There's an RAF Eurofighter over the Cromarty Firth which appears to be shadowing another that's "privately owned" but it might just be from another EUAir Force.

Can't see that ATM but in that context "privately owned" is often used for aircraft that are operated by companies such as Draken to act as targets for things like practice interceptions.

@notimagain

Yes, I posted on here and when I clicked back on FR24 and they'd disappeared. They were heading NW across Sutherland when I last saw them.

I’ve found this on Flightradar24, but there’s another plane near it that seems to be red (which I think is an emergency?) - AFR079

It's diverted to Reykjavik for some reason is my guess, as it's descending pretty rapidly and has turned off course.

Interestingly, there's a US naval plane circling near Reykjavic too.

It's currently the most watched flight (the Russian one is 2nd) on Flightradar24

Interestingly, there's a US naval plane circling near Reykjavic too.

For decades there's pretty much always been a sizeable US military aviation presence , especially US Navy Aviation, at Keflavik so that in itself isn't unusual or significant.

Looks to me like the Air France plane is heading for Keflavik not Reykjavik.

Piscesmumma1978 · 27/06/2023 13:26

Where is the Russian plane now? I've lost it

Chersfrozenface · 27/06/2023 13:26

Ignore me - God, my eyesight's getting bad.

That would make sense - KEF is the big international airport, long runways etc.. it's about the only sensible diversion airport in that part of the world.

Fourecks · 27/06/2023 13:28

The Air France plane seems to have landed.

CaramelicedLatte · 27/06/2023 13:31

Sorry, I did mean KEF, but in my defence, it says Reykjavic KEF on FR24 Grin

Glad to see it safely landed.

LorraineInSpain · 27/06/2023 13:35

Medical emergency on that one according to Twitter.

Bohomie · 27/06/2023 13:36

I had a US navy one fly over here today

Nope. looks to me as ifyou were right first time...It's gone into one of the previously aforementioned gaps in coverage somebody was boring on about 🤐

Track went predictive a while back, (not logged on via satellite.)

If you looked at the Data source info for the flight at that point it stated:

"Data source - US/Canada radar

3rd party data covering North America and certain oceanic regions around North America, aggregated from different data sources. Provided to Flightradar24 as is with variable quality based on multiple factors."

i.e. "there's not a lot/any coverage and any that is is poor"....now FR has dumped the flight..

It'll probably reappear off either southern Greenland if it tracks close enough or when it approaches the Canadian coast.

I'm afraid that's very very often the reason..they can be horrible days at the office for some involved..

As a result I've never been a fan of treating 7700s as a bit of a spectator sport...

FlightRadar is full of wonderful things, this is a Gazelle helicopter.

Someone collapsed in the aisle of our easyJet flight back from France on Sunday. It wasn't fun. They were OK eventually, thankfully.

Chersfrozenface · 27/06/2023 15:39

And RSD898 is back on the map. As suggested above, picked up off the coast of Canada, judging by its blue track.

notimagain · 27/06/2023 15:59

Tracking has not been helped by the fact it's down at 24000 feet which reduces the range at which the transponder signal can be received by kit on the surface.

Not sure why it's that low..might be purely that it's not equipped with all the knobs and bells needed to fly the Atlantic on one of the organised routes so it has had to stay below that airspace block... might also be I supposed some restrictions on airspace due to sanctions but that's really a guess on my part.

notimagain · 27/06/2023 16:16

FWIW it's just turned onto a more direct course for Washington and has ^ 34,000 (Flight Level 340) so looks like having got south of the civilian main oceanic traffic routes ATC has OK'd a more sensible level.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/06/2023 16:35

We have a couple of 'Psycho' 😄Typhoons at the very north of Norway, what they doing up there?

I think there's a lot of toing and froing between NATO airbases, even after (checks notes) exercises Arctic Challenge and Air Defender 23 finished recently.

Norway does have a border with Russia.

notimagain · 27/06/2023 16:51

Looks like they are not a million miles away from Bardufoss and back in the day the RAF used to do forward operations base training/ops out of there (and FWIW at times Bodo), so might it might just be some joint work with the Norwegian Air Force..

Chersfrozenface · 27/06/2023 16:57

FR says that Psycho12's origin is Brekstad (OLA) i.e Ørland Main Air Station, apparently important not only for Norway, but also for NATO.
