same plane was in Berlin in April.

Genuine question from someone who knows nothing about these types of things.

If a plane is in the sky without permission/approval, does it show up on Flightradar? Ie is it the radar that picks them up and then they are shown. Or is it an illustration of all the planes that have told 'the authorities' they're flying?

What happens if someone just takes off and tells no-one? I think this is where the military come in?

So while the OP seems to be suggesting that either this plane is Putin going over to duff up the Yanks, or to say 'you know what, I CBA with this any more, I'm going to live out my days on a beach in Borneo', what's really going on here?

BarbaraofSeville · 27/06/2023 10:55

I now see there are a few Eurofighter Typhoons hanging around over the North Sea.

Is this where we're supposed to start adding up 2 + 2 =5?

I can spot about 7 currently round the north east coast / North Sea 🥸

Iliketulips · 27/06/2023 11:04

Either way, I can't see if any more

They've turned the transponder off so it can't be on flight radar anymore.

Harping · 27/06/2023 11:05

The history shows the plane route stopping mid North Sea ?

No, it went from Moscow, direct north then over Norway towards Greenland.

NotDavidTennant · 27/06/2023 11:08

Russia has an embassy in Washington so I'm not sure how remarkable it would be for a Russian plane to be flying there.

I didn't suggest anything , I'm just curious if anyone knows what it is doing.

It seems to have disappeared off FR24 now. Wonder if they have switched off transponder or it's in a low coverage area ?

YesItsMeIDontCare · 27/06/2023 11:09

It's still on there in blue. Tracked by satellite.

heartofglass23 · 27/06/2023 11:12

I can see 6 RAF planes flying about the North Sea atm.

It's unlikely to be putin himself going over

We are speculating

Haven't they been asked to leave?

LaBefana · 27/06/2023 11:28

Air forces, including the RAF, don't keep their planes on the ground and only send them up when there's something troublesome happening. The pilots, ground crews, traffic controllers, radar operators, computer systems people, etc, all have to train, practice, and keep their competences current.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/06/2023 11:31

Ooh I'm only a flight radar person when my children are flying somewhere but this is interesting. I can see 4 RAF fighters near Skegness.

No. You can see their website here.
