Camwy. - it's a river in Patagonia. Really suited him though (Welsh ..... extremely Welsh man in his 50's).

Probably not so weird now but Rayne - male, my age (early 40s) I knew him when we were in our late teens.

I heard someone in a supermarket shouting 'Movida! Movida!'... thought they were having some sort of revelation in the hair dye section but they were not, it was their child - circa 1990.

Actual kids now... Magnus, Santino, Aveline, Jorja (the last one really makes my teeth itch for some reason).

Oddest... Random. Probably easier for him now he is an adult... I imagine he struggled as a kid/teen (I only knew him as a toddler).

I met some twins named Caesar and Kaiser...Caeser I have heard before and think it's quite a nice name. I can only assume Kaiser will go by Kai when he's older!!

I went to school in the late 60s with a Livingstone Jones and an Orlando Bartholemew. My mum (Welsh) was named Marsley but as far as I know it’s not a typical welsh name. My kids have kinda unusual names too. I don’t sadly.

ConkerDreams · 04/07/2023 06:04

My mum’s friend’s daughter and son in law called their baby girl Providence and the grandparents on the other side were so horrified, they refused to talk to them!

I worked with someone called Strawberry. Not very easy to shorten - unless you go for Berry…

NotQuiteUsual · 04/07/2023 06:09

Coral for a girl. Apparently the older generation love it and it was common amongst their parents.

You know there's a Welsh population in Argentina and I actually think its in paragonia

That is correct. The river was called Afon Camwy. Which means winding river.

The half a dozen or so River Avons in the U.K. are all derived from the Welsh name for River - afon.

I can imagine ‘Anointing Shalom’ was a bit of a mouthful in the classroom.

exLtEveDallas · 04/07/2023 06:18

Aubla (g)
Abrum (b)
Destin (b)
Sparrow (b)

Also heard years ago of 2 children called Boy and Babygirl. They had a very sad childhood and their names were changed.

I have a relative whose 3 names are all straight out of Tolkien. Lovely, but bloody hell, took a while to learn how to spell them!

The headteacher of the boys' grammar school in the town I grew up in had a daughter called Dorcus. The boys were not kind about it.
