

It might be my new favourite food.

Anyone else like it?

Yum!

IDAHO® POTATOES, VEGETABLE OIL (COCONUT, SUNFLOWER), MALTODEXTRIN, SALT, SUGAR, BUTTERMILK POWDER, NONFAT DRY MILK, BUTTER (CREAM, SALT), MONOGLYCERIDES, CALCIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, NATURAL FLAVORS. FRESHNESS PRESERVED BY SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE, SODIUM BISULFITE, CITRIC ACID, AND MIXED TOCOPHEROLS.

Hats off to the manufacturers for trademarking the state of Idaho for instant mash purposes.

Not since I discovered frozen mash.....

cocksstrideintheevening · 05/07/2023 20:12

It's way better than frozen mash!

Not something we'd eat every week but it is brilliant!

We probably glow in the dark for a fortnight but I don't seem to be able to keep potatoes these days.

Had some cheesy mash tonight, finishing off our veg sausages out of the freezer before our hols.

Idahoan SiL sent me some pics of saute potato offerings they do in the US.

rigamortiz · 05/07/2023 20:23

I was always snobby about people who use smash but I had some Idaho mash at a friends house and now it's a store cupboard staple for me.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/07/2023 20:26

That's it, I'm going to buy some tomorrow.

Butteredtoast55 · 05/07/2023 20:43

I'm so suggestible that I now definitely want some!

Beaverbridge · 05/07/2023 20:48

It's amazing. Could go some now.

Frequency · 05/07/2023 20:50

I quite often have the cheddar one with gravy for my supper when I'm on nights and want something hot and carby to keep me going.

LightlySearedontheRealityGrill · 05/07/2023 20:57

I had some tonight, mashed in a leftover roasted sweet potato from last night and some butter, had it with gammon was lovely.

HauntedPencil · 05/07/2023 21:07

I've seen this and been curious - will give it a whirl. Haven't had anything like it since Smash which was a bit dubious

Scotsgirl001 · 05/07/2023 21:15

Love it! Discovered it in Florida on holiday a few years ago, delighted when realised you get it here too. The cheesy one is fine.

CatchHimDerry · 05/07/2023 21:24

Might have to try this

PinkBuffalo · 05/07/2023 21:26

Yes it is the best and if I have mash I use Idaho smash

ilovepixie · 05/07/2023 21:39

Is it really too hard to peel a few spuds! Nothing beats a real potato with proper butter and a pinch of salt!

It is when I get home at 7 and need to feed the kids!

DP likes this one but I hate it and much prefer sainsburys own brand instant mash.

CMOTDibbler · 05/07/2023 21:59

DS loves it as a quick snack, but I am a convert after tasting it as it is by some magic very good. A fast and dirty fave dinner here is frozen yorkies, precooked sausages warmed up in the microwave, peas, gravy and Idohoan mash. Done in 5 minutes if you do the yorkies in the air fryer but feels like a full on dinner

ThePuma · 07/07/2023 10:10

Tried it last night based on the rave reviews in here. The unanimous response was “do not feed me that stuff again”!

Did you stir it too much as it will go gloopy. The trick is to pour it into the boiling water, quickly swoosh it with a fork so it's all covered then completely leave it alone for a couple of minutes. I do it in a saucepan and pop a lid on to keep it warm.

If you did all that and still hated it - nevermind!

ThePuma · 07/07/2023 10:43

Yeah I may have done - thanks.

I bought 2 packs so I’ll try that with the second one.

meddysam · 07/07/2023 10:44

This is such an atypical MNs thread. Posters raving about a carby processed food! 😆

meddysam · 07/07/2023 10:45

I'm going to try, I'm quite partial to Sainsbury's frozen mash which I add milk & butter too.

AreThereSomewhereIslands · 07/07/2023 11:35

Another Idahoan mash evangelist here - the herby flavour one is divine!

The very best thing about Idahoan, from my point of view, is that a single packet makes exactly enough mash for three people. We're a household of three adults and we always seem to end up with half a packet of this or a quarter of a bottle of that left over from mealtime products that are designed for either two or four people.

Rummikub · 08/07/2023 00:48

I have bought the cheesy mash Idahoan mash. Now if I can get hold of Bonne Cuisine maderia wine gravy sachet then that’s my life sorted!
