DuncinToffee · 26/06/2023 14:10

In the voice of Cpl Jones.

"Don't panic Capt Sunak"

"Hold your nerve"

"They don't like it up em".

We have a choice between extremely bad alternative outcomes

Lord Deben is one of those Tories who has improved with age. As John Gummer he was the stupid face of the BSE scandal, but he's redeemed himself quite a lot.

itsgettingweird · 02/07/2023 12:55

The latest post on Bravermans FB page where she's copied her home office page is very interesting. Definitely seeing a ride turn from Tory voters.

You've many who are very much against stopping the boats but realise this isn't the way and they are failing to implement a workable way. They have recognised this wasn't a one way plan and one even called it a scam!

Lots of references to QT.

Then you have the crazy troll who likes to pop up frequently and actually does Bravermans cause no good despite thinking she's her biggest fan 🤦‍♀️🤣

When you read past the extreme posts it's a very interesting read and I think shows you what the true will of the people is and where feeling in this country generally lies. It isn't necessarily with Labour. But it's certainly generally against the Tory's iyswim?

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/07/2023 16:37

I’m hoping for the low prediction for the Tories. Although anything under 50 would be hilarious.

tobee · 02/07/2023 21:41

I think that story tells you absolutely everything you need to know about the PM, the government, the wider Tory party and their potential voters.

Its been a good month for the Tories.

https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/prediction_main.html

Ouch.

You just know that Boris Johnson will be telling himself (and Mogg, Dorries et al nodding doggies) that this is because he's no longer at the helm.

Also, weirdly, I expect Liz Truss will be doing similar.

The Chris Pincher report is due soon as well, could trigger another by-election

Many more and Sunak might as well bite the bullet and call a GE rather than suffer death by 300 and odd cuts.

165000 vacancies for adult social care. Its on the shortage occupation list.
And yet -

"A gang of Tory MPs is trying to force Rishi Sunak to stop foreign staff taking jobs in care homes - despite a huge number of vacancies.
The New Conservatives Group on Monday will demand the struggling PM adopt their extreme plan for immigration."

I just don't understand their thought processes at all.

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2023 23:27

The New Conservatives Group? Lee Anderson should stick to feeding people baked beans and cat food on gbeebies.

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 02/07/2023 23:32

Yes another group for Sunak to fend off.
They seem to be falling apart from within.

tobee · 02/07/2023 23:44

Anyone got a link to who the 25 are? I can't see them named in that Mirror article or on the Sky News app. (The fact that are tons of ads jumping around on the pages doesn't help)

Notonthestairs · 02/07/2023 23:50

Looks like a Red Wall Group - usual candidates.

Those already involved include Conservative Party deputy chairman Lee Anderson, former minister Jonathan Gullis, Rother Valley MP Alex Stafford, Don Valley MP Nick Fletcher and Wrexham MP Sarah Atherton – all elected in 2019.

The New Conservatives has no official leader, but Penistone and Stocksbridge MP Miriam Cates and Devizes MP Danny Kruger – also 2019ers – are said to be the principal organisers behind the new initiative.

The group has reportedly been holding top-secret meetings on Monday evenings for weeks in advance of the launch, with numbers kept deliberately tight to avoid plans for its formation leaking to the press.
Members told i that the cloak-and-dagger approach was to avoid “unhelpful” reports appearing in the press amid fears the assembly would be seen as an attempted coup against Rishi Sunak.

They seem to be against legal migration.
Not sure how that squares with Downing Street aims.

DuncinToffee · 02/07/2023 23:57

Such a lovely bunch Hmm Is the Nat C group not rightwing enough for them.

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/07/2023 00:15

Anderson, Gullis, Fletcher, Cates and Kruger? That’s a bunch of quality MPs right there. Not sure about Stafford, but can take a guess based on the company he seems to be keeping.

newnamethanks · 03/07/2023 07:32

What a collection. How far have we fallen that they're parading themselves and their vile beliefs as if they're not things to be ashamed of? A selection of the utter dregs of what was the Conservative Party. Revolting people.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2023 07:52

I guess they think it is a vote winner.

But it makes little practical sense to me. Low unemployment. Vast numbers of vacancies in the sector. Vulnerable adults be they disabled or elderly. Most families need both parents earning because of high housing costs. Beds in hospitals needed to provide social care rather than medical treatment.
Why wouldn't you want to recruit more people willing do the job?

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/07/2023 08:11

Allegedly it’s going to raise wages to the point that it incentivises the job market. You’d think that with the number of vacancies there already are that if it was going to do that it would already have happened.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2023 08:25

I think it would just lead to people going without care or even shorter appointments.
But it also runs directly contrary to Sunak's policy so regardless of whether they are pretending it's not intended to damage Sunak it will.
A case of protecting their own jobs - flogging rubbish to voters - rather than the PM and a clear sign, if it were needed, of the lack of internal discipline.

As a party they look pretty impossible to steer.

What I don't understand is why these same people who want less immigration have not been campaigning for higher wages for nurses. Surely if their argument is that immigration drives down wages, wages need to rise?

RafaistheKingofClay · 03/07/2023 08:41

But you can’t increase wages if you want a high wage economy because inflation. People will just have to starve instead.

I thought wage rises were the cause of our inflation issues?

Nobody question the role of privatised utility profits.

Those are the wrong kind of wage rises, what we are campaigning for is the right kind of wage rises.

Notonthestairs · 03/07/2023 09:01

Social carers pay rise will comes from either local authorities and nobody cares about how they balance their budgets whilst central government reduce their budgets and add responsibilities.

Or from the magic pot of money everyone thinks they'll have by the time they need care.

I'm in favour of the pay rises but this isn't the way to go about it. Start funding LA's better and make the job attractive enough to recruit and retain.
Don't build in another 100,000 job vacancies to care for the vulnerable.

I wonder what the private health/social care Tory donors are muttering to No 10.
