FR says that Psycho12's origin is Brekstad (OLA) i.e Ørland Main Air Station, apparently important not only for Norway, but also for NATO.

Yep, Orland's another biggie these days.

TBH any of the Norwegian bases are important, have been for years, especially the more Northern ones..

For example the first NATO pilots usually to get eyes on Soviet/Russian long range aircraft such as Bears coming out of the bases on the Kola peninsula and heading into the Atlantic for training would be the Norwegian fighter pilots flying out of places like Bodo...

Wow, long flight! Are Russian plains not allowed over certain air space now? Sorry I'm clueless

Haven't got the full list of countries whose sovereign airspace they cannot enter but it's currently a very long one.

They can’t fly over European airspace so had to go over the top of the Scandi countries. As Greenland is a Danish territory I’m guessing that’s why they had to duck down below Iceland to avoid Danish airspace there too.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/06/2023 19:18

Looks like it's landed and some distance away from all the other planes.

stbrandonsboat · 27/06/2023 19:24

Let's hope they don't feel the need to share any hot beverages with the Americans 😬

They also didn't enter Canadian sovereign airspace either, reason being from Feb last year:

"The Government of Canada is prohibiting the operation of Russian-owned, chartered or operated aircraft in Canadian airspace, including in the airspace above Canada’s territorial waters."

That's why rather than simply skirting Greenland and then going pretty much direct to Washington they then had to mess around avoiding Canada by heading very much more southerly than ideal, ducking under all the high level the civilian traffic westbound from Europe and then climb and make the right turn to pretty much head almost due west towards the New York area.

I'd guess at that point the diplomatic agreements mean the US would have to allow overflight and landing.

Shhh I think it's meant to be secret

ErrolTheDragon · 27/06/2023 19:38

Ah... evidently it's for transporting diplomats, which makes sense.
