Missing Titan Sub! Thread 3

Badabingbadaboomm · 21/06/2023 19:00

OP of the last thread has said she has to pop out so making this one as we’re almost full on the 2nd thread.

I cannot stop thinking about these poor men.

The French ROV, Victor 6000, I posted about earlier should be there now, but I can't see any new updates.

Re Paradoxical undressing - I experienced this when I once had very mild hypothermia. It was the weirdest feeling. I'd been for a swim.in Winter, was in for too long, and when I got out I was boiling. Everyone I was with was grabbing their towels and dryrobes and I was wandering along the riverbank in just my swimming costume, despite the air temperature being low. I felt really warm. Some one had to grab me and make me get dried and dressed. I really didn't want to.

Wishing the search teams well in their efforts today.

Having read again about what happened to the Kursk, it was notable that its explosions were picked up by several seismographs in northern Norway (and perhaps further afield too, I don’t know). Had the Titan suffered a catastrophic implosion, it would seem surprising if no trace of the event had been recorded by seismographic stations and/or by routine military undersea sound monitoring. I don’t suppose we would be told about the feeds coming from the latter, but the location is sufficiently close to US waters that you’d think they’re probably routinely listening there. I wonder.

I wonder. the titan sub which is only a submersible the size of a mini van is hardly comparable to a Nuclear submarine.

The explosions detected from the Kursk were down to the fact that a nuclear warhead exploded.

If this sub had imploded what that means is that it will have become overcome by pressure and simply crushed.

It’s not remotely comparable, and highly unlikely to be picked up by seismic detection.

The torpedoes that exploded on the Kursk did not have nuclear warheads.

HonorHiding · 22/06/2023 05:35

@MayThe4th Of course it’s not the same as the Kursk, either in terms of scale or the likely nature of the event. But an implosion will cause a shock wave, and a shock wave can be detected by suitable equipment - as happened accidentally in the Mariana Trench in 2014. Is it really so absurd to think detection by one of the various means of routine monitoring would have been possible in the case of a Titan implosion?

MayThe4th · 22/06/2023 05:39

They were warheads though. Nuclear or not, they contained explosives.

The titan does not.

It’s the difference between a bbq gas cylinder exploding and someone crushing an empty coke can. You would probably hear the bbq gas go a few streets away. You’d only hear someone crushing the coke can if you were standing next to them.

There is literally no comparison here.

Apologies @ForestLilac I didn't see your earlier post!

How bizarre is this:

"Wendy Rush is the wife of Stockton Rush, the OceanGate boss who is on the missing submersible.

She is also the great-great-granddaughter of Isidor and Ida Straus - two first-class passengers who were onboard the Titanic when it sank in 1912."

Not that bizarre, it's generational money.

Joining the thread after catching up on yesterdays. Last day. Praying for a miracle. Is there a delay in news coverage given they’re in the middle of the ocean?

Willmafrockfit · 22/06/2023 06:12

woke up having a nightmare about the sea!

Peanutbutteryday · 22/06/2023 06:22

Discussed this with my husband last night as we both have very boring regulatory jobs. This has made it so apparent just how important third party reviews and regulations are. Otherwise humans end up as a bunch of arrogant cowboys ignoring key risks because they think they know best. It’s made me so angry that the ceo took people down in this shoddy sub.

i know they signed the death waiver, but do you think the ceo went through all the risks in detail, as well as the corners he cut to allow the passengers to make an informed decision? I doubt it.

Id never get on the sub, but I am a nervous flyer and I regularly get on planes without asking the pilot whether he’s completed all his safety checks before taking off. I always assume that he’s in charge and qualified and responsible for the checks and therefore has done what he needed to do. I wonder if the passengers just trusted the ceo in the same way I trust easyJet’s pilots? I know it’s slightly different as planes fly all the time and are relatively safe, but it’s the closest example in my day to day life.

There’s likely nothing to tell.

They only have just over three hours left now, it’s likely the next update will be that there is no hope of finding them alive.

I don’t know at what stage the search will be called off, but it’s already being referred to as a “recovery” so I think it’s obvious that they know there is no hope of them being alive even if by some miracle they’re able to find the sub.

Willmafrockfit · 22/06/2023 06:23

6 hours now surely?

I’ve been feeling very anxious the last couple of days and it’s definitly this. I can’t stop thinking about it.

Agree, not particularly bizarre. People from these sorts of wealthy backgrounds are likely to find themselves amongst other wealthy or wealth aspiring folk, who do "intrepid" things.

Probably adds to the provenance of the tour company's story.

Willmafrockfit · 22/06/2023 06:23

6 hours now surely?

Bbc said yesterday that they had enough oxygen until around 10 AM bst. So that’s about 3.5 hours from now.

StayLiquid · 22/06/2023 06:26

I meant bizarre as in the connection. Maybe that was the wrong word.

I've woken up the last couple of days feeling very unsettled ! Odd feeling

MayThe4th · 22/06/2023 06:28

And that’s assuming there actually was 90 hours of oxygen on board. Given nothing else appeared to have been done properly, it’s entirely possible, likely even, that the oxygen was nothing like what we’ve been told.

It’s already suggested that there are only approx 40 hours of oxygen and that to reach any more the scuba tanks underneath the device would need to be activated. So if they were incapacitated it’s possible the oxygen ran out days ago.

StayLiquid · 22/06/2023 06:26

No, I think it's fairly likely to be honest that someone with a connection to the titanic would be involved in or establish related ventures, if they have the means to do so.

wheresmymojo · 22/06/2023 06:30

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/06/2023 00:40

So when they say oxygen may run out at 11am tomorrow, is that local time? (i.e time in Canada) so actually 2.30pm here in the UK?

The latest I saw was 12.08pm UK time assuming they had the full 96 hours.

As per other posts though the hypothermia is the bigger problem.
