What size shoe is your Year 5 DC?

Mine (10 year old boy) seems to have very small feet. He's a 13.

Everyone else I speak to - which granted isn't that many as it's a weird question to ask - have children with much bigger feet.

Just wanted a quick straw poll.

My Yr 5 DS takes a UK 7.5. I wear a 4.5/5. He's extremely tall for his age.I give it till the end of the summer till he's taller than me.

Belfastbird · 26/06/2023 13:39

My yr6 DD is in 12.5 but she is proper diddy & shortest on the yr by a long shot (would prob be shortest in yr 5 too)

SugarPlumpFairy3 · 26/06/2023 13:39

My twins are both a 4.5.

End of year 4 DS, size 4. End of year 6 DD size 2

unlikelychump · 26/06/2023 13:41

Small dd is 1.
7yo Ds is 13.

I don't think you need to worry though.

MissDollyMix · 26/06/2023 13:48

They come in all shapes and sizes! Is your DS definitely still a 13? Have you had his feet measured recently? DD is in year 5, average height (although I think she will end up quite a small adult just owing to genetics) - she's currently a size 1.5. I know a few girls in her class are about a 1. When my DS was in year 5 I think he was about a 1? Hard to remember, especially as it was lockdown days and very little shoe wearing or foot measuring was going on! He was the smallest in his class and one of the youngest - his dad is a size 6 as an adult so I expect he will have smaller feet than average. I think his first shoes at secondary school (so just after his 11th birthday) were a size 1.5 or 2. DH usually wears kids shoes as it's hard to buy mens shoes in a 6. Saves a fortune!

ImasuckerforaTwirl · 26/06/2023 13:53

My year 5 DS is a 1. His friends are all similar. 13 is only a size smaller, so I think your DS would be about average in my son's class.

Maztek · 26/06/2023 13:56

My daughter is year 5 and has only just gone into a 13. She’s is very small though.

LittleLegsKeepGoing · 26/06/2023 13:57

My DD in yr 5 has size 6 (adult) feet - she's costing me a fortune in football boots etc. Not particularly tall either to be honest.

My eldest daughter on the other hand was only size 1 going into secondary school. I'd be happy that your DS is firmly still in the children's shoe category. It's much cheaper!

whatistheproblem · 26/06/2023 13:58

Yr 5 DD is just coming out of a size 13. I wouldn’t worry just enjoy the fact they will be in kids sizes for longer!

JadziaSnax · 26/06/2023 13:58

DD is 10 and she's in size 5.

FatGirlSwim · 26/06/2023 13:59

My y3 dd is size 2.

In y5, my children were:

size 5 (dd)
size 6 (ds)
size 8 (dd - she never grew any bigger)

FatGirlSwim · 26/06/2023 14:00

My dd’s friend started y7 in a size 13! But she was extremely petite

Rollercoaster1920 · 26/06/2023 14:00

Seems smaller than average. But look on the positive side: shoes will be cheaper for longer! Adult shoe sizes cost more.

Crunchymum · 26/06/2023 15:08

I am a size 4, in my 40's and still buy kids shoes but I hope his feet grow a bit bigger than mine (Dad is size 9 so not particularly small footed)

What height are both of you?

Sartre · 26/06/2023 15:13

That is really tiny, my DD was a size 13 in year 1. She’s year 6 now and a size 6 but she was a size 5 last year.

instantpotnoodle · 26/06/2023 15:16

My almost 7 year old is a size 13. He’s about 75th c for height.

ElsaMars · 26/06/2023 15:46

My Y5 DD is a 4/5 adult size so we can now share shoes (takes after DH who is a size 12)

redskytwonight · 26/06/2023 15:48

DD was a size 4.5 when she was in Year 5.

She's still a size 4.5 in Year 12.

I'm not sure what this straw poll will tell you, OP :)

sanityisamyth · 26/06/2023 15:51

DS9.5 is a size 5. He's very tall for his age though.

InMySpareTime · 26/06/2023 15:54

DS started secondary in size 13 shoes, I'm amazed that 5YOs are that shoe size now!
When he was 5 he was in a size 6 shoe (it was not easy to find a school shoe that small).
There is huge variation across cohorts in size between ages 10ish and 15ish, depending when puberty hits each of them.
At times there was over 18in height difference between the tallest and shortest in DS's year. It all evens out by about Y11.

RudsyFarmer · 26/06/2023 15:55

My 10 year old son is huge, height and feet. Size 7 🤦🏻‍♀️

What height is your son now?

lucylousweetie · 26/06/2023 15:56

It doesn’t all “even out in year “

you Only need to see 16 year old boys walking from school to see the huge variety in height and build
